Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, testified to a federal grand jury that he had been "authorized" by Cheney and other White House "superiors" in the summer of 2003 to disclose classified information to journalists to defend the Bush administration's use of prewar intelligence in making the case to go to war with Iraq

DICKED!

I posted this at 1:01.

Don't mind losin' out to Sarge, though.

Knock Knock!

Who's there?

Nobody.

Thought so.

Thanks, RCade, now all my comments on this matter are posted in the wrong thread! Dingbat. :-)

Can't the pres. declassify parts of the NIE if he wants to anyway?

DOGMAN

So as far as Bush saying that if anyone in his administration leaked information that was classified they would be removed. Is that another lie? or can all of Herr Bush s men give out any information that they wish? what a bunch of immoral scumbsgs

Repeat after me libs:

"WE TOLD YOU SO, DICKHEADS!"

Cheney is scum.

Alex,
I don't think anybody ever disputed the fack that Dick Cheney is an asshole. If you're his enemy he'll kick you in the fruit and laugh in your face.

Who gets to be President if Bush gets impeached? rofl

Heads will begin to roll now, thank God!

Vern, and you like that?

DOGMAN

Who gets to be President if Bush gets impeached? rofl

Posted by Incubus_con at 2006-02-09 04:17 PM

That would be cheny, supposing he isnt impeached in the same trial...

Cheney is first!

"Vern, and you like that?"

Sometimes that's what it takes, especially in politics.

Well now, in light of the papers that show that Plame was a covert operative and the CIA was actively trying to protect her status as such, Dicks authorization of the leak would be treason would it not?

Also the destruction of e-mail from Dick's office would also be conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

The only question that remains is.... why is this asshole still in office?

I am sure Cheney said to Libby "You are authorised, if you will" since he says "if you will" in almost every sentence.

Well now, in light of the papers that show that Plame was a covert operative and the CIA was actively trying to protect her status as such, Dicks authorization of the leak would be treason would it not?

You would think. And the obstruction charge should stick too.

But come on...fitzgerald has a rather Sisyiphian task here...

He has to prosecute a very secret administration that controls all three branches of government, and has the media in a death grip.

and has the media in a death grip.

You're joking right?

Incubus-

Look at clinton was hounded for month after month with total bullshit. He was called a rapist and murderer by people in the mainstream media, daily. Bush authorizes torture, and everyone talks about what a "nice guy" he is.

And look at how many deep scandals this administration is practically able to just walk away from. The media is doing a poor job of reporting the facts, and many of them are afraid to be labeled unpatriotic.

Even Paul Craig Roberts(wall street journal) believs that bush has been blackmailing tthe MSM into silence with spied material from the NSA.

"You're joking right?"

Uh, I think it's pretty clear by now that the "liberal media" is a myth successfully created by the Repubnicans.

Vern doesn't seem concerned that Cheney views Americans as his enemies. Especially during a supposed time of war.

Sounds to me like the Bushies are still in a pre-9/11 mindset.

We have reached a point where the Bush administration is determined to totally eclipse the people. Bewitched by neoconservatives and lustful for power, the Bush administration and the Republican Party are aligning themselves firmly against the American people. Their first victims, of course, were the true conservatives. Having eliminated internal opposition, the Bush administration is now using blackmail obtained through illegal spying on American citizens to silence the media and the opposition party.

Before flinching at my assertion of blackmail, ask yourself why President Bush refuses to obey the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The purpose of the FISA court is to ensure that administrations do not spy for partisan political reasons. The warrant requirement is to ensure that a panel of independent federal judges hears a legitimate reason for the spying, thus protecting a president from the temptation to abuse the powers of government. The only reason for the Bush administration to evade the court is that the Bush administration had no legitimate reasons for its spying. This should be obvious even to a naif.

www.counterpunch.org

Thedogg- I would argue that the majority of reporters are probably libs, and their bosses conservative.

But do they actual research and report left? No. They usually just regurgitate whatever propoganda the Bush admin has "catapulted" verbatim.

The press isn't quite as biased and liberal. They're actually conservative sometimes,' Kristol said recently on CNN. If Chris missed that one, he might have come across a similar admission by Kristol offered up in the spring of 1995. I admit it,' Kristol told The New Yorker. The whole idea of the 'liberal media' was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures.'

-Bill Kristol.

"A study of ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News in the year 2001 shows that 92 percent of all U.S. sources interviewed were white, 85 percent were male and, where party affiliation was identifiable, 75 percent were Republican."

www.makethemaccountable.com

Alex, I think the truly isidious thing is this notion of "balance". These days, there are always two sides to the story, and nothing is ever stated as fact. Turn on the supposedly liberal CNN, and you hear statements like "the ongoing debate over the theory of evolution." Or the "debate" over whether the US should be engaging in torture. Or the common accusation that the "liberal media" only reports the bad things about Iraq, and not the good. Even reporting the deaths of Marines on a daily basis brings on accusations that the media is trying to undermine our efforts, unless, of course, that report is counterbalanced by some hypothetical theory that in 30 years the world will be more peaceful because of our invasion. The whole thing is such a circus, yet people continue to believe in the existence of the "liberal media".

