I have straight friends who do not conform to their gender role. Although we rib them a bit at parties it is well known that they are 100% straight.

You know, I find this kind of stuff down right ridiculous. I am a gay man. I am also very conservative, non-effeminate, and happy with my life. I am in a wonderful relationship with a person that I love very deeply, and who loves me very much as well. I consider both myself and my boyfriend to be normal, masculine guys. I doubt very seriously that most people would even guess that I was gay.

As I said, I am quite politically and socially conservative. I don't believe that the main-stream conservative movement excludes homosexuals, nor do I believe that liberals have done anything of any substance to "futher the gay cause". I believe that all americans are entitled to the same rights and protections of government (I'm not talking about marraige), and that homosexuals should be treated the same as hetrosexuals - no better, no worse. And I certainly am not offended by mere terminology, in fact I absolutley can't stand politcal correctness.

All that aside, I find this article to be the product of complete and total ignorance. It is a misguided effort to try to prevent the unpreventable. If a person feels a romantic and/or sexual attraction to members of the same sex, following the advice contained in this website will only disrupt and disturb the minds of most children, and they will carry that anguish with them for their whole life. Children, as they grow into adults, need to determine their own sexuality. Parents cannot do it for them. While I admire their intentions, they should focus their efforts on dealing with the depression that most often accompanies teenage homosexual thoughts. You can try to impose your will on an adolescent, but if you risk loosing them forever.

These are good questions that ought to be answered. We often debate these issues without defining any of the crunchy axioms our arguments are composed of. The guidelines set by the American Psychological Association work for me. I think man/boy and man/infant are defined by more than a degree of preference because in those cases the man is causing severe psychological (or physical in the case of the infant) trauma. Society will never accept such things.

A few posters have compared me to those sick bastards at NAMBLA. Well frankly to hell with them. If they lack the cognitive ability to differentiate between a consenting adult and a six year old child then I pity them.

Well, if the criteria to be a "christianphobe" is to think that Focus on the Family is a bunch of right wing bigots, then I guess I am a "christianphobe." However, since the vast majority of Christians do not follow Rev. Dobson or any of his right wing crap I don't think that you can accurately claim that Focus on the Family is representative of Christian values. Were I a Christian, which I am not, I would really get angry about the right wingers trying to claim that they are representative of Christian values. as far as making children go to bed, brush their teeth etc, they are minors and we are responsible for their upbringing so we don't need their consent for mundane activities and being minors they are unable to give consent for sexual activity.
Doing anything to animals that is potentialy harmful,dangerous, or outside their nature is wrong, yes, because they cannot give their consent.

I thought about this for a bit. I think the answer lies in what is accepted on a societal level as being good for the child. We have separate court and corrections systems for juveniles because it is known that they do not know what is best for them, and there are often times when they do not understand what they are doing. i.e. until they are adults, frankly, their consent in a matter is irrelevant. I have a friend who was molested by his aunt and uncle when he was a preteen. He notes that he liked it at the time but that does not change that it was wrong and ultimately hurt him. Conversely I hated going to school when I was younger. I was not there on the basis of consent. I had to go, and now that I am older, I understand how important it was for me to go. i.e. I would not be able to afford the awesome place that I am renting.

Briwo: I don't try to debunk his religion. We both just accept that we see the world different ways and focus on the implifications of our belief systems being accepted on a societal level.

That is sometimes the case but more a decision of the court whether the victim is deemed mature enough to understand what they have agreed to. This would only happen to someone who was 15 years or older. We are talking about much younger children here.

Also, in most cases of statuatory rape the person who was raped is not pressing charges. They are usually on the side of the defendant. When speaking of old teens, this can become a very grey area, but that is not the case with a 5 or 6 year old.

Are these expressions of law by judges, being people, the determining factor of the 'good', consent being the 'good' determining factor in our discussion? If the Supremes are the determining factor of the 'good', then how did the Supreme's decision on Dread Scott come about? Does the SCOTUS institution confer upon its members the authority to determine the 'good'? As well, if the Supremes came down with another decision against something you believe to be 'good', who's opinion would be of higher authority? Your's or their's?

