Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Handing President Barack Obama a major legislative victory, House Republican leaders have done an about-face and said they will extend a payroll tax cut for 160 million working Americans without insisting it be paid for with spending cuts. Obama has made the extension an issue since December. "This is not our first choice," said House Speaker John A. Boehner (R) in a statement with his leadership team, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield).

Must be an election year.

But don't call them hypocrites.

Great news! Keep the recovery going. John Boehner is doing the right thing for the country this time.

Danni,

When Bush pushed for and ultimately achieved temporary tax rebates you screamed like a banshee.

Why the about face now?

John Boehner is doing the right thing for the country this time.

It has nothing to do with him being up for re-election.

I am sure Agent Orange will hold many campaign rallies citing how extending the tax cut was "The right thing to do for the country" from now until November, then flop back onto the screw the middle class platform he championed last year.

It has nothing to do with him being up for re-election.

What's the matter bitch? Did your Husband re-gift a Whitman Sampler for Valentines Day again?

Where's the outrage? Where's the beef? Where are all those teabaggers who have railed endlessly about obama?

I suppose Rush Limbaugh has ordered them that this is a non-issue and they should no longer talk about it, lest they upset the GOP master plan.

Where's the outrage? Where's the beef? Where's the votes?

Where's the votes?

Votes schmotes. You don't need votes when you have the full force of the 1% behind you. This is what most ignorant americans can't seem to get into their thick skulls. Those faces that occupy seats in our gov'ts are picked from a list of non-persons who will sell their own mothers to be a part of the 1%.

Obama was able to get his HC plan passed because of it. Ron Paul will not be elected because of it. there will be no campaign finance laws because of it. the deficit will never be addressed properly because of it (it is to the 1%'s advantage to run a federal deficit).

The reason I am picking on the teabaggers is because they unwittingly are huge tools for the 1%.

as usual Danni is for tax cuts until she is against them- must be tough to wake up every morning and run to huffpo to see how you feel about a subject. typical democrat.

"When Bush pushed for and ultimately achieved temporary tax rebates you screamed like a banshee."

Perhaps it's my age but I don't remember that, when he mailed us each a check that was actually just a loan that we had to pay back I remember thinking it was a scam though.

"as usual Danni is for tax cuts until she is against them-"

No, as usual, Danni is for tax cuts for people who will spend the money in the economy which rich folks have shown they don't do when their taxes were cut. When the money is actually spent it helps create demand and thus jobs. Danni isn't so intellectually dishonest that she has to pretend not to know that like Kersh does.

There's the reason for Wis's defensiveness this morning.

Wisser is just pissed his party which despite the promised cuts to entitlements has turned tail and ran in the spectre of re-election policy failures.

Don't Wissy, they will be back to the good ole screw the middle class oppose Obama policies next January.

No, as usual, Danni is for tax cuts for people who will spend the money in the economy which rich folks have shown they don't do when their taxes were cut.

Yeah, you can tell who the rich folks are. They look like they just spent 3 years dinning at Auschwitz.

Someone has sand in his vag.

Yeah, based on posts 1,4 and 5, Fiddle-fuck.

Someone has sand in his vag.

Wussy has had sand in his vag fer so long now it's amazing he doesn't piss pearls.

Yeah, you can tell who the rich folks are. They look like they just spent 3 years dinning at Auschwitz.

Studies have shown that giving tax cuts to the already wealthy doesn't increase GDP as they tend to invest that money rather than spend it.

Give a little more money to the poor and they will spend it, increasing the demand part of the economy that the GOPhers tend to forget about it.

Be Well.

Perhaps it's my age but I don't remember that, when he mailed us each a check that was actually just a loan that we had to pay back I remember thinking it was a scam though.

except you haven't been asked to pay for anything. Instead, you are being given yet another check in the mail in the form of this payroll tax cut extension.

At least you admit you didn't like it when Bush did it. It was a "loan" and a "scam".

Now, it's, "Great news!"

LOL

Studies have shown...
#19 | Posted by dethspud

Yeah, those Media Matters studies are gospel.

This of course is coming from the mind which thinks banks are getting free money from the Gov, but don't have to pay it back...

"Eberly doesn't even know what the difference is."

other than your rank partisnship, what other difference exists?

neither are accompanied with a corresponding spending cut.

which, IMO, is the only troublesome piece of this.

you pretend to forget danni, you considered Bush's tax rebate a "vote buying scam".

now, it's a "brilliant political move".

you guys slay me. I love it.

as far as the payroll tax cut extension goes.....I'm good with it.

