Sounds like the Press screwed themselves. They should have come to some kind of "pool" agreement amongst each other like they have when high-security top secret clearance trips are made by the POTUS VPOTUS and other administration VIPs.

They should have known that the three suicides would heighten the security concerns and force the DOD to limit the number of civilians and media on the base.

They should have accepted that there would only be three media outlets covering this story and work with them to share the info.

Instead the pressure by the media outlets to be given the same access as those media outlets given the OK forced the DOD to pull the plug on all media coverage in the interest of national security.

We are at war. Gitmo is a military installation housing enemy combatants. And the media may not like being thrown out but they have no constitutional standing in the matter.

If a Gitmo prisoner were to commit suicide alone in the forrest, would anyone hear it?

Try reading some of the transcripts from the kangeroo court tribunals of the "enemy combatants" that were released. God help us if our terrorism -er- intelligence agents cant do a better job than when they rounded up those rubes and dirt farmers.

I wish they would let these reporters spend a day with the detainees. No shackles, no guards. They can tell these harmless victims how much they tried to get them released or wrote arcticles claiming how they were tortured and abused. They can remind them of the made up rubbish written by major newspapers who print released prisoners stories of torture and abuses. All the third hand articles true or not as long as they show the prisoners as mistaken fighters on the battlefield.

No they are not POW's... They are "enemy combatants". According to the administration. The administration has gone out of its way to make this distinction, because there are certain protections afforded to actual POW's. One of which is a ban on the sort of torture we are carrying out.
