Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Juliet Eilperin: Japan and Norway, two nations that have refused to give up large-scale whaling despite widespread condemnation, are on the cusp of gaining control of the international commission that since 1986 has strictly limited whale hunting in an effort to rebuild the population of the world's largest creatures. I didnt even know whale oil was still in demand

Good. We shouldn't be killing the largest animals to ever grace this planet when there is no need to anymore.

But Nuclearmidget, they taste soooo damn gooood. Cut through the fat and the meat is outstanding.

But it doesn't take a large brain to realize that since they are so freakin' huge there are less of them than say Cod, Haddock, Tuna, etc.

Eat too many of them and they're gone forever.

Enjoy the hunt responsibly.
Don't overkill, and there should be no problem.
Throw poachers in jail for 50 years.

Ambergris, a secretion of the sperm whale intestine, is regarded as a marine mammal product by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Possession of it is prohibited by the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which includes the sperm whale, declared an endangered species on June 2, 1970. The Act states that it is unlawful to possess, sell, deliver, carry, transport, or ship by any means whatsoever any parts or products of an endangered species taken within the United States. This means that, although ambergris is valuable as a fixative in the manufacture of fine perfumes, perfumers in the United States are not allowed to buy or sell it or perfumes containing it. They now use a synthetic substitute.
Beachcombers who find ambergris should report it to the nearest state or federal conservation agency. One should keep in mind, however, that pieces of wax, rubber, plastic, or other materials may, at first glance, be mistaken for ambergris which is opaque and ash-colored. Interesting historical facts about the uses and value of ambergris are presented in "Ambergris - Neptune's Treasure," Sea Frontiers, 4(4): 201-209, November 1958 and "Ambergris - Floating Gold of the Sea," Surveyo7; May 1981.

You get thrown in Jail longer for molesting a Bald Eagle(whale, alligator ect) than a child, Gotta have priorities in order.

Or putting up anti-Bush posters, burning a flag, getting married while homosexual, etc ad nauseum...

I think the Republicans have a problem with their priorities now...

What an incredibly brain-dead, knee-jerk comment. Now whaling is a Republican/ Dem issue? Who was the last prominate Republican to stand up for extermination of whales?

For most liberals the subject, facts and other pesky details just don't count. They require thought and consideration. If there's a negative to it, it must be a sinister plot by Bush!