As long as Danni gets a taste, she's completely partisan.

"As long as Danni gets a taste, she's completely partisan."

And Wisgod is the unbiased, not-partisan poster here.

Is this the Bush tax cuts that destroyed the economy or is this the Obama tax cuts that saved the economy?

Headline should read, "More cuts in SS funding"

"Is this the Bush tax cuts that destroyed the economy or is this the Obama tax cuts that saved the economy?"

Let me make it simple for you. Obama mostly cut taxes on working class people; Bush mostly cut taxes on rich people. Working class folks spend the money they save in tax cuts which helps the economy; Rich folks just put the money with all their other money that they aren't spending.

Great news! Keep the recovery going. John Boehner is doing the right thing for the country this time.

Recovery my ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There ain't no recovery. Bonner is just a dem lite.

"Headline should read, "More cuts in SS funding"

Yeah, now we'll have to pay the government's bills from income taxes like we were supposed to be doing all along.

Keep hoping for a bad economy like a good Republican.

You're right. I never pissed and moaned about my children and grandchildren paying for this stupidity while holding my hand out like you are.

And the reduction in SS witholding isn't?

You do need to clean the lint from your navel so your outlook on life isn't so fuzzy.

"let me deflect some for you. these tax cuts are of the exact same nature but I have to pretend I am a proponent of this while being againt that and, at the same time, pretend I'm not a 100% partisan hack"

ft

BFD They are talking about $12 in peoples pockets and they are wasting their time with this penny anty crap when the Country has not had a budget for over 1000 days.

CHUMP CHANGE BULL SHIT!

Where is the BUDGET???

This is the most Irresponsible House and Senate we have EVER had.

Where is the BUDGET???

Let me make it simple for you. Obama mostly cut taxes on working class people; Bush mostly cut taxes on rich people.

#29 | Posted by danni

Let me make this clear to you dan. little o's tax cuts were just an extension of the Bush tax cuts. It was a tax cut stgraight across the board for everyone.

-Headline should read, "More cuts in SS funding"

If Bush had done this, that is EXACTLY what the headline would have been.

Why wouldn't we want to borrow money right now? If we can borrow at less than one percent and inflation is at three percent or higher it looks like a win situation to me. I wish I could get that kind of deal personally.

I hope they eliminate they Bush Tax cuts altogether. Obama wants everyone to pay thier fair share. I agree. Time for those who don't pay any taxes to start ponying up. People in the lower brackets will be most affected by the elimination of the cuts. Not to mention that those at the top will either 1) adjust thier cost of doing busines (hiring) to account for it or 2)will just sit tight and ride out the storm. You see, the reason that those with money are not investing is that they don't TRUST the Obama Administration. People only invest when they trust the people they are investing in. Even many of his own cronies pulled thier money out when he got elected. No investment may = no profit. But it also = no taxes. And it also means no loss and no having to deal with over regulation which in a lot of cases eats up the profit anyway. When investors start to trust again, they will again begin to invest. My guess....2016.

Honestly it just doesn't seem fair that it is always the middle class which gets the tax cuts. What about those of us not in the middle class who pay the most in taxes?

Great news! Keep the recovery going. John Boehner is doing the right thing for the country this time.

#2 | Posted by danni at 2012-02-14 08:03 AM

What will the government say when people realize that the SS checks are going to be smaller?

Let's see, SS is taken out pre-tax, the $40 extra the President says will be on everyones paycheck is taxed. So, what is the actual net gain?

#41 | Posted by bogey1355 at 2012-02-14 01:04 PM

Agreed, eliminate obummers tax cuts all together.

"Let's see, SS is taken out pre-tax..."

Let's see: wrong again.

I am sure Agent Orange will hold many campaign rallies citing how extending the tax cut was "The right thing to do for the country" from now until November, then flop back onto the screw the middle class platform he championed last year.

#5 | Posted by 726

Also it will have been his idea all along of course....until he flops back into screw mode.

And I luv "Agent Orange"...nice job...LOL. Gonna put that one in me pockets for later!

Less money going to Social Security and Medicare, more money kept for myself.

Glad to see so many libbies climbing on the tax cuts bandwagon. This is a nice development. Maybe one day they'll even be able to articulate an opinion that doesn't come straight out of the bowels of MSNBC, or their messiah himself. The Great Barack Hussein Obama. ((And--yes--when I typed those words, I was in a kneeling position, hands clasped in prayer. It wasn't easy at all. So no need to notify the Truth Squads.))

