Admin's note: This weblog entry is an unmoderated discussion.

Actually it was a mistake.

Wot the kid really wanted to get was a copy of Pinche Mao's "Little Red-Stater Book" plus his "Mao's Big Book of Bush Apologisms"

Spud only reccomend them books fer the colorful pictures inside wot Mao finger painted hisself.

Some nice stuff really.

Be Well.

PS If the Homeland security guys wanna save some time they can just pull a page outta Pol Pots book and start killing people who wear glasses. His logic was that folk who wore glasses must be intellectuals and thus a potential threat to society.

It would save a lot of time cross checking wot everybody in the nation has been reading cos really there are a lot of people who, unlike the Chimpster, actually enjoy reading.

'Course it WOULD be wrong but when has that ever stopped the Smirking one.

Yeah, the Constitution's definitely in good hands with the Ministry of Homeland Security. No problem. Trust us. (But it would be nice if, just every once in a while, someone verified---as in oversaw the activities of these fascisti.)

There must be and army of agents out there trying to drum up work for themselves.

Our tax dollars at work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Americans have the right to read Mao's Red Book?

Also please correct me but, those ferocious Islamofascists, they do read the Quran and not Mao, right?

Of course, Americans also have the right to read the Quran? Yes? No? Maybe?

Zed, that would appear not to be the case. But don't pass the word around, because you might run afoul of the faith-based interpretation of our constitutional rights and (supposedly god-given) liberties.

So, let me get this straight---There is actually a government PROFILE out there that targets university students that ask to read Mao's book whose families also travel extensively?

So, the government has a data base that matches library requests to how much traveling members of your family do?

I see.... This poor student is afraid to come forward just like the guy who wrote the fraud article in the Cabondale, IL. Campus paper.....

When will liberals quit with their anonymous sources ..... Blah blah blah blah....

Must be true News Max has it.

Figures you would defend the feds in this case Dirtman. Guess you think our freedoms are dispensable.

I see.... This poor student is afraid to come forward...

I wonder why you chose this to focus on, is it because if you had a name you could exile him too like you do the rest of America who don't seem to agree with you.

This republican party has scared Americans from standing up for their rights for fear of being put in the black book of being an unamerican terrorist.

It is funny why the republicans just don't feel our rights need protection. Oh, it makes it easier to steal and thieve.

I see.... This poor student is afraid to come forward...

Give us one good or even fair reason why he should come forward.

He hasn't done anything wrong to come forward about.

Wait until they start profiling readers of Guns Digest.

Then we will hear the howls of indignation from the right.

The only time they'll scream is when duhhhbya's goons come to get their guns....

Note: I said WHEN not IF......

I thought commies were godless, including allahless.
I can't wait till Bush starts investigating Italians who may have links to that new guy, Mussolini, or southerners partial to slavery. If you can't win a current war, I guess you just go back in time until you find one you can win.
Word to the wise, though General George, stay away from the Little Big Horn. It's Fallujah all over again. Again.

When I start seeing and hearing from all these ghost sources in the first person, instead of a friend of a friends friend told me, maybe my cynic side won't be so cynical...

But then again. I'm just an average guy trying to make it in a complicated society...and I'm not worried about my present govt. eating me... Knowing in my own mind I'm not out to hurt anyone and since I've had a number on my SS card and drivers license for years not to mention school records.... etc etc etc its not like the govt doesn't already know me. Now on the other hand if I'm up to no good I'd be concerned..... What really cracks me up is that you think the enemy isn't already within, no wait that's not true... you do think the enemy is within you just think it's GW Bush.... that's right the 666 thing and all... and the Skull and Bones thingy we can't forget that.... and the secret sign.... you know... the one where you hold up your forefinger and your pinky.... it's so cute.... isn't it....

I'm a small fish in a big pond... None of this worries me...

Scary development for academia.

Scary development for academia.

What's that I hear? Don't trust the source?

Cut to the chase. If this story was 100% true, you followers of Bush would have no problem with it, would you? Just be honest and get past the "blame the source" game.

Move past that so you can get to the ye olde "I'm not doing anything wrong, so why should I care if the government is spying on me?" excuse.

Why pussy foot around? Just get on with the steps you employ every time: First deny. Then justify. Then accuse anyone who questions it of treason.

First,,, the gov't. of the U.S. SHOULD have the right to investigate anyone who can be established; before a competant and legally authorized court, to be engaged in ANYTHING that could harm its citizens or gov't. That is it is REASONABLE to suspect that a person are persons are so engaged.

Having said that.... the "PATRIOT ACT" allows for this decision to be made OUTSIDE of the courts... IN THE OFFICES OF THE fucking FBI... jezzzzzzzzz louezzzzz...

Heres a cherie thought for ya.... remember these are the same guys who arrested a Oregon lawyer because they "found" his fingerprints on a plastic bag in a van in Madrid....

How did they "find" his prints.... BY USING A FAXED COPY OF SAID PRINTS>...... a FUCKING FAX>..... on this evidence they arrested him and anounced to the world and the nation he was envolved in the MADRID BOMBINGS...

YOU WANT THESE GUYS DOING THEIR JOB WITHOUT JUDICIAL OVERSITE>..... ?

OOOKEY DOOOOOKEY....

Here is something else.....

What if Peter Lance is right?

www.independent.com

Read that in light of this:

www.fas.org

Isnt it interesting that a siting president and a former president can now prevent the release of presidential papers..... BY EXECUTIVE ORDER....

hummmmmm

Hey Dirtman,
Why....is...it...that...you...
.type...the....same...way...th
at...Rex...Niceville...Boxy...
.and the....other....trolls...type?
Are...you...really...all...the
...same...person?