Is it possible that a government that is responsive to the needs and desires of the citizenry is more able to determine the true needs of children? I contend it is so. Were I to consider changing the status quo - forbidding our democratic society to determine what is best for children - I would require examples of democratic societies a) doing horrible things allegedly in the best interest of children and b) refusing to change said policies as a result of dissent.

Well, it isn't. Jesus taught us that "man" isn't qualified to judge.

But, that doesn't stop it from happening. And it doesn't mean they aren't a Christian. It just means they've got "issues". I've always said, how in the world can churches expect to be effective when they can't agree among themselves what it is they believe. It gets complicated.

Still, no one is perfect. To "be a Christian", that simply means you accept the Gospel as "the truth" and you admit you are a sinner to God and you want to be forgiven. Pretty simple. Some Christian churches add to the rituals. I don't think it's necessary, but it's their choice. It meets some peoples' needs.

Some Christians choose to carry all sorts of extra baggage on the trip called life. Some believe themselves just a little closer to God than others.

Then there is the whole problem with "cults" among Christian churches. The best definition of "a cult" I've heard is any Christian organization that believes it has "exclusive access" to the truth. They believe that their group and ONLY their group has "the truth". For example, Baptists will accept that other denominiations are the real thing. So, they are not a cult.

I won't name names, but there are denominations that teach, "unless you are a member of our church, you aren't really a Christian". That is a cult.

But, back to Niceville. Jesus said, "everyone loves the people who are nice to them...I say..love your enemies"

He's not my enemy, and I choose to support him as a Christian.

And I guess, by that logic, non-Christians have problems with the fact that Christianity claims that ONLY Christians have "the truth".

I don't know the answer to your question. I suspect there is much more going on around me than I am aware. Perhaps you can figure it out and tell me the answer. You do seem to be an enlightened person.

I am a simple person, in many respects. I know some very fascinating liberals who believe all sorts of things that I don't know anything about.

For instance, I am good friends with some people who attend Unity. Baptists gringe at Unity's teachings. Unity claims to be "a church of practical Christianity". ie...most members of Unity are democrats for what's it worth, but they are professing Christians.

It's not my place to judge. I only know that some people come across as loving and some come across as judgemental.

I prefer people who are "loving" and some of them are quite conservative and some of them are liberal. Personally, I am much more comfortable around liberals.

yes but now I have developed a problem in the front end with the wheels shaking a bit. My son said ball joints so I will be taking it into the shop in a week or so I hope. Car repairs can be very expensive, which BTW, is why I bought the old jeep, it keeps my repair bills low. I had a convertible, with electric everything and it was great but I was afraid if it broke down I wouldn't be able to afford to fix it so I got the jeep instead. I love the old thing though, I'm not sure why but I actually like driving it.

The whole issue of life after death is much more complicated that what "religion" you accept.

There is also the debate of reincarnation. I just don't know. I've read, "you will be reincarnated whether you believe it or not".

But, it is the words of Jesus when I read the Bible that just strikes a cord with me. His wisdom warms my heart. Other religions are on to something. But, I just keep going back to Christ. It just feels right.

Of course, there is the possibility that since I was taught as a youth, that it could be as simple as that.

But, one's faith is a choice. I have the choice and I have chosen to believe that Jesus was the Son of Man (one of many names) and some odd things have happened in my life that cause me to wonder how I possibly survived some situations I've been in and just wasn't cognizant of the danger.

Faith is beyond explanation. Just seems right to me. But, isn't that what everyone says?

My open-mindedness is as an American. I believe all Americans have a "right" to believe as they so choose. A government can not dictate a religion. It can't endorse or suppress any faiths.

I don't agree with Christian youth groups being denied the opportunity to meet in school. And I don't agree that our politicians should all be Christians, as conservatives often profess.