Republicans might be figuring Obama will hit the debt ceiling again before election. The last we heard, it was upped to $16.4 trillion.

When Bush pushed for and ultimately achieved temporary tax rebates you screamed like a banshee.

Why the about face now?

Wrong.

So wrong.

This payroll tax cut should have never been allowed to happen in the first place.

So you have a fund that has already been damn near looted to extinction, and this same fund is going to have to cover even more millions of people reaching eligibility in the form of the boomers. So the response is, well, let's cut the amount of money going into the fund that was already looted. Well ain't that just frakkin' perfect. Have the folk feel all good about themselves 'cause they got a whole 20 to 50 bucks a month to spend. WOW!!!! So when you and I and the rest who will soon enough reach eligibility, all those thousands that were extorted from us over the years will not be there because the fund wasn't adequately replenished.

Great Plan there. Are you happy you are so easily duped? Because you have been and are, Big Time. Or maybe you're so dupable you really can't see it.

SS should have kept up with the times. It didn't. SS should be phased out: those who have paid in should get their just due and the young, whining puppies out there can opt to not have their monies extorted from them for the rest of their lives.

But noooooooo!!!!! Let's choose the most asinine thing we can do.

Good Job!

Godwin rules, Wissy!

Less money going to Social Security and Medicare, more money kept for myself.

Talk yer shit when you're 70 years old going on decrepit and broken, and dementia is setting in.

So, are you gonna have the funds to pay for your own personal health insurance when you are 70 years old going on decrepit and broken, and dementia is setting in? Because it is gonna cost a small fortune each month. Not counting deductibles and co-pays. Might as well buy a single shot pistola or take a one-way cruise.

Let's see: wrong again.

#45 | Posted by Danforth at 2012-02-14 01:14 PM

I stand corrected

Glad to see so many libbies climbing on the tax cuts bandwagon. This is a nice development. Maybe one day they'll even be able to articulate an opinion that doesn't come straight out of the bowels of MSNBC, or their messiah himself.

Before the payroll tax cut was put in place last year, most lefties here were suggesting that we raise the cap on income or take the cap away altogether. SS was being starved on purpose so it fails.

Now look at them. They are wrapping their arms around a CUT.

and yet they'll continue to tell you how "independently" minded the are on issues and they are above being influenced by the huff post or other news outlets.

LOL

Given that this is a deficit increasing tax break not covered by reduced spending elsewhere, the teabaggers should be up in arms. That is, if they expect to be believed as to being anything more than a wholey owned subsidiary of RNC Inc.

But given CPAP's endorsement of the Massy Moderate, nobody believes conservatives to be anything other than republicans too embarrassed to admit they voted for Dubya.

Great news! Keep the recovery going. John Boehner is doing the right thing for the country this time.

All tax relief is not created equal."

--Eric Cantor

"The increase in take-home pay would spur additional spending by the households receiving the higher income, and that higher spending would, in turn, increase production and employment," the Congressional Budget Office.

By contrast, the Bush Error Tax cuts (which offered the biggest benefits by far to people at the very top -- especially the top 1 percent of income earners) would not be spent but reinvested or saved as they have no pressing need to spend it thus has no positive effect on the economy and is a negative drag on the budget.

Politicians are out to privatize social security. What better way to make it happen than to defund it?

Brilliant, actually.

And those that oppose privatization cheer it on.

Pathetic, but funny.

I bet Obama could get even more votes if they voted for a 5 percent reduction in the payroll tax.

Does anyone realize that your SS check every month depends on how much YOU put into SS?

Does anyone realize that your SS check every month depends on how much YOU put into SS?

#62 | Posted by Sniper

Doesn't it depend on how much you earned and if you paid into it for the required amount of years. Once you met those requirements then your monthly check would be based on how much you earned ...not how much you actually put into the system.

Nope.

Studies have shown that giving tax cuts to the already wealthy doesn't increase GDP as they tend to invest that money rather than spend it.

Give a little more money to the poor and they will spend it, increasing the demand part of the economy that the GOPhers tend to forget about it.

where do they invest- someone works there- that business then supports countless other related businesses- you really are clueless to how everything works arent you? the businesses that receive the funds- they dont use the money to grow, expand, purchase additional resources used to generate additional profits creating more jobs.
