...............then it's just a game called 'find the eye'

That would go over real well here in Los Angeles - for about 2 minutes - then the Mexicans and the Black students in the highschools would be fighting and killing each other again. Absolutely zero tolerance out here for ANYTHING weapon-related in our high schools. They are already a war zone.

Announcing the judgement, the Supreme Court said that a total ban on kirpans violated the country's Charter of Rights.

The charter guarantees total religious freedom within Canada.

....

"Religious tolerance is a very important value of Canadian society," Justice Louise Charron wrote in the judgement.

Says it all right there.

Despite this kind of cowardly thinking....

"My first reaction as a parent is a feeling of insecurity," Claude Bouchard of the Quebec Federation of Parents' Committees, told Reuters news agency.

"As a parent, is the life and safety of a child more important than religious freedom? I think so."

Trading a freedom and tolerance for a little bit of security is a deal with the devil.

When illegal guns aren't killing 60 odd a year in the major urban centres and kirpins become the bane of society, then perhaps it might be an issue. To date in all the time there have been kirpins worn in Canada, there has not been a single incident recorded of a student drawing the knife in a school.

Regards,
etc.

So long as everyone can carry knives. Otherwise it will be discrimination. Allow the Whites to carry longswords and start another crusade - it is obviously overdue judging from this story.

What age old religious belief would it be that you're talking about Paleocon?

Regards,
etc.

His "Religious" belief that white christians are better than everyone else in the world.

What will Canada do when some Islamist shows up and demands that Canada recognize his multiple wives? Polygamy has been practiced by Muslim societies for as long as the Hindus have been toting ceremonial daggers, if not a lot longer.

OK, serves me right for not reading the article first. Sikhs have been carrying these daggers since the 17th century. I'm sure the legal basis for polygamy goes back a lot farther than that.

Coming soon, to a Canadian courthouse near you.

Wonder what would happen if you showed up with a weapon that is sharper than any two edged sword and older than most weapons?

The Bible.

Stormy,

Prior to Columbine, how many school shootings made national news? Prior to 9/11, how many commercial jet aircraft were intentionally flown into buildings?

What's the clich? There is always a first time. I guess Canadian kids are expendable.

Also, did anyone ever think the "weapon" might be taken away and used by someone else? Of course not. So naive.

Hey NY
How many cops are killed with their own guns? You make a good point.

Canada is such a progressive society.

Does this mean suicide vests will be legalized soon?

Wonder what would hapen if I set nutzy's bible on fire and shoved it up his ass?
Other than my hand would stink, that is.

Too late Zat. Somebody beat you to it.

"Somebody beat you to it."

Oh well......

Sikh, and ye shall find.

Wonder what would happen if you showed up with a weapon that is sharper than any two edged sword and older than most weapons?

Yeah right Nicevoid. That is why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world.

This,
an article from the Ministry of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women,
might be of interest to those wondering about polygamy in Canada. It IS a problem currently and it is being monitored. Google "Bountiful British Columbia" for some sad and eye opening stories.

The practice is against the criminal code. It would require a successful charter challange to overturn it - and that does not preclude the government refashioning the law to conform to the charter if that did happen. As in the case of the kirpins, those advocating it is a religious necessity would have to demonstrate such, AND, that the well being of society's members was not unduly effected by it.

Again, there has never been an incident of a kirpin being used in any fashion. Again, giving up freedom for a sliver of supposed security is a fool's bargain.

Nicey? You can carry your bible into any school (as a student of course, or a parent of one, otherwise you would have to show permission for being there). You can read it without interference. You cannot preach, or interrupt the normal daily activity of the school.

Seems simple enough.

Has anyone blown one up in school? No? Then I guess that is fine.

It has nothing to do with Christianity. One need be blind to not see the differences in societies created by Whites as compared to others. Why are these mud people swarming into White countries - out of fondness for their own?