Rastamon....
My sister's chihuahua pissed in Selasie's coat at a party in Germany. Truth.

Splif, mon.

Typical rightwingnut apologist crap, attack the messenger.

BTW dirthead, by the time they come for you, it will be too late to do anything about it.

Bushco has a not so secret little war going on against that "goddammed piece of paper" called the Constitution. In the name of making America safe they are trampling and eroding the civil liberties that you take for granted. The loss of your rights will not be in one big bold swoop, but rather through small changes and tactics like the patriot act and having the NSA spy illegally on US citizens. A little more each day until you have to "show your papers" to walk down the street.

Bah, I am wasting my breath. You either get it or you don't. And you won't.

Are...you...really...all...the
...same...person?

Nope, all of the same limited intellect though.

What the rightnuts seem to always miss in cases like this, is that it DOESN'T MATTER whether YOU think its OK for the federal government to improperly or illegally surveill and investigate someone else. You rightnuts are welcome to waive your own Constitutional rights, but you have no right to do so for the rest of the country. That's the beauty of the Constitution's protection of freedom of thought and association - they don't depend on whatever the current public opinion is.

Another example of something where, if Clinton did it, the rightnuts would be calling for investigation and impeachment. Because it is under King George, all is forgiven and forgotten.

I wonder? Where are all the scared little lemming running around shilling the "they want to destroy our way of life" excuse ---- who then don't say anything, or encourage the dismantlement of civil liberties when we ourselves change "our way of life" out of hysterical fear?

In my opinion, you scared little pusses who give terrorist their power, (terror) in the first place are actually the ones "destroying our way of life" from the inside!

The Little Red Book is a wonderful piece of literary history. In addition to its elequent presentation on Communism and its thoughtful commentary on the futility of capitalism, it comes wrapped in a red cover, my favorite color. It makes for a perfect stocking stuffer, even though I don't believe in Christmas.

A Liberal

"BTW dirthead, by the time they come for you, it will be too late to do anything about it."

Guys like Dirtman are too useful to the cause of big and intrusive government. The library is far from his domain. The concept of expanding one's knowledge is alien, even to the point of "Know Thy Enemy" for it is much easier to be a follower.

If only he would follow the founders of this country and embrace the liberties they and others since have fought for.

Yep...ya gotta watch out fer them book readin', intellektual types, their gonna do this cuntry in, fer shore...I mean..eve'body knows that readin', edumacation an' sech iz un-'merican, jest ask prezdent bush...so as long as ye ain't got no book learnin' like ol' dirtbag, yule be awrite...

Protectin this country from terrrrrrists must be hard werk.

Remember- you are no longer a US Citizen, you are now a potential terrrrrrist.

I hope he told the agents to go fuck themselves. Since when can't you read up on our financial backers and low-wage workforce, the Chinese?

Wrong again, DirtBoy,

Saudi Arabian college enrollment in the US had DOUBLED since 911. I wonder what kind of deal Bush cut with the 'house of saud' to keep quiet over this.

I just love the priorities of the radical rightwingnuts.

The president authorizes illegal spying on American citizens, holds a US citizen without due process under the Constitution, authorizes torture, lies about the rationale for war and calls the Constitution a "goddammed piece of paper" and everything is okey dokey.

But, have one Wal Mart employee say "happy holidays" instead of "Merry
Christmas" and all hell breaks out!

Listen to all the lefties whining about the patriot act. It passed 98-1 in the senate. If you care so much about this, why do you continue to vote dem?

Smart college student learning from Mao. The way the current administration keeps borrowing money from China we all will soon be speaking their language. This is one college student that will end up on top. I recently saw that children are being taught Chineese to do better in the world that is coming. If you still think the USA is a economic power, check out the recent trade deficit. China is taking the lead and kicking our A**!

Wait until they start profiling readers of Guns Digest.

Then we will hear the howls of indignation from the right.

They already do and you will hear the howls of indignation and protest when Hillary Clinton and her ilk use the gun registration lists to start confiscating home owner weapons - like they are now doing in Canada.

I see.... This poor student is afraid to come forward just like the guy who wrote the fraud article in the Cabondale, IL. Campus paper.....

Lol, first deny it happened, then say it wasn't that bad. Buy into the fascism dirt, way to go! And then your precious bible of information News Max covers it!

Hilarious!

BigJohn, if you vote dem, you support the patriot act which you refer to as "facism."

One has to wonder if Dirtboy has ever actually read the Bill of Rights.

"Wait until they start profiling readers of Guns Digest.

Then we will hear the howls of indignation from the right."

And we didn't hear the indignation from the left when the government was spying on white supremecists after the Oklahoma City bombing...
Only when they went after an acedemic writing about communism.

I'm an engineer. If, just out of curiosity I decided to write a resarch paper on the optimal mix ratios of fertilizer and fuel oil...

I wonder if anyone on the left would care if Homeland Security dropped by my house for a chat?

Or if I simultaneously checked out 'Mein Kampf' and 'Industrial Oven Construction'
and got the FBI probing, would anyone on the Left care?

If there is a reason to search people, in it goes through the proper channels then there probably wouldn't be much of an uproar. The fact that the pres has people doing searches not through what used to be the proper channels and doing the big brother thing on someone reading a Moa book, well that is something completely different, wouldn't you agree?

I understand the book was the original Chinese version. Maybe the Feds were looking for translators to recruit.

Or, maybe they were looking for someone to explain to them what it meant.
