Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, February 22, 2012

In the past month, 177 short-beaked common dolphins have beached themselves on Massachusetts's Cape Cod. Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare are working to rescue as many as possible from the thus-far unexplained beachings, but so far 124 have died. Many are being carried to deeper water and herded out of trouble by boats. "They're wild animals," said rescuer Katie Moore. "This is not comforting for them. They don't want to be touched."

I was going to post "Almost as smart as we are, my ass. Show me one example of 177 people running straight into the ocean and drowning."

Then I thought: I bet someone will find a link.....

So long and thanks for all the.......SHORE?! Oh shit!

Sully - I'm thinking of Somalis running towards the receding ocean in 2004..

recently happened in the Philippines as well (with dolphins):

FF. If you would have waited I'm sure one of the DR left would have found some way to blame it on some republican.

"Show me one example of 177 people running straight into the ocean and drowning"

Sounds like a metaphor for the Democratic National Convention.

So what kind of new sonar is the Navy testing?

I hope they at least used them for chum so they didn't die for nothing

They are calling it "Porpoise Kamikaze" for unrelated reasons.

I wonder if our Prozac contaminated tap tape water got leaked into to ocean... may cause thoughts of suicide.

you are right..... not the ocean, but there are many mass suicides. here's one well known one

I bet those dolphins and whales in Sea World are laughing their asses off while PETA is currently trying to free them as slaves.

You mean that Sea World cetaceans are safe from the Navy sonar? And that entire pods of their kind are being horrifically murdered makes those held in captivity pleased that some humans actually care?

On topic: nobody steps up. The Navy is a fucking disgrace.

The US Navy has no regard for our religion.

---Dolphins-----

RLR/Kanrei/Snoofy, do you see anywhere in the article where the Navy is even mentioned?

..researchers can offer only theories about things such as changes in weather, water temperature or behavior of the dolphins' prey.

The reason they're not talking the US Navy is because Wellfleet, MA is INSIDE Cape Cod Bay, DUMBASS(es). The nearest US Navy exercise area is well south of Long Island.

That is my point - the Navy are known to be the exclusive cause of this "phenomena".

Also, what you are told is a "testing area" is absolutely incorrect. These animals aren't just magically having their eardrums blown.

The Navy know about this damage and are purposefully targeting pods because they allegedly appear to be a military target. That is why the Navy is an abomination.

No, but I know they're implicated in these types of events.
And the Supreme Court upheld their right to use their secret sonar, even though the shockwave causes internal hemorrhaging, tissue damage, even death in marine life.

You don't think a 240 dB pulse originating south of Long Island propagates as far as Cape Cod? Then you're saying Navy sonar couldn't detect a Chicom sub at that range.

It's intrusive. Perhaps if they had something that differentiated the displacement vectors within specific regions of ocean - essentially watching the paths of anything moving. Do you imagine they could also differentiate between pods of dolphin and an object more massive, perhaps mechanical?

I really don't understand the callous military. Why are they unwilling to change to a less intrusive technology?!