You think these "Sikhs" doubt their superiority? Seems the only ones who feel obliged to doubt themselves are gutless Whites.

We've had a fraction of the violence in our schools that America has. You forget that we enforce attitudes around that, that aren't 'in fashion' in the US. It is a major reason why we tote around just as many guns as you do per capita, but don't end up using them on one another to a fraction that Americans do.

How many suicide vest wearing kids have you encountered thus far at your kid's school?

Every school locked down to the nth degree?

They aren't. And there aren't suicide barriers around each school for the car bombers either are there? There aren't anti-missile platforms on school yards should someone try flying a plane into the building either.

You're being exceedingly paranoid or silly, or both.

Regards,
etc.

I am not so sure TPS.

And the Bible reference was a symbol for ANY Christian activity.

A teacher was fired and/or reprimanded for wearing a cross for instance so do not tell me that there is not a double standard many times.

Nicey,

My kids attend a Catholic high school.

There is the Catholic School Board, the public school board, the Jewish, the Muslim, etc. etc.

You are totally within your rights to carry that book with you into ANY of them. By law in Canada you CANNOT be discriminated against for your religious beliefs. Kids wearing a cross are absolutely the norm here.

If any teacher was persecuted for wearing a cross they would have an open and shut case in court. In that respect the school boards are incredibly politically correct here. The whole kirpin issue was a school board taking it upon themselves to make a decision against a religious symbol and it ended up in the Supreme Court as a result. Any judgement in the future will have to take that into account. Any law made in this regards will have to as well.

Charter challenges in Canada are a frequent thing and the citizens quickest redress for bad laws, or bad use of a perfectly good law.

You're welcome with your bible any time.

Regards,
etc.

Seems the only ones who feel obliged to doubt themselves are gutless Whites.

The only folks I see with that sort of thinking are types like you Paleocon. It never occurs to those of us who aren't driven to assess the world as a balance of racial superiority.

* * * *

I have been watching it. Good piece in the Western Standard on the subject. And if the court ruled that kids could carry knives to school, I'm going to bet on form: in Canada, you will have the state recognize polygamous marriages.

Then the floodgates open--multiple wives entails changes to the pension system, the healthcare entitlement programs, probate law. Today we are discussing it only in a theoretical way, but in a few years' time, probably less, you will have to deal with it in a nuts-and-bolts fasion, involving actuaries, accountants, and a whole lot of attorneys. Sounds like this charter is going to pose a lot of problems. Expensive ones.

Fashion.

Apologies.

My bet RiR is that the balance of harm done to society with polgamy would cause it to continue to be banned. It's not gay marriage after all and two consenting adults doing as they please. This is about 13 year old girls in some cases basically sold into domestic slavery. Laws protecting children would immediately trump that kind of a Charter challenge.

We also have something called the "Not Withstanding" clause in the Canadian Constitution. A clever device not much used (for good reason) that can be involked for a short period of time (and thereby needs to be continuously reviewed and renewed). A law passed using the Notwithstanding Clause holds it above all other laws that might apply.

I suspect it would not need to come down to that but if it did, the necessary mechanisms are in place.

Regards,
etc.

Well, I think you might be too optimistic. After all, if the gender of the parties to the marriage is not relevant, why should the number of participants be?

My prediction: a slippery slope--the Islamists are too clever to show up on the courthouse steps with two or three pre-pubescent girls in tow. The first guy that does it will have two or three wives of middle age. Then, thousands of cases later and after Pandora's Box is opened, you'll see multiple marriages involving children, provided the girl's parents are so inclined, as they usually are. Or, you'll have Islam itself recognizing the marriages, but Canada will only recognize it after the girl reaches the age of majority.

I don't see how this can end well.

