Asked by CNN to defend the Senate's refusal to pass a budget in more than 1,000 days, White House chief of staff Jack Lew said, "You can't pass a budget in the Senate of the United States without 60 votes and you can't get 60 votes without bipartisan support. So unless Republicans are willing to work with Democrats in the Senate, [Majority Leader] Harry Reid is not going to be able to get a budget passed." As Jake Tapper points out, budgets only require 51 votes for passage.

How did Obama do with his promise to cut the deficits in half by the end of this 4 years?

Obama budget chief ignorant of budget process

Another thread about the budget. Looks like ASSHOUSE is worried his government pension check will come late.

I am surprised no Pub has gone to the supreme dorks to make the Congress follow the Constitutional requirement for a budget that originates in the House. I suspect they want to keep this going either to set a precedent they can abuse or make it an election issue.

Each year, the President of the United States submits his budget request to Congress for the following fiscal year as required by the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921. Current law (31 U.S.C. § 1105(a)) requires the president to submit a budget no earlier than the first Monday in January, and no later than the first Monday in February. Typically, presidents submit budgets on the first Monday in February. The budget submission has been delayed, however, in some new presidents' first year when previous president belonged to a different party.

What would you like to talk about? Bobby Brown's loss?

How about we talk about that new movement where 'small government' conservatives refuse to cash any checks they get from the government before whining about the deficit?

That is a good point. We should talk about that and all individuals in politics (republican or democrat) taking money from organizations or practices that they claim to disagree with and disavow.

What a dummy this Obama is!

He should have put a guy in charge of putting on horse shows to run this office....and another guy who did the same thing to run FEMA.

common common common

well played...ASSHOLE... :)

of course your comment has nothing to do with this particular member of the obama team BUT if you are okay with comparing OBAMA AND BUSH...well go right ahead but I have a feeling the libfux and dems wont like it much. :)

That's OK, so is everyone who voted for Obama.

He didn't just make the mistake once either. It was not a misstatement. It was ignorance.

I'm guessing that you're referring to another stupid President who made other stupid decisions. The old "THEY ARE STUPID TOO SO IT'S OKAY THAT MY GUY IS STUPID" routine. That'll get you far in life, CommonDense.

Apparently everyone has greatly under estimated how stupid Obama and his advisors really are.

I never misunderestimated how stupid this entire administration are.

You don't just mispeak twice on this issue. The Obama Adminstration is clearly attempting to mislead the masses....again....by passing blame rather than a budget.

We have a dictator in the White House

Chief if staff is stoopid. The senate did vote on one of little o's budgets and it got NO votes from anybody.

How about we talk about that new movement where 'small government' conservatives refuse to cash any checks they get from the government before whining about the deficit?

They're stupid. It's only a matter of time before DC runs out of credit. It's not their money anyway; it belongs to taxpayers. Get it while it lasts.

I love how rcade changes the headline to suit himself and his ideology.

Actual headline read "WH Chief of Staff Errs on Senate Budget Rules"

Yes, that must be what I was saying. One, after all, had a press secretary who stated the incorrect number of votes, the other, ran FEMA and dropped the ball horribly, costing lives.

....but sure, go on and tell yourself they're the same thing.

#19 | Posted by COMMONSENSE at 2012-02-14 11:12 AM | Reply | Flag:

No, he didn't just state the incorrect number of votes. He stated an incorrect understanding of the process. And he stated it multiple times.

57 states... 60 votes... Who's counting?

The only thing that would make his statement true was if O'Bugger was the most polarizing president in history, and we all know that's not true since he said he campaigned on reaching across the isle.

57 states with 2 to go. And they won't let me go to another 2. little berry dosen't even know what country he is in.

The last time the Senate passed a budget was on April 29, 2009.
Since that date, the federal government has spent $9.4 trillion, adding $4.1 trillion in debt [annual interest payments on the debt now exceed $200 billion].
As of January 20, the outstanding public debt stands at $15,240,174,635,409.
Interest payments on the debt are now more than $200 billion per year.
President Obama proposed a FY2012 budget last year, and the Senate voted it down 97â€"0. (And that budget was no prizeâ€"according to the Congressional Budget Office, that proposal never had an annual deficit of less than $748 billion, would double the national debt in 10 years and would see annual interest payments approach $1 trillion per year.)
The Senate rejected House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (Râ€"WI) budget by 57â€"40 in May 2011, with no Democrats voting for it.
In FY2011, Washington spent $3.6 trillion. Compare that to the last time the budget was balanced in 2001, when Washington spent $1.8 trillion ($2.1 trillion when you adjust for inflation).
Entitlement spending will more than double by 2050. That includes spending on Medicare, Medicaid and the Obamacare subsidy program, and Social Security. Total spending on federal health care programs will triple.
By 2050, the national debt is set to hit 344 percent of Gross Domestic Product.
Taxes paid per household have risen dramatically, hitting $18,400 in 2010 (compared with $11,295 in 1965). If the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts expire and more middle-class Americans are required to pay the alternative minimum tax (AMT), taxes will reach unprecedented levels.
Federal spending per household is skyrocketing. Since 1965, spending per household has grown by nearly 162 percent, from $11,431 in 1965 to $29,401 in 2010. From 2010 to 2021, it is projected to rise to $35,773, a 22 percent increase.

....but sure, go on and tell yourself they're the same thing.

I didn't say they're the same. Just that you're willing to accept stupidity today because of stupidity yesterday. Whether there is "less" stupidity is irrelevant - these people should be the best and brightest. If you have low expectations for the people running the United States, that's your problem.

