Dave Feschuk: They once gave the key to Detroit to Saddam Hussein. It seemed like a good idea in 1980, explains columnist Dave Feschuk, who introduces a little politics to the lead-up to the Super Bowl. [Toronto Star]

Just proves how much of a liar and a backstabber he has been to anyone willing to be on his side. GO SADAAM!!!

Reagan was the first to recognize his presidancy as legitamate. Oh yeah and who was vice preisident....hmmmmm.

Seems that Detroit society has a record of supporting tyrants. Ford and Hitler....

Richard-

Saddam hasn't changed. He was our ally after he gassed the kurds. WE turned on HIM when he invaded kuwait. Truth hurts.

Rumsfeld?

www.gwu.edu

Since the righties are now pre-explaining the breakup of Iraq as Iraq being a fabricated country (borders set by the Brits) shouldn't they all apologize to Saddam for him trying to adjust those borders regarding Kuwait, also a fabricated country to better reflect reality?
Bush1 and Dick Cheney, inventor of the FLIP-FLOP.

yup, back when he was our friend. back when even the dem.s thought he was an allie.

So, either we were wrong for removing sadaam and freeing iraq of him or we are wrong for giving him the key to detroit.

Which is it? Make up your minds. He cant be bad only when you want for him to be and good back when you wanted for him to be.

Which is it libs. Again, hindsight is 20/20. And if you can dig back to something that happend almost 30 years ago, why arent conservatives ever allowed to bring up Clinton???

Flip, flop, flip, flop...

So, either we were wrong for removing sadaam and freeing iraq of him or we are wrong for giving him the key to detroit.

Back to the black or white disease. We were probably wrong in manipulating in the '80's and we were wrong in manipulating in '03.

The Flip, flop, flip, flop was between Reagan and the Bush Boys.

You keep using removing Saddam as if it is a big deal. Bushling is killing more people per year than Saddam. I mean if saving Iraqi's from themselves. Bushling is a total failure. Righty tightys talk about all the lives they've saved. So why are all these people dying? Bushling talks about spreading freedom and thus far he has installed 3 theorcracies in the ME. Its all about terrorists so why are their more? You delude yourselves but not those of us who oppose you bizarre concept of reality. Bushling is an asshole. His supporters are just bigger assholes.

so then is it bad that we gave him the key? or bad that we took him out of power?

Its just big business hypocracy and short sightedness. All they gave a shit about was profit fuck everything else.

We never should have put saddam in power. Been his ally, or turned on him.

In fact, we shouldn't meddle in the ME anymore.

Who are we at war with - East Asia or Eurasia?

HE invaded KUWAIT after HE came to US for help and we told him he should handle it himself. THAT IS THE FACT.

The reason he was set up like that was because the Zionists resented him being an ally to the US when he wasn't one to Israel. Mark my words - if the truth gets out that will be the record.

BTW, the CIA's report said the Kurds were gassed by Iranian style gas. But don't let that get in the way of villifying Saddam. The real question is if our ZOG puppet masters will go back and say it was Iran like they did the first time while they are preparing the ground to invade Iran? We have always been at war with East Asia.....

again, hindsight is 20/20. There wasnt much democratic outcry back in the day....

we should not meddle in ME anymore. so where do we stand on Iran?

Cuz lord knows that if Bush does anything to get rid of Iran's nukes, he will be the tyranical devil. But if he doesnt do anything, he'll be blasted away for that too.

Think of all the billions of dollars we would save simply by stop cutting the welfare check to Israel! Then we could stop sending the check to Egypt! I'm all in favor of it.

Pat Buchanan said something rather succinct on this subject...as to why there is terrorism, and why we were attacked.

"They are over here because we are over there"

FFS, some of these people get riled enough to kill over fucking cartoons in denmark, and we want to meddle in their affairs and steal their resources? Then act surprised when they smack us back?

This country needs to get it's head out of it's ass and stop throwing rocks at the hornets nest.

"They are over here because we are over there"

========

I guess that holds true for every OTHER country that they are bombing....

Actually, yeah...

Check who was in the "ocalition of the willing" and who al qaeda has bombed lately.

so they are just out for anyone that wants to stop them from murdering people...not necessarily because of a hatred of the western world.

Can you think of another city Saddam should have a key to? Oakland? Sau Paulo? Philadelphia? Mexico City? Los Angeles?

Nah, when it comes to Saddam, Detroit should be first.

Well-

The detroit area has given the world:

Madonna
Ford
Kid Rock
Eminem
Coleman Young
Tim Allen
Kwami Kilpatrick
Tom Selleck
Ted Nugent...

And for that, we apologize!

But there's also:

Rosa Parks.
Stevie Wonder
Robin Williams

So it all evens out I guess.

He Was Reagan and Bush Buddy They Were In Charge Of The Country !!!

They Were Both In Support Of Him Supply Him.

Now Prove To Me What Dem President In The 80's Supportted Saddam.

"yup, back when he was our friend. back when even the dem.s thought he was an allie."

That Is So Pure Hack; Pure Rush And Sean Blame It On Somebody Else !!

They Would Have Tied To Blame It On Clinton, Which I'm Sure Crossed Thier Minds !!!

We gave Saddam the key to Detroit! LOL. Hell he would have been better off getting the key to Cartagena, Columbia; it's not as big a dump.

