At least two Israeli fighter pilots have deliberately missed civilian targets in Lebanon as disquiet grows in the military about flawed intelligence, The Observer has learnt. Sources say the pilots were worried that targets had been wrongly identified as Hizbollah facilities.

Kind of sounds like the U.S. about 4 years ago. Wonder why that is, Israel is heading for a rapid governmental decline.

The difference will be the head of their military will get fired, unlike ours.

I wonder how the different military rules work in different countries. I don't know for sure, but in the U.S. military an "order is an order" and must be followed no matter what, but it looks as though the IDF troops (at least their pilots) are allowed to speculate about the validity of their orders. I'm not making any criticism, in fact it's rather heartening to think the Israeli pilots refused to target civilians on purpose.

as evidenced by Reuters photos?

www.ynetnews.com

Another photo docotred to make Israel look worse...

You'll excuse me if I begin to question the motives of the press after a second incident.

I was under the impression that soldiers are not allowed to follow orders that are illegal or violate treaties, hence the convictions after My Lai and Abu Grab. If a soldier knew a target was strictly civilian, I think they would suffer no consequences for ignoring that order. But I'm not in the military, so I could be wrong.

Have any Hezbollahs refuse to fire rockets because they might hit something other than civilians?

Big difference between soldiers and terrorists. One group is supposed to follow the rules of war; the other follows no rules at all.

But some might say Hezbollah is an army, so who knows.

Why the devil would anyone want to put troops in between these two groups of lunatics?

We need to just stand on the sideline and pass out whiskey and straight razors and let them get all they want of each other.

A great deal of our problem in the middle east comes from our never ending, knee jerk, one sided support of Israel, not to mention our 3 1/2 billion in military support a year.

American made tanks against kids throwing rocks?

With both sides thinking Gawd is blessing then.

Disgusting!

"A great deal of our problem in the middle east comes from our never ending, knee jerk, one sided support of Israel,"

YEAH! But it sure is profitable. Compassionate Christian conservatives in action --- again.

Wasn't it nicville who asked why you don't get in on it, (I am not sure as these extremist all look alike to me)?

This isn't exactly a one sided affair. Their have been numerous knee jerk reactionary attacks against Israel and other nations since the late 50's carried out by Islamic terrorists. There was even a Swiss airliner that was bombed, and what the hell have they ever done to anyone.

Both sides have overreacted and brought horrible casualties and death to the other. Nothing's changed much in the past 50-60 plus years.

And those that have tried to bring peace, Israeli and Middle Eastern alike, have a nasty habit of ending up dead like Sadat.

At least these pilots had some sense not to further the agression if they acted as the article contends.

the problem is the do gooders need to stay out of it and the winner wins and the loser loses then you can have peace.

Ah, another well-planned military campaign by the world's greatest "Conservative minds".

Between Iraq and Lebanon, the price of flowers and chocolates is about to skyrocket. I'm investing in M&M futures.

You won't even see one seconds worth of coverage on the BBC over the fired Reuters freelancer. We all know what a bunch of bedwtters MOST of the media are. I read and watch just to see the stupidity.

CC...AMERICAN piolts are held by the SAME standard....they have to ID the TARGET before DROPPING their BOMBS

also grunts on the ground have to identify thier targets. We have and will continue to lose people because we arent sure who were firing at.Often times under enemy fire our soldiers wait and have to call for permission to shoot. Of course the media only glorifies the extremely isolated mistakes that are inherent to combat.

PEOPLE...its called....RULES OF ENGAGEMENT...the UNTIED STATES has ROE

Hey Marine73 AKA Cmbell73, you're on suspension. Why don't you take it like a man, rather than switching handles? What a wuss!

Marine73- Some(a lot actually) on this vile site think our boys are cold blooded killers, like thier hero Murtha says.ROE are even more stricter now with the haditha bullshit . Makes things more dangerous on the ground when you gotta worry about getting court martialed for doing your job, bad for morale.

CONTROLL...when i talk to my fellow DEVILDOGS....they say they will do what ever it takes to come home ALIVE... OLD saying JUDGE by 12 that CARRIED by 6... they DO HATE the ROEs.... and SOME of the OFFICERs appointed to their UNITS

"Person who doesn't even work for a company not given any more work. Film at 11."

Yeah, what a potentially earth-shaking story they are missing out on.

Yeah, when you fight Bush's illegal war, the shit rolls downhill. Can't let George Dubai to get icky stuff on his hands.

Juscumguy-you know as much about war as you do about accurate self appraisal. zero. fuck off.

CAMPBELL73

So that's where you've been. Glad to see you're back. Missed debating with you.

Marine-I have had run ins with some shitbag officers, and ncos for that matter. My last unit we had great leadership, but still had to get clearance of fires for an obvious threat at times.Thats the way it goes sometimes. I have said that on this site a few times also, "rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6"

its FUNNY....people COMPLAIN that our PRESIDENT is HITLER....then they say that our TROOPS that FIGHT the WAR are the SS DIVISION of the REPUB PARTY....then say SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

CONTROLL....i am so PROUD of the HARD work our TROOPS do on a DAILY basis....i would NEVER call them SS TROOPS....but i guess if you have NEVER been in the MILITARY or NEVER been in COMBAT.... its EASY to CRITIZE our TROOPS....CALL them ALL sorts of NAMES to make a POLITICAL STATEMENT.....i HEAR that ALL the time on this SITE....MAINLY from people like JSG

CC...THANK YOU for your posts on SUNDAYS

MARINE73

CC...THANK YOU for your posts on SUNDAYS.

A little recognition for them is the very least I can do for our military men who lost their lives.