Cheney will get the boot first. That's the way they did it with Nixon/Agnew. They would hardly want President Cheney fixing things for Bush first.

You smell that? Do you smell that? Impeachment, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of impeachment in the morning. You knwo that smell. It smells like victory.

Regards,
etd.

I agree that sometimes one side is just WRONG, and there is no equal debate. Sound arguments and ideas are being pitted against weak partisan ones and being called "equals"

That notion of "balance" you speak of exists for two reasons:

1-The MSM goes well out of it's way to appear unbiased, for fear of the right leaning radio and print labeling it "liberal"(which it does anyway, so the MSM should be focusing on accuracy in reporting, and not speed)

2-Reagan killed the "equal time" law, so now it's up the media to try and make it's own balance when it feels like it.

So you get 75% conservative guests to try and even out the "liberal media bias" that no longer exists because 75% of the guests on these shows are conservative.

TPS- It smells like another large percentage of the american populace giving up on the system, not voting anymore, and terrorists getting an even bigger free pass,(the first one is from bushs incompetancy) as the govt will be distracted with impeachment.

While it would be good to get these criminal fucks out of that office, I would hardly call it a "victory" Maybe a winning "battle".

But the "war" was lost when we allowed these pieces of garnage to inhabit and soil that white house.

"The MSM goes well out of it's way to appear unbiased, for fear of the right leaning radio and print labeling it "liberal"(which it does anyway, so the MSM should be focusing on accuracy in reporting, and not speed)"

Couldn't agree more Alex. You hit the nail right on the head.

That's the other major problem with the cable news networks-

They've all followed the "get the story first, fast, and never retract anything" policy foxnews has made famous.

That's why cases like The man gunned down in the airport had about 500 different versions. There's so much crap being spewed out their that people just listen with their partisan filters on, and no one knows the facts.

And the lack of research kills them too, as shown in the Terri Schiavo case. Instead of googling easily found court documents, the msm just repeated the lies foxnews broadcast 24/7.

Don't get it first, get it as RIGHT AS POSSIBLE. Then cable news' ratings won't be in the toilet, guys. No one likes watching the news all day until the story is correct.

Libby testified to the grand jury that he had been authorized to share parts of the NIE with journalists in the summer of 2003 as part of an effort to rebut charges then being made by former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson that the Bush administration had misrepresented intelligence information to make a public case for war.

I can't see how this could be anymore plain. The only way the bush admin gets off the hook for this is if Libby is lying about that authorization.

If there's any truth in it, that seems treason at worst, and a blow to national security at best.

incubus just got the HN51 flu virus hence his studied absence.
what a rube!

she was'nt covert, he sat by the pool, he outted her himself, they hate america, critics hate bush, so what?, you're weak on defense..........

Sounds more like jimmy wishful wallback thinking. You may get there yet; but not yet. From the article:

"Finally, the new information indicates that Libby is likely to pursue a defense during his trial that he was broadly "authorized" by Cheney and other "superiors" to defend the Bush administration in making the case to go to war. Libby does not, however, appear to be claiming that he was acting specifically on Cheney's behalf in disclosing information about Plame to the press."

Must have had the heart pounding to think you were reading that Libby was outing Cheney as the authority directing him to out Plame. Maybe next time.

And this is an important story to you pee brains , why ?

It's "pea-brain", Pea-Brain.

Talk about history not repeating itself, but rhiming alot...

WHen I read that libby was going to claim "but they told me too and knew what I was doing" defense; Olie north came to mind immediately, and as I scan farther down the page whos name is in bold print?:

Impeachment is way to good for these fucks if this is true.... unfortunately I cant accutually say out loud what I think is appropriate... lets just say they have a lot of nerve calling anyone treasonous or suggesting they are not a patriot.

I wonder if there is anything in the federalist papers that says the founders were against dual-simultaneous impeachment proceedings.
lol

Rightnut- And this is an important story to you pee brains , why ?

Umm, because if scooter is telling the truth, the vice presidnet of the united states authorized the illegal spread of classified information for the sole purpose of defamation.

Idiot.

And the house of cards continues to fall.

And Rightnut??

LOL...I bet you wet yourself when it first came out that Clinton got a blowjob, thinking that to be an important story, didn't you??

Typical.

InWi - It was a HUGE story to Rightnut, because Clinton actually got something he has been dreaming about his whole life, but never experienced (at least not since his back stiffened up and he could no longer reach it with his own mouth).

We all know the stragety here.

Libby rejects a speedy trial, That keeps new info from hitting the press. On Bushes last day in office Libby gets a pardon.

Hes free before he even goes to trial. In the meantime Libbys lawyers will buy time with montions.

With a republican congress impeachment will never happen. Bush could sacrifice a baby on an alter and the conservative press would have everyone believing he had just saved us from the infant Anti Christ.

You are talking about a baby that has been born right?

