WASHINGTON (Hollywood Reporter) - In its continuing crackdown on on-air profanity, the FCC has requested numerous tapes from broadcasters that might include vulgar remarks from unruly spectators, coaches and athletes at live sporting events, industry sources said.

The CONS plan on getting into your personal and professional life. They plan on controlling how you use you credit card on the net...

They want into your bedrooms and they stay out of the boardrooms...

They want back doors built into every website so they can get in withhout warrant or notice.

Once they are able to outlaw abortion and embryonic stem cell research, they will be back trying to back your use of condums. Then homosexuality will be outlawed, and when they achieve that god help adulterers and those who have sex out of wedlock...

It's time to stop abusive government before they come for us...WE are the government and it's time to stop these abuses.

This is getting totally out of hand. Exactly who do they think they're protecting?

I mean, any 10 year old who plays softball or soccer has already heard every profane word there ever was, and I don't mean from his teamates, but rather from where the parents are sitting. When we have situations like that in our society, why are we wasting taxpayer's money worrying about what Joe 6-pack might overhear while watching NASCAR or the NFL? Next thing you know, there'll be tattoo checks before NBA games.

OCU

god help adulterers and those who have sex out of wedlock...

Not to worry, the Gopiggies still enjoy adultery and fornication. Although they may say only illicit sex in congressional offices is permitted.

It appears as if the FCC is working to end free over the air television and radio.

They are applying the rules in an uneven and capricious way. They fined a radio station for saying the same thing Oprah had said on her show, however Oprah was not fined.

Spanish language TV and radio stations have received very few fines, even though their programming is going beyond what the English speaking station's are doing.

There needs to be clearly defined guidlines as to what is indecent, and what is not.

Who's going to decide that?
Pat Robertson? Larry Flint? Niceville?
It seems there will be as many opinions as there are assholes.

What I still do not understand is this continuous need, by some, to protect the rest of us from ourselves.

Repent sinners!!

The FCC is deciding what is indecent, and their doing it one way for one broadcast, and another way for a different broadcast.

They require TV broadcasters to encode V-Chip data into the programming, so that TV's can block programs not suitable for some viewers, however, that still isn't enough.

Free over the air television is in a position in which it cannot compete. Cable and satellite television will be the future, and that future will probably be February 17, 2009.

This seems right on track with the conservative agenda.

More government say in media.
More government say in bedroom activities.
More government say in family medical decisions (we'll pass a federal LAW for you, if you wnat)
More unquestionable government (any criticism of the government helps terror!)
More goverment say in everything.

Trust the federal goverment. And if you can't trust them, trust the executive branch.

Nothing could go wrong with that philosophy. Nope. Nothing at all.

I'll say it like I always do in these threads. Aren't the Republicans supposed to be the ones who want less government in our lives?

pingdum says: "I'll say it like I always do in these threads. Aren't the Republicans supposed to be the ones who want less government in our lives?"

Usually, when confronted with the fact that the federal government keeps growing under Bush W, the conservatives usually cry "terror! don't you get it? terror! terror!!!"

(As an aside, even with "war" spending, if we are fighting a war, shouldn't there be sacrifices or some other answer made instead of using big federal government to keep spending while borrowing?)

But the federal government is growing:

"Non-defense discretionary spending under Bush has grown by 35.7 percent, the highest rate of federal government growth since the presidencies of Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson."

Oh, that liberal media!

Oh, wait, that quote is from William Buckley at the National Review.

Whatever happened to you, conservatives?

America, land of the free? What a joke.
Danish TV doesn't cut anything out. Titties, pussies, dicks, ect.. The word fuck is even in some danish commercials.
How glad I am that I live in a land of personal freedoms. I have the freedom to watch what I want on TV, or just shut the damn thing off.

Ah yes, but why should we allow our children to be scarred for life by Janet Jackson's boob?

Why aren't they out in the garage snickering over National Geographic magazines like every other normal kid?

Or sneaking your Playboy out of the house to share with a friend?

Ah yes, but why should we allow our children to be scarred for life by Janet Jackson's boob?
I hope you are joking.
A tit is such a scary and threatening thing to see on TV.
Much better for your children to see rape and murder every night on TV....

And god forbid that your kids should see a Telletubby with a triangle on his head. He might turn gay immediatly after watching.