In August 1973, Maharaji [aka Prem Singh Rawat aka Guru Maharaj Ji aka The Lord of the Universe aka Balyogeshwar aka The Perfect Master aka Satguru] came to Detroit for a promotional appearance to hype his upcoming event at downtown Cobo Hall, as part of the Soul Rush cult conversion campaign preceding Millennium '73 in the Houston Astrodome in November, '73. M. was to receive a key to the city, as solicited and prearranged by DLM [aka Elan Vital] operatives. At the city hall ceremony, m. was cream-pied in the face by a young protesting reporter from the Fifth Estate magazine, Patrick Halley, in a much publicized incident that appeared on the cover of the Detroit Free Press the following morning [and in major international media publications].

In 2009, we will have a new president. When Hillary takes the White House, will we have all the troops home from Iraq by the end of Winter... and from Germany and Japan, too? Will all the Mid-East praise the new administration and we will have peace with all terrorists? Will we give Bin Laden and all Muslims the apology they all desire and with it, a full pardon? All middle eastern countries will embrace all religions with tolerance because of the peaceful America that will suddenly shine? Israel and Palestine will be at peace because of the change of power? By 2012 all these things will have come to pass and will remain true?

This will all come to be with the Democrats in power. The Republicans will be removed to bring this absolute utopia to the world.

My vote still goes to the third party

Apparently this is what any democrat off of the street is capable of. Kaine says theres a better way. So apparently he will make everything better. Kerry is a pretty dependable guy, maybe he'll come through for us. Hillary, she's loved by everyone she's governed. The first Clinton was enough of a dissapointment. Maybe she'd be better. I'm sure she posses superhuman powers and will make the world perfect again like it was under Billy boy.

??? Are you serious?? Remeber who it was that went there to shake his hand? Rumfilled! This has nothing to do with the "libs". This is purely a fuck-up of the highest magnitude on the part of the right.

As far as having it both ways, you must not read these posts much. NO, I didnt want him removed. Not becuase I think he should be there, but becuase thats not where the war on terror should be fought and EVRY excuse sppon fed to Americans has proven to be outright lies.

Flip-flop, Flip-flop!

The war shouldn't be fought in Iraq.

Where should the US be sending troops at this very moment?

We are in Iraq now. What do you suggest we do? Total withdraw instantly? Even Hillary Clinton said (paraphrasing) that we are there so now you have to do your best with a bad situation. Do you think she wants a total withdraw now? Do you realize the consequences of a total withdraw? It sounds nice to bring the troops home but there's is a future to consider by that action. A total withdraw now could be even worse at this point in time. Great to whine, where's the suggestions.

I want a full withdraw and the UN will jump up and down because the vacuum it will cause - win/win-they'll have to send troops. Of course, they'll want us to keep some around because we are always the go-to for numbers.

Cuz lord knows that if Bush does anything to get rid of Iran's nukes, he will be the tyranical devil. But if he doesnt do anything, he'll be blasted away for that too.

Wow....the paranoia has really taken hold.

again, hindsight is 20/20. There wasnt much democratic outcry back in the day....
Well, actually there was a great deal, including trying to impose sanctions, but then Saint Ronnie spoketh to the republisheep and said, "kurds are only important in cottage cheese, not getting oil" and lo, the republisheep saith, "it was the iranians who sleweth the kurds, blessed be Saddam of the oil fields".

When is Bush going to Baghdad to receive the keys to that city?
Maybe they could float them upon a balloon and AF 1 could scoop them up. That's as close as he's ever getting to the grateful Iraqis.

Although I do agree with Clinton that a total withdraw will leave an even bigger mess, isn't it the right on here that keeps dancing in the streets everytime they hold one of their weekly elections?? I think that Iraq is damned if we do and damned if we don't. Cut the loss of US lives and hand that shithole over to one of the 12 or so presidents they've elected in the past three years and be done with it.

As for the "well, were there now" excuse, that's gotten painfully old. Yes, we are there based on a premise of LIES, not faulty intelligence, lies. They have made their choice and it's an Iranian thocracy. That was the choice of the Iraqis. Let them live with their choice.

I bring up 'well, were there now' because we are. Complaining about the faulty intelligence won't change it.

I totally agree to leave the country, but I don't want to have to go back in. If we withdraw and the country goes to pot, the UN will be running in with the US being demanded by every nation to lead the way. I support withdrawal and I bet the UN would have to support it and send other country troops to stablize during the withdrawal. Personally, I'd love to see peacekeeepers from all the Middle Eastern countries and none from the US.

Petrous, according to Rummy and Dummy, the Iraqi army is standing up so fast, we oughta be outta there by Labor Day.

Face it, all we're doing there now is serving as cannon fodder, pretending to have some input and letting contractors steal the last of the American taxpayer's money anyways. Bush has already flip-flopped on the rebuilding,so that's gonna just piss the Iraqis off more and end the looting opportunities.
Let's just get out and let them get on with the civil war and ethnic cleansing that we're pretending isn't happening.

Withdrawal-organized and safely done...all for it. I agree-the less loss of life the better. Better if done correctly.

That's why nobody could find Saddam's WMD:
They are all hidden on Eight Mile!!!!!

Key to Detroit?...damn, that proves how much we hate Saddam!

Or how low Detroit's standards are.

aren't we beating a dead horse here? Detroit bashing became quite tiresome years ago...I think we ought to pick a new city to demonize.

uhh

Let's pick Texass. The residents are so stupid, they won't even notice they are a state rather than a city.

And now all Saddam has left is the key to the hearts of the liberal left, its got to be frustrating that he is so unsavory a character that you can't possibly martyr him as a victim of chimpy, or dubya, or whatever you call the president these days

Yawn....what a stupid fuck you are. Why don't you just drag your knuckles back to "freerepublic" or whatever cave you came from.
