If the two men who were seen were Middle Eastern, isn't it possible that they might also be identified as being "White" -- especially if no one got a good look at them.

Think what you want, but these churches were some Black churches and some White churches so that leaves out the race issue. I sort of felt from the beginning that it might possibly have been some Muslim fanatics burning down these churches merely because they represent Christianity. The only problem with my theory, though, is that they are all in Alabama. If it were some Muslims doing it [for cartoon revenge, whatever] then I think they would have done it in some other nearby states rather than stick in the same area so I really don't know.

Why don't these small churches in these rural Alabama areas hire a couple of 24 hour security guards until they catch the guy(s) doing these church burnings?

Chris, I'm here, and I've spent most of my life in Baptist churches, and we don't have any more of a clue than you do. What's also strange is that Alabama is one of the most gun-friendly states in the union--a good 80% of households own MORE than one gun. Maybe that's why this is happening to out-of-the-way congregations--you try that in almost any AL city or suburb, and you won't survive the walk to your getaway car. Just a guess, though. Smarter guys than I are working on this, and if they are getting close to figuring it out, they're sure no saying.

Churches look out for each other--when something like this happens, we share sanctuaries, combine services, stuff like that. Sounds trite, but thankfully it is only property damage. So far. And in order to equal the damage we went through during Katrina and Ivan, these arsonists will have to stay pretty busy, for a long time.

I don't recall the race being discussed with the sniper shootings, but it wouldn't surprise me at all, as most serial killers are white after all.

Back to the churches, I really would like to know the motivation now, if it really is muslims trying to get a reaction, they are now sorely disappointed.

I have just relegated coconservative to the same back drawer of looney bigotry that PALEOCON resides in. Obviously a very bitter person incapable of having rational thought on this one. I have known many Baptist and most are upstanding people. But like any humans they have their faults too. My heart goes out to all my neighbors in Alabama that have lost their churches through this.

For the rest... leave race out of this one. We will see who did it when and if they are caught. Until then speculation by the uninformed (all those not actively participating in the investigation and privey to evidence) which would be us, is useless. All we know is that race wasn't an issue in picking the targets.

As for what you may have seen with some bad examples of Christians... I apologize. But you should treat them as individuals. Most Christians I know would abhorr the treatment you recieved. My ex-in-laws were Catholic, and while we had many arguments and debates on biblical issues I never once thought of saying they weren't true Christians. That isn't for me to judge. Most people I know would say the same, and that goes for Baptist too.

As I said before, you sound very bitter. But your experiences are no excuse for your hatred and I won't excuse your actions since you have not taken to opportunity to rise above those you ridicule and despise.