Now everyone calm down. No need to panic. I'm sure the government will be here soon too tell us what is the best thing to do. Fine those who are dirty. Easy and logical solution. Let the government decide. Right, Republicans?

whew, that partially exposed breast almost undermined America. Good thing the government was there to protect us!

Wellll, isn't that special. That about sums you up. Nothing to be thankful for but profane TV in Denmark.

Right.

That HAS to be a hash induced post there. If not I would claim it is to avoid making a further fool of myself.

Good grief. You cannot make this struff up folks.

JEFFNDENMARK:

I was looking at this thread through the hypocritical prism of Niceville's mind.

In addition to Playboy and National Geographic (oh, the horror) I was also wondering if his children ever witnessed his fixed gaze on NFL cheerleaders.

Go get 'em, niceville! Go get the USA federal goverment to have more say in this matter so the federal government can save us from ourselves! Your motto must be "more government involvement all the time."

Or just keep pointing your finger at other countries if you want. Feel free.

I am not even sure Niceville likes doing "The Nasty" I don't know why but He appears Prudish.

Larry

You're right Muffin Boy. You can't make up half the drivel that flows from your mouth.

Niceville's idea of the "Nasty" is to switch hands.

"FCC Combing for Dirt"

Brushing for Dust?

Hans

You cannot make this struff up folks.

A line straight from Scooby-do.

NicEvil,
What I am really thankful for is that they don't have religious nutjobs like you over here trying to impose their wacko beliefs onto everyone else's lives.
Fuck you and rattlesnake kiss'n church you belong to.
We also have way fewer sex crimes here than the USA. I wonder why?

Jesus used cannibus.

www.cannabisculture.com

Cannabis...oops

Nicevilles idea of nasty, is jerking off to Andy Griffith reruns...
That Aunt Bee was something!

Don't worry Nicey,
I'm sure Joe and 101 will be here shortly to help think up some more lame insults to trow at me....

Case in point: Titanic.

Can't have the sex scene, but the bodies floating in the water are OK.

And Roy, Spanish TV gets away with murder because if it ain't English, it ain't profanity.

Comprende pendejo?

" That Aunt Bee was something!"

Jeff

It's Opie.

yeah scarey....thats right......we want to know everything you do in your bedroom.......but of course if it would be more exciting to watch the weather channel, we would just turn it off....lol

sure jeff.......and we all hope that you enjoy your time there in the land of freedom.......hey what is the aids rate there in your land of the free?
and how dare the fcc actually demand that we have standards in our country....thats terrible.......

BUT this may have a bright side.....there are very few questions, for instance, where the questioner doesnt ask the DUMBEST questions...maybe this will cut down on that......

The only good thing to come as a result of the FCC 'crackdown' (which is really just pandering to the various pro-family pro-religious wackos) is Howard Stern moving to Sirius satellite. Now I get to listen to 20 years of his programming, uneditted and unfiltered, asides from his new and better shows every day. Man, feels so good to be an adult, in control of exactly what I listen to!!

Siriusly (pun intended), I don't even listen to 'terrastrial' radio anymore, except occasionally NPR (which they have on Sirius also, just not the local programming).

I guess in the future, we'll have to pay cash for freedom..... until they start censoring pay services also, WHICH btw their have been senators suggesting legislation to censor and regulate pay TV/Radio also. Land of the free, peeps ..... ?

their-there-they're blech

Who thinks Michael Powell really got this job through normal channels...or did daddy help...

He's a Nazi

Win elections - then make the rules.

There have to be some standards. Who & how they're determined goes back to winning elections.

dammit oohrah.....where have you been? dont you know that elections are all rigged...well if the "right" wins, they are.....and didnt you know that because of slavery that the people can never have a voice in anything anymore.....as someone will tell you...if we listened to the will of the people we would still have slaves......

and if all that doesnt work.....hey there is a judge somewhere left of san fransisco that can make it all go away anyhows..........geez.......PA
Y ATTENTION........LOL

What I am really thankful for is that they don't have religious nutjobs like you over here trying to impose their wacko beliefs onto everyone else's lives.

I thought you wooden clog wearing pussbags had severe problems with muslims? Maybe it was just the invasion of unemployed shitheaps from the USA I was thinking of.

I stand corrected.