I've heard the Bible called many things, but I've never heard of it being referred to as a "weapon." The very concept of using spirituality as a instrument to inflict pain or death on others is way beyond my comprehenion. To use an old '60s meme, you evidently spell Christian with a "K." Jesus called...he said you need to shut the fuck up and keep your Talibaptist shit to yourself. Isn't there some abortion provider out there you could go stalk? Seriously...you need to get out of the trailer more often. The propane fumes are gumming up your synapses. Now I know why you are occasionally referred to as Nutzvile or some deriviation thereof. Seriously...you're not a well person.

Well, Dutch, I wouldn't presume to speak for Niceville here, but it's a quote from the book of Hebrews: "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. "

Time to blow the dust off your Bible and read it. Martial expressions are everywhere therein. The Sword of the Spirit. The breatplate of righteousness. And so on.

Sorry for the swearing...I haven't had my coffee yet but people using xian thuggery to make points makes me do the stream of consciousness thing without thinking it through. But then again, if I were a Christian I would tend to believe that God loves an occasional colorful metaphor when used to good purpose. Again, my apologies to those with dainty sensibilities.

The only folks I see with that sort of thinking are types like you Paleocon. It never occurs to those of us who aren't driven to assess the world as a balance of racial superiority.

Then I guess you are unaware of the NAACP, UNCF, La Raza, Jesse Jackson, Ray Nagin, scholarships for non-Whites only, etc...

You are the ignorant one.

RIR...Sorry...athiest, raised in a series of foster homes...Mormon, Catholic, bonkers Born-Again, you name it. The most interesting was the Shintoists. Every leaf, every rock, even the wind in the trees has a life and a message for us to hear if we are still enough to hear it. Christianity and Islam has too much dogma, too much blind ritual. I watched too many good people waste their lives struggling against a constant, debilitating anxiety that God might not let them into heaven. But then some were just shitty people that hid behind their faith as way to justify their petty torture. My point was that using faith as an instrument of aggression (bible=knife was what I thought the gentleman was babbling about in reference to the topic of the thread) goes against the tenents of what I was taught Judeo-Christianity stood for, and pushes an old button.

OK. Point taken.

Ignorance is in the eye of the beholder Paloecon. I never called you ignorant. I did however call you a racist. And I still am happy to cast my lot with those that don't ajudicate based on what accident of birth you happen to see yourself a part of.

Excellent post Dutch.

Regards,
etc.

I don't know what the big deal is. As long as you've got another kid in there who's good with "throwing stars", the kid with the sikh dagger won't be an issue. The "throwing stars" kids can be trouble, too, though.

Who cares about Canada anyway? I mean really, now that the wimpa ass pussyies from the North aren't even on our side anymore....all they are the far- Western part of France to me.

They can stick their Canadian bacon up their ass for all I care.

"Who cares about Canada anyway?"

Well, ... Canadians to start with.

You are such an idiot Loki.

You need to read something other than Rush L's daily blog. We're bringing back casualties almost every day now in Afghanistan and dead sons more and more often.

Moron.

Somewhere that asshole Bin Laden is hiding and I'll be absolutely pleased if my tax dollars bring him to justice.

Good to have you aboard. Fly in any time. The Toronto Island Airport is an excellent destination and I'll perform the honourary ceremonies with sanctified Upper Canada Rebellion (and nice 6.5% lager).

I have about 500 hours P Baron time.
Solo crossing of the Rockies.
You are a pilot, or you aren't.

I had dreams of getting my license in years past. Never got enough spare time and money at the same time until the desire passed and I got bitten by the boat bug instead (much more pleasant than the avian flu).

Must have been an awesome feeling up over the Rockies - and especially when you set the wheels back down on the ground.

I wonder if I can create a religion where the Holy Symbol is an AK-47. After all it would be useful for my kids to go to school packing a Kirnkov. At least those puny little daggers wouldn't be too much of a threat.

You can't display the Confederate Battle Flag, which is a real symbol of my heritage. You can't mention the word God in school or hang a painting of George Washington in prayer in a classroom, but hey wicked, curved, daggers are OK.

Ya know that's just Sikh!
