Weekly applications for unemployment benefits have dropped 13,000 to a "seasonally adjusted" total of 348,000, according to new Labor Department data reported Thursday. This decrease is the fourth in five weeks and represents the fewest number of claims since March 2008. AP reports that when applications drop consistently below 375,000, it usually signals hiring strong enough to lower the unemployment rate. "Most indicators are pointing in the same direction: a healthy job market," said economist Jeremy Lawson of BNP Paribas.