The first time I attended a Unity Church I was stunned pleasantly. I'd never before heard the concept of embracing and respecting all religions. They also seemed to break the whole magilla into three points:

1) There's something out there better/greater than you, be it Divine, or Spiritual or Metaphysical. (your choice)

2) Do good by yourself. The closest thing I could relate was the Biblical parable of the Talents, the moral of which was "do the best with what you've been given".

3) Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself, a.k.a Do Unto Others...

State sovereignty is embodied in the current constitution--which point has nothing to do with the grounds for which we declared our independence. One of the reasons we declared our independence is:

It allows us to laugh at ourselves AND it helps us get to know each other in a different light. It helps us become more tolerable of their opinions because we have seen them as multi faceted. There are some people here that I used to think were assholes, excuse the language, however, once in a more playful situation have found them to be enjoyable people. Some from the opposing party have become very good friends of mine off site.

So..I don't mind these types of threads mixed in with the more serious ones. It does most people good.

No not at all. The federal constitution is only one document among a plurality of documents that form the organic foundation of the law order which consisted of a federation of states. So, this includes the Continental Congress, the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Paris, the Northwest Ordinance and the Constitutions of the several states along with the Constitution of the United States.

All of these things must be held together to understand the complexity of the federated structure and its legal meaning within the confines of the common law. The federal constitution has never and was never intended to be read in a vacuum of law - it is a common law instrument, which is evident in such Amendments as the 7th and others that recognize common law rights

Responding to appeals for simplicity in government, John Adams stated, "There can be none more simple that despostism. The triple complication, not simplicity, is to be sought for."

Behind this idea of triple complications come a true understanding of the meaning of the Constitution with limited power, different governments, division of powers and a multiplicity of powers and even a complexity of powers.

The term "United States" was a plural noun, taking a plural verb, federated, not centralized, power was the purpose of the Constitution.

This is explicit, to misinterpret requires intent - the problem is that it has intentionally been misrepresented to undermine the limited role of civil government over the life of Americans.

To turn around and say God doesn't exist here thus the system of government and it's law is godless does violence to all of American history - one can't even understand American history from such a presupposition. God doesn't need to even be in the bylaws of the federal government - it doesn't even reach to that.

The phrase "law of nature and of nature's God" comes from the Declaration of Independence. William Blackstone was the premier legal scholar appealed to in the day from his "Commentary on the Laws of England" in 4 volumes as the definer of the terms.

The Declaration of Independence is a legal document charging King George III of a breach of his feudal duty as Chief Executive of the American British Colonies, it is premised upon English common law and its terms are terms of art in the legal jurisprudence of the day.

Such statements as "pursuit of happiness" are overtly and explicitly Christian statements as Blackstone explains them from whom the terms were adopted. In Jefferson's first draft he had "property," but the committee of Jefferson, Adams and Witherspoon changed it to reflect the intent of the whole body and they used the Christian common law term 'pursuit of happiness" in place of property. While it certainly includes property, it is much more robust and expresses the Christian character of the conflict and the purpose of the separation.

So, you see, when the Founding Fathers appealled to the "law of nature and of nature's God" they appealed directly to the laws of God contained in the Holy Scripture.

This is the Sovereign over King George III and it is the Sovereign over the Constitution over the States and the United States as well. It is just as legally valid today with the protection of its legal Sovereignty as found in the First Amendment as it was in 1776.

I explained the matter quite plainly, maybe if you explained more of what you didn't understand about what I said I could clarify it for you.

As I stated, the Constitution does not exist in a legal vacuum - these were, after all, English Colonies separating themselves from a tyrant - not separating themselves from their heritage as English citizens under Magna Carta. Contrariwise, they appealed to that heritage and furthered it

The motto of the War for Independence was "No King but King Jesus", that was directed most poigently (sp?) against both King George III and the Pope, for the concept was a feudal application of Protestant theology flowing from Chalecdon through Lex Rex and Contra Tyrannos. That is to say, that only God is Sovereign and only His Son was King and High Priest of both state and Church, respectively. Hence, no king and no pope could claim divine rights.

