It's real folks. Ask any food bank if they have enough donations to handle demand and you will hear a resounding no. Our local 9/12 group is working on programs to support our local food bank. Major grocery stores generally have internal programs to benefit the food bank. Here Wegman's asks you if you want to donate to the food bank when they give you your change back or pay by credit card. They then supply the food bank with what the food bank need at their cost. Meals on Wheel is another great program.

Ask any food bank if they have enough donations to handle demand and you will hear a resounding no.

This is a result of the policy of wages as a commodity.

The local schools in our area have been making the local food bank the charity of choice for the last two years. Last year over $5000 of food was collected, that covered two weeks of need. This year through car washes and fundraisers $7500 of supermarket gift cards were given to them. Again far short of the demand.

Well Prick Scott did it and found out drug use was 2%, they saved $40,000 at the cost to the taxpayers of $500,000 for the testing.

I'm helping work on a local program we call "grow a row for the needy" We are going to try to coordinate with local gardeners and growers for farmers markets to plant durable vegetables and fruits to distribute through the food bank program. One of the biggest issues food banks have is that they get swamped during November/December (Thanksgiving and Christmas) and the rest of the months everybody forgets about them.

As people move off of the welfare rolls, new people move on all the time. The state is pissing away money testing since 98% of applicants are not using drugs and therefore a) not denied benefits and b) reimbursed by the state for the cost of the test.

Prick Scott knew what this was... crony capitalism and a handout to the testing industry of which he owns a part in.

In this case the moron ignores the threads on ths subject and relies on his own stupidity instead of facts. 1) only 2/3'rds actually tested in that misleading 98% who were clean. 2) It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out those who knew they were dirty never bothered to take the test, and won't or will wait until they can pass. 3) that 2% rejected is still cheaper to the state than reimbursing the 98% who were clean.

The poor just get laughed at by the conservatives on this blog. I donate some of my check through the union to different charities. It is optional and I'm sure a lot of people don't participate. The only way to really help the poor is through forced redistribution of wealth. Otherwise a man like glasshouse will never help the poor.

Not anymore than the lazy losers who never should have been parents, and don't even bother to sign up for the hundreds of available programs set up for the kids. I read less than 60% are actually taking advantage of them such as SCHIP and similar programs combined, yet we spend billions funding them every year....

you might be surprised to know you need a phone for things like getting a job or emergency's or to get some government help you can get a cheap cell phone buy time on a card if you get the right plan you can get roll over minutes if you do it right and do not use up your minutes on long calls it can be cheaper then a home phone even if you do not have any minutes you still can call 911.

I bought 1 car for fifty bucks that ran for years the person just wanted it out of the drive way another for 500 hundred you know cars are great if you are looking for jobs and you do not have to wake up early to catch a bus so you do not arrive tired for your interview or work one of the things about being poor is how much time all the BS you have to do is taken up.