They only need a majority to pass the budget, not 60 votes

President Obama proposed a FY2012 budget last year, and the Senate voted it down

so .... the President DID submit a budget.

And Congress failed to pass it.

#26 | Posted by donnerboy at 2012-02-14 01:58 PM | Reply | Flag:

No, they didn't fail to pass the budget submitted. The president failed to submit a viable budget to be passed.

Here is what his newest budget tells us:

The Cost of Obama
www.weeklystandard.com

"According to the White House's own figures (see table S-1 here for 2011 to 2013, and table S-1 here for 2010), the actual or projected deficit tallies for the four years in which Obama has submitted budgets are as follows: $1.293 trillion in 2010, $1.300 trillion in 2011, $1.327 trillion in 2012, and $901 billion in 2013. In addition, Obama is responsible for the estimated $200 billion (the Congressional Budget Office's figure) that his economic "stimulus" added to the deficit in 2009. Moreover, he shouldn't get credit for the $149 billion in TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) repayments made in 2010 and 2011 to cover most of the $154 billion in bank loans that remained unpaid at the end of the 2009 fiscal year - loans that count against President Bush's 2009 deficit tally.

Adding all of this up, deficit spending during Obama's four years in the White House (based on his own figures) will be an estimated $5.170 trillion - or $5,170,000,000,000.00.

To help put that colossal sum of money into perspective, if you take our deficit spending under Obama and divide it evenly among the roughly 300 million American citizens, that works out to just over $17,000 per person - or about $70,000 for a family of four."

Don't forget to view the graph that shows the deficit spending as % of GDP... it is a doozy.

And Congress failed to pass it.

#26 | POSTED BY DONNERBOY AT 2012-02-14 01:58 PM

So you are saying that a Democratic President won't go to his Democratic senate majority leader and give a budget he at least "thinks" will be passed? How stupid is that?! What a waste of time and resources. It's clear that the president knew that it wouldn't pass.

When it was time to pass Obama's healthcare, there were numerous meetings with the democratic leaders from both houses. Why not put the same effort into a budget? Wait on it.... Because it's a political sci-fy show!

I never misunderestimated how stupid this entire administration are.

#14 | POSTED BY JUSTANOVERSIGHT AT 2012-02-14 10:18 AM | REPLY | FLAG:

Priceless.

The president failed to submit a viable budget to be passed.

He fullfilled his requirement under the Budget and Accounting Act.

Sec. 1105. Budget contents and submission to Congress

-STATUTE-
(a) On or after the first Monday in January but not later than
the first Monday in February of each year, the President shall
submit a budget of the United States Government for the following
fiscal year.

Unless you want to tell us how many submitted budgets are passed without any modifications.

By 2050, the national debt is set to hit 344 percent of Gross Domestic Product.

2050? Go back and see how the 2010 budget forecast from 2000 compares to actual results and you want to look into the future 40 years?

He fullfilled his requirement under the Budget and Accounting Act.

3 of his 4 budgets were presented after the deadline, this one included.

But he violates the Constitution all of the time, so missing the deadline on the Budget Act is small potatoes.

As Jeff pointed out, it appears you can't even read your own posted information.

"not later than the first Monday in February of each year..."

OOPS. There goes your hope of joining the "truth team".

So you are saying that a Democratic President won't go to his Democratic senate majority leader and give a budget he at least "thinks" will be passed? How stupid is that?! What a waste of time and resources. It's clear that the president knew that it wouldn't pass.

Of course it is a waste of time. You don't get it yet do you?

It is not up to the President to pass it and it is not up to the Democrats to pass it. It is up to Congress.

Nothing the President puts forward will be passed in Congress. You realize this of course and yet you act like you don't. Grow up and smell the stench emanating from Washington. Congress has become completely dysfunctional.

And I am sorry to inform you of this...It is only going to get worse up and until and even after the elections.

We haven't seen nothing yet. Wait until we get to the next deficit ceiling fight. I hear the last one was a walk in the park compared to the next one due about next January.

Nothing the President puts forward will be passed in Congress.

Because bho refuses to compromise! Then he says Congress is broken! Which is code for saying he's a horrible leader and can't even get his own party in the Senate to pass his budget! And now they repeat lies, pretending that they are being factual. Dumbing down America. Say a lie enough and people, like here at the dr left, believe it!

After all when they held majority in all of Congress they didn't pass a budget? Why is that??

Seeing bho has fully rejected bowles simpson...HIS OWN DEFICIT committee, the four pinnochios are rolling out for this fib!

Because bho refuses to compromise! Then he says Congress is broken!

umm sure right. Barack even compromises with himself. When Barack compromises the WingNuts call him weak. When he compromises they take it as a sign of weakness and just ask for more, more, more. The time for Compromise is now over. Has been over for years.

After all when they held majority in all of Congress they didn't pass a budget? Why is that??

The Stupid is strong in this one OB1.

Donner.. Obama doesnt even need all the democrats to vote for it. Why not just take a shit on a piece of paper and send it to the Senate to get it passed. It would save the tax payers a lot of money with the same results.

We should talk about that and all individuals in politics (republican or democrat) taking money from organizations or practices that they claim to disagree with and disavow.

#7 | Posted by ExpsRedemption

So we talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and talk some more. I'll bet we just fixed that shit.

#37 In other words you don't have any bloody idea why they haven't passed a budget, and you are left with insulting someone else for your own lack of ideas!

Dave, I wouldn't worry about Donner .. He doesn't even know how many votes it takes to pass a budget so all he can do is attack for no reason.