YES, YES, YES...a Christian government is not one of an ecclesitical polity, but rather a FREE CHURCH - where neither Pope nor King is Head thereof - but Jesus Christ alone.

This requires conformity of law but an independence of state and church built upon an interdependenc of the legal Sovereignty. Without which, history proves, both Pope and King claim to be the Head of the Church and usurp that office to which Christ alone is appointed, whereby the Scripture says:

"Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec."

I'm not even gonna bother with the reasons why god/creator were deliberately left out of the U.S. Constitution despite threats of veto, pressure to do so, etc. etc.

Obviously those that founded this Nation knew what they were doing. There have been numerous attempts to add a "higher power" a "christian" doctrine into the U.S. Constitution and they all have failed - thankfully.

Well, it isn't. Jesus taught us that "man" isn't qualified to judge.

But, that doesn't stop it from happening. And it doesn't mean they aren't a Christian. It just means they've got "issues". I've always said, how in the world can churches expect to be effective when they can't agree among themselves what it is they believe. It gets complicated.

Still, no one is perfect. To "be a Christian", that simply means you accept the Gospel as "the truth" and you admit you are a sinner to God and you want to be forgiven. Pretty simple. Some Christian churches add to the rituals. I don't think it's necessary, but it's their choice. It meets some peoples' needs.

Some Christians choose to carry all sorts of extra baggage on the trip called life. Some believe themselves just a little closer to God than others.

Then there is the whole problem with "cults" among Christian churches. The best definition of "a cult" I've heard is any Christian organization that believes it has "exclusive access" to the truth. They believe that their group and ONLY their group has "the truth". For example, Baptists will accept that other denominiations are the real thing. So, they are not a cult.

I won't name names, but there are denominations that teach, "unless you are a member of our church, you aren't really a Christian". That is a cult.

But, back to Niceville. Jesus said, "everyone loves the people who are nice to them...I say..love your enemies"

He's not my enemy, and I choose to support him as a Christian.

And those are lovely, and important sentiments, Bill. But one must wonder if there is nothing more to Christianity then, than saying "I'm a Christian."

If there's no effort put forth to actually conform to Christ's teachings, indeed, if one so clearly takes relish in acting contrary to the philosophy, how can they reasonably call themselves "Christian"? Except in the most superficial sense?

Understand, I recognize the problem of the imperfection and sinfulness of man, and I accept it. But it is a different matter entirely when one does not struggle with becoming better, or with conforming to the morality of Christ, and instead, regularly, methodically tries to destroy those values, while claiming to be an adherent of Christianity. That's why i think many don't consider him Christian. And frankly, I think they're right, if "Christianity" is to mean anything at all.

I, for one, would consider it cheapening the faith to consider him Christian.

It's like calling Ramzi Bin al-Shibh or other terrorists "Muslim". He believes in killing anybody to get his way, and then says "it's for Allah." That's not Islam.

With all due respect Illbefrank...how do you know what's in someone's heart? How do you know if they struggle with comforming or have improved? Because they have continued the same path? I'm quite sure, we are in agreement, that we carry imperfection and sin, but to sit in judgement and claim to know what is in another's heart...THAT is what cheapens Christianity!

Did You ever take into account that Neither GOD nor Jesus Spake against Homosexuality. Sure it can be found in the Bible but in the New Testiment it was Paul statiung these things and in the Old Testiment it was someone else who spake against Homosexuality. The problem is the 'cause and effect' misunderstanding - these children have these traits because they are gay, the activities don't make them gay.

Rest assured as a child I engaged in these activities because I liked them better, not because I didn't have the opportunity to play with the boys. I can remember my dad's perplexed look when I'd ask "if these guys are my friends, then it doesn't matter if they win the game or I do, right? So why bother playing it at all?"