Otherwise...............

The only question that remains is.... why is this asshole still in office?

because of the support of 101, Niceville, abu boxy and their ilk.
The ones who hate America and would rather see it destroyed than admit this Administration is less than a gift from God.

here we go let's obfuscate.
and i'm just waiting for someone to bring up the eatin'ain't cheatin' anti-clinton diversion.

No, the rich and powerful do not partake in the perp walk no matter how deserving they are. Their million dollar lawyers will make arrangements where he can come in throught the back door and pose of a nice smiling mug shot ala Tom Delay(ing his conviction).

If it were to come down to handcuffs and the perp walk my guess is Cheney would fake a heart attack to get out of the bad publicity and build sympathy.

I wonder how sympathetic he is to all those G.I.'s in the Iraqi desert that Halliburton gave contaminated water to?

President Hastert??? OMG!!!
Impeachment will get rid of Bush/Cheney but will it really give us a better president??? Doubtful.

But then, what if the Dems took control of the house? Wouldn't they then elect a new Speaker.....President Kucinich...yeah!!!

I am sure Cheney said to Libby "You are authorised, if you will" since he says "if you will" in almost every sentence.

You win the thread.

Scouter Is No G-Man And Like I Said From The Start Of This Libby Unlike Liddy Will Not Take A 25 Year Sentence Without Squealing Like A Pig !!!

-Sarge

The day President Kucinich is sworn in expect the Potomac River to catch on fire.

What, you say...There is a precedent. June 1969, new Cleveland City Clowncilman Kucinich sworn in - poooofff! The Cuyahoga River is on fire.

Vote for Kucinich 2008 - watch your rivers burn!!! Hillary can't make your rivers burn like Dennis!!!

And now it's ... ..

SPRINGTIME FOR SCOOTER and Dick Cheney
Whitehouse is happy and gay!
They're jumping ship at a faster pace
Look out here comes Fitzgerald's case!
Springtime for Scooter (and Bush's VP)
Trapped in the spotlight for sure!
Springtime for Scooter and Dick Cheney
Watch out, Bush
Yer staff lies right to your face.
Springtime for Scooter and Germany ...

Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!
Springtime! Springtime!

Thank you, thank you. I'm here all week. Try the veal.

Dick Dick Dick Dick, what were you thinking?
The former CIA official who coordinated U.S. intelligence on the Middle East until last year has accused the Bush administration of "cherry-picking" intelligence on Iraq to justify a decision it had already reached to go to war, and of ignoring warnings that the country could easily fall into violence and chaos after an invasion to overthrow Saddam Hussein.

Paul R. Pillar, who was the national intelligence officer for the Near East and South Asia from 2000 to 2005, acknowledges the U.S. intelligence agencies' mistakes in concluding that Hussein's government possessed weapons of mass destruction. But he said those misjudgments did not drive the administration's decision to invade.

"Official intelligence on Iraqi weapons programs was flawed, but even with its flaws, it was not what led to the war," Pillar wrote in the upcoming issue of the journal Foreign Affairs. Instead, he asserted, the administration "went to war without requesting -- and evidently without being influenced by -- any strategic-level intelligence assessments on any aspect of Iraq."

"It has become clear that official intelligence was not relied on in making even the most significant national security decisions, that intelligence was misused publicly to justify decisions already made, that damaging ill will developed between [Bush] policymakers and intelligence officers, and that the intelligence community's own work was politicized," Pillar wrote.

NG....but Saddam tried to kill his daddy.
If you try to assassintate the King's father then war will follow. The King is sorry about the 100,000, or so, dead Iraqis but what the hell.
Gotta wonder how long the righties will be able to keep keepin on. It is really piling up. I am sure though that the halucinagens that are in the Kool Aide will be increased.

I don't like veal, but the show was great!

Whoops, I meant to write "Dick Cheney" on the last line. That's what low-octane coffee will do to you.

DAMN...you're running a hundred miles and hour in the opposite direction from comments you made here months ago...saying that Cheney is innocent, and when that looked like it might blow up in your face, all of a sudden Plame was a desk worker. That was a farce and so now you have nothing left on this arguement. You're done.

"Mainstream nutritional science has demonized dietary fat, yet 50 years and hundreds of millions of dollars of research have failed to prove that eating a low-fat diet will help you live longer"

Just want to thank Zatoichi for the above link to the article on dietary fat. It's a must read; I've been aware of the evidence (or lack of it) about the link between dietary fat and heart disease deaths, but this was a particularly good article.

ANTHEM
Thanks
That was published in Science about 6 years ago. If anything helps longevity it's minimal caloric intake. (And DON'T SMOKE!!)

A lot of sex is good, too.
Who cares if it makes me live longer or not!!

Two major problems with getting the Republican party out of office -

1. The Dem's still don't have a viable plan to undermine the Rep's stronghold on the nation.

2. Bush was not elected for his politics. He was elected/re-elected because the constituency likes the way he comes his hair.

As long as he keeps on using that BrillCream it is hopeless. We are all lost.
