When Colombian police found Rev. Rafael Reatiga and Rev. Richard Piffano shot dead in a car in Bogota they initially suspected robbery. Instead, prosecutors contend, the priests committed suicide by paying hitmen $8500 to kill them after at least one of the the clerics, a syphilitic, was diagnosed with AIDS.
The priests reportedly planned to jump off a cliff, but could not bring themselves to do it and hired four hitmen - two of whom have appeared in court - to do the job for them.