I have no problem with the censoring of free tv and radio to a point. What Stern did needed censoring. Damn, hell, side boob (thank you Peter Griffin), bitch, shit, etc are all acceptable on free tv IMO, but not all are acceptable at 3pm.
I am 100% against ANY censoring of pay cable or pay radio. I believe executions should be PPV.

atheism.about.com

This is such bullshit. CABLE TV is something I PAY for should not be censored. Radio, what are they trying to prove by asking for tapes of previous recordings. Fine em if TONS of people get pissed about a bad word, other then that government can take a hike, I like vulgar language. Parents kiss my ass and don't let your kids listen to the bad shit. It's your fault because you can't control what your kids listen to.

I honestly think the FCC is going to go to far and kill radio.

I'm not saying that parents shouldn't control their kids, but it is ridiculous to think they can watch them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (hell, the ones that do raise freaks anyway).
On broadcast TV and radio there is no need for anything overtly vulgar or sexual. Leave that for cable and setellite radio.
If you don't like vulgarity and overt sexuality then don't get cable or satellite radio. If you want that stuff then by all means get pay tv and radio.

Okay, but why have the FCC going back and getting tapes of programs that have already aired, to see if there was any offensive words used.

Incedently, if someone on the air has an honest slip of the tounge, that will get you fined by the FCC.

Roy,
I don't know, and if it's true it's ridiculous. I don't or won't defend that.
What I am defending is the need to keep broadcast tv and radio free of obscenity. The good old days of damn, hell, bitch, ass, and the sight of an ass or sideboob are OK by me as long as it's time appropriate.
I enjoy the obscene language and nudity, but I realize cable and satellite are the place for it, not free radio and tv.

I notice that most of the righties just attack the libs here but really can't defend what the appointees of their supposedly elected president does.
Apparently it is ok with them to have these nut jobs censoring TV and radio and then fining them immense amounts. It is obviously just a method of forcing out any broadcasters who say things they don't like, they will just review the tapes and then decide what is obscene. They refuse to give a straight answer on what constitutes obscenity and will decide basicly on a case by case (right vs. left) basis. Anyone who doubts that these people are fascists has obviously already had a lobotomy.

I'm very happy that the Republican led Senate, Congress and Presidency has kept me safe from.

1.) Terrorism.
2.) Sex not done in missionary fashion.
3.) Profanity on my Over-The-Air Radio & TV viewing / listening.
4.) Most recently: internet gambling.

I'm also very happy that some incumbent Democrats from my state supported said moves, it makes it very easy to know who the hell I'm going to help run out on a rail.

People, turn off your T.V. if you don't like what is on it. The few things I am interested in watching, I "Tivo" and then watch at my leisure. My wife and I have seriously discussed getting rid of our television. However, I think we are worried that our friends will think we're too weird or something it we do that.Peer pressure.

Don't fool yourselves into thinking that Democrats are less interested in protecting you from dirty words than Republicans are. If Gore wins the next election, Tipper can bring back the old "Parents Music Resource Center" and get rid of all the gangsta rap.

and how dare the fcc actually demand that we have standards in our country....thats terrible.......

I agree. Especially when the fine is ONLY $325,000.

This just goes to show how little BUSH cares about each and every one of us.

$325,000 for cussing, yet Shrub thinks you shouldn't get more than $250,000 if an incompetent doctor maims you for life.

I guess we know where those priorities are!

Oohrah,

There have to be some standards.

BULLSHIT!!!

Almost everyone has their own remote control.

Don't you think the American people are smart enough to set their own stantards?

I dunno We have Dubya don't we LMAO

Larry

first profane words on tv.

"ward, don't you think you were a bit hard on the beaver last night?"

edit that!

"ward, don't you think you were a bit hard on the beaver last night?"

I just had to post that again.....

If they really want to make a difference in the world, here is what the FCC should be doing instead of enforcing profanity and exposure rules and chasing after guys like Howard Stern, start investigating and cracking down on false television ads of just about anything like:

Weight Loss - there's a fortune in fines to be harvested here.
Exercise Equip - yeah, that model they got did it all on their machine.
Hair club - I swear they're taking pictures of good heads of hair for the after picture, then shaving them for the "before" picture!
Religious shills soliciting money.
On and on ...

Misleading people for money is a more offensive and indecent "morality" issue.
