Tough sex predator laws are good.

Mormonism is bad.
More man, less God. I highly recommend "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer; it's about the history of the Mormon church, and Mormon fundamentalism. It has a fascinating section on the whole Elizabeth Smart episode with some truly disturbing facts.

And many of you think Christianity doesn't value women enough; take a look at Mormonism. Yeeeeccch.

Isn't Krakauer the guy who did the book on Everest? Is it the same one? "Into Thin Air", something like that--I heard it on a book on tape, and it was great.

RIGHTisRIGHT

Isn't Krakauer the guy who did the book on Everest? Is it the same one? "Into Thin Air", something like that...

Jon Krakauer

. . . announced her support of a measure pending in the Senate that would strengthen laws meant to protect children from predators.

Well, it's about time that somebody addressed this important issue! I am so tired of watching kid-nappers and child rapists accept the citation for their offenses and going on about their lives.

Think of the children! ~ Middle 'Merica, consistently through-out the 20th & 21st Centuries

Marijuana makes our women want to listen to jazz music and sleep with Negroes. ~ Henry Anslinger, 1933

I have a great rule to protect your children....

If you are a Mormon, obsessed with wealth, a Millionaire, you should not pick men up of the streets to work around your home and family. Call a reputable agency...spend a few more bucks and be safe...

Sorry to be cynical, it shouldn't have happened but Mr Smart was partly responsible...

Can't put my finger on it, but in my opinion there's something a little fishy about this case. Something's missing, something's not kosher (or Doctrine and Covenants worthy, in the case of Mormonism).

The way others were blamed for the disappearance of the recent runaway bride, perhaps a similar excuse would not be all that unusual in the case of a runaway teen-ager.

I may be wrong, but I find suspicious the untaken opportunities to seek help while in so-called "captivity."

Here is My thoughts. I believe Elizabeth SMarts Father allowed Her to go with these folks and then turned around and made a police report to cover his own ass. I do not believe SHe was abducted I do in most cases but this one is just too hoocky for me. Just doesn't make sense.

Larry

Why didn't the Smarts just do the Republican thing and hire some wetbacks to do the work.
Matbe that's why Bush won't close the border-to protect our children from religious loonies.

But was she Smart enough not to get kidnapped? Huh? Huuuuh? Oh man... I got nuthin'

Some Smarts in Washington.....its about time!!!!

Elizabeth Smart went through hell. However, because the bill deals with previously convicted sex offenders, and her abductor was not previously convicted, she is nothing but a tool in this case.

"Under the Banner of Heaven" was good but keep in mind, Jon Krakauer, was looking at some extremists which I'm sure do not represent mainstream Mormonism. I highly recommend "Into the Wild" by the same author.

Does she have any relation to Maxwell Smart?

Elisabeth Smart, and her asshole father are both MEDIA WHORES!!!

He is always sticking his nose in shit here in Utah.

Cheap, republican, morman. They all mean the same thing here in this state.

All the Smarts keep SAYING is they wanT Elizabeth to just move on to a normal life and forget the whole thing.

All the Smarts keep DOING is exactly the opposite.

If you ask me it was all a setup. And I'm not the only one.

2112...

Say what you want about her "asshole father", but give the girl a break. Tool of the right? Maybe. Emotionally destroyed girl? Definitely. Media whore? No. I think she gets manipulated into shit like this, but she's not personally looking to relive the most traumatic experience of her young life over and over again.

And it wasn't a set-up you conspiracy nut... Jesus.

"And it wasn't a set-up you conspiracy nut... Jesus.'

Where you from Head Shot?

Are you aware of all the facts?

I tell you these Mo Mo's are some strange peoples man.

I might have been a little hard on HER but give her time. She'll end up just as brainwaxhed as the rest or em'.

I'm from all over... mostly New England though.

And I agree. Mormons are pretty effin' weird. I have no doubt that her Dad and the pols manipulating her are shady characters, but I don't think she personally is part of the problem. If anything, she's the biggest victim.

Seriously, read the book. The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree in Mormonism. The founder of the religion was a freakin' pedophile. "Under the banner of heaven" by Jon Krakauer (same guy as "into thin air" and "into the wild") goes into the history behind the Elizabeth Smart case.

Spoiler:
basically, with the intellectual underpinnings of Mormonism, Elizabeth Smart was completely willing to go along with the psycho a-hole who took her; her mom had given the guy money before, and the whole family shared some of the blame.

Joseph Smith saw the angel Moroni and started his church of Latter Day Saints. When Smith was martyred, Brigham Young led some of the leaderless group to Utah. The original Joseph Smith group eventually headquartered in Independence, Missouri.

Two different leaders. Two different churches.

The Utah church is very wealthy. They remind me of the Scientologists. The Missouri church can barely scrape two nickels together.

Joseph Smith believed (pre-Rosetta Stone) that he could "read" Egyptian hieroglyphics. He "read" in them what he wanted others to believe. In the Book of Mormon, he revealed that Jesus had visited the New World and that he would restore the "true" church of Jesus to the earth.

Both churches revere Joseph Smith, but in different ways.

... with $30 billion in assets, an annual gross income of $6 billion, and membership of about 10 million and growing, the Mormon Church is a colossally successful fraud! However, as Anatole France once said, "If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing."

I have to go with Mr. Peanut and Larry on this one. This whole case never struck me as right, there was something very odd about it and her parents are strange.

She was actually at a party with people who knew her while she was wearing the robes and she never said a word.

Ever since the day she was "kidnapped" the whole thing has just been a little strange.

Lizzie is looking good......I wonder if she has dreams about scraggly bum looking dudes with bad BO and a god complex.....Frank55 is Elizabeth Smarts dream man!!
