Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Monday, February 13, 2012

On a night full of tributes to Whitney Houston, Adele thanked her doctors "who brought my voice back" as she accepted one of her six Grammy awards Sunday night. Adele, who underwent surgery for "recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage" in November, sang "Rolling In The Deep," ending speculation about her recovery. Jennifer Hudson performed the Houston song "I Will Always Love You" at the end of the traditional Grammy segment honoring those who died in the previous year.

LOL

Never saw Bruno Mars perform before. Does he always have a horn section? That was good.

For most ridiculous dumps suddenly meted out on an old thread that hasn't existed for the past 36 hours....

Rogers Cadenhead!

For gratuitous use of racial and religious pejoratives ... The Grammy goes to ...

Coldplay was a bit of a beating.

for most off-key patriotic singer- Wild Willard Rmoney.

Rogers, I don't think most Retorters share your enthusiasm for the 'Grammys'...

What was your first clue?

The crickets chirping.

Lol, it's not too late to catch the last half of the Outsiders on Encore family.

The Grammys suck.

I've never liked award shows, too much glad handing and self congratulations.

The Screamies are the best of the genre.

and then they swallow...more seed than Corky at a Greco-Roman bathhouse.

Cherry Valance is still hot.

"Rogers, I don't think most Retorters share your enthusiasm for the 'Grammys'..."

Don't believe it, the Grammy's are awesome! Thanks for the thread.

We should have "The Drudgies" once a year.

With a live webcast.

With your middle-aged host in his browline eyeglasses and salt and pepper hair....

mmmm...

Taylor Swift mugged Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Other than hoping Katy Perry has a wardrobe malfunction while the mute button is on...what's the big deal.

Danni how big are your knockers?

How were the Penn brothers and Kevin Bacon left out of the Outsiders?

Taylor Swift displays real talent and real class, I love her. (in a very age respective, completely appropriate way).

I have trouble sometimes remembering there's a singer attached to Katy Perry's boobs.

Stay gold Katy Perry's boobs, stay gold.....

Katy Perry transcends your sexual fantasies (as well as feeds into them) and is a fantastic performer that women love.

*yawn*

Not even close.

Katy Perry transcends your sexual fantasies (as well as feeds into them) and is a fantastic performer that women love.(also in a very age respective, completely appropriate way).

I barely know who Katy Perry is, without her boobs, I wouldn't know who she is at all.

Don't like pop, but Perry's fun.

Talk about gold, you should have seen 60 Minutes tonight, feature about gold in India and quite obviously a warning to America, we don't want to be a society so divided by wealth inequality, before you decide you disagree see the episode. I don't think most Americans want to live in a world like that but that is what we are heading for.

Adel is great. It wrong but looking at her I can not help but find myself thinking of Lulu.

I almost forgot that Johnny and Dallas die at the end.

Adelle is timeless. Reminds me of fellow decade mismatches Amy Winehouse and Norah Jones.

Say! A Wedding on Walton Mountain is on!

I don't have cable out here on the perimeter.
This is good.

Katy Perry grew up in a religious household that discouraged many forms of fun. Her career is, in many ways, a reaction to that upbringing. Some might say 'over-reaction'. Her brand of pop music is pure vapid fun with a beat you can dance to.

Spud's a fan.

Poor Adele. Tonight was supposed to be her night to clean up and be the primadona but Whitney Houston's untimely death upstaged her.

All she needed was Kanye on stage to make it perfect.

"Excuse me Adele, I'mma let you finish but Whitney Houston..."

That all noted, aside from the whole incredibly talented thing Katy Perry also has some seriously nice boobage going on.

You really can't over-state how nice they are.

Seriously.

Be Well.

I think we have talked Katy Perrys boobs to death, what do you all think of her beaver?

Au natural or shaved? Maybe she is sporting a trimmed look.....

Zat reminds me of Zebulon Walton only angryier..

Agreed Spud, Katy is great.

You got to love Adele's curves however.

Glenn Campbell has stones to do an Alzheimer's farewell tour. At the end of his performance he asked, "do I go somewhere or shut up?"

You got to love Adele's curves however.

Agreed.

Curves...

Real women haz 'em!

Yum.

Be Well.

Did Tony Bennett beat Seth Macfarlane? Curses!

Did Skrillex win anything?

Glenn Campbell has stones to do an Alzheimer's farewell tour.

Agreed.

Apparently the family's thinking on that was that it was better to have the information out there in the open rather than have people show up at the shows and wonder if Glenn was drunk or back on the drugs.

Here's a little blurb about Glenn thoughts on performing at the Grammys and doing so live for the first time since his diagnosis.

"...Still on the line".

Be Well.

Erin Walton is HOT.

I want to go back to 1984 and have a 3 way with Cherry Valance and Erin Walton.

Zat, build me a time machine....quick.

It's refreshing to see a talented singer/songwriter like Adela make such a splash. I hope her being the top selling artist of 2011 wakes up record labels to the fact most people like good songs and talented artists and will buy their CD's.

"MTV killed the radio star" is the truth. Looks are not talent.

Adela=Adele (should't watch TV while typing)

Alright. Record of The Year goes to Adele. Someone with talent wins. Great!

Hey Adam Morrison is a star again....He is ripping it up for Beskitas, a pro team in Turkey.

22 pts 8 rbs game

I just know this is the year Pat boone will get the recognition he deserves.....

And Adele wins Album of the Year. Talent wins. Yeah!

What a close to the awards, Sir Paul. Great show this year.

what do you all think of her beaver?

Dunno about her beaver but her pussy is real hairy.

And called "Kitty Purry"

Seriously, how cute is that?

Be Well.

And Adele wins Album of the Year. Talent wins. Yeah!

That was a lock.

Still, it makes a nice change to see a lady pop star who doesn't have to run around in the shower in order to get wet and who isn't auto-tuned beyond recognition or a depressing, downward-spiraling, hot mess like Amy Winehouse/Whitney Houston.

Nice to see her get a little love from her peers here.

Be Well.

I just know this is the year Pat boone will get the recognition he deserves....

Best Metal Act?

Be Well.

Ya, Spud

She sang really well live tonight. Like great artists can do.

I hope the record execs in the U.S. wake up a little and start signing talent instead of looks. I seriously doubt Adele would have been signed by a U.S. label. The Brits still like their talented musicians. Kudos to whoever took the chance and signed her.

PS Clive Davis and Jennifer Hudson are on Pierce Morgan on CNN now. Clive's the guy who signed Whitney Houston as his first act on Arista. What a signing that turned out to be. He'd recently been fired as President of Columbia Records. Boy, did he show them!! 170,000,000 albums by Whitney later. And, that's just for starters. What a great 'record man' he is.

I'm mistaken. Barry Manilow was the first signing by Clive on Arista, Whitney the next.

Barry Manilow was the first signing by Clive on Arista ...

1 minute after his Columbia contract ran out

I read somewhere Clive signed Whitney Houston several years before her first album was released. Sent her to get vocal coaching and let her grow up a bit. She was introduced to Clive by her cousin, Dionne Warwick.

I hope the record execs in the U.S. wake up a little and start signing talent instead of looks.

Spud too.

I seriously doubt Adele would have been signed by a U.S. label.

Sadly, this is true.

Kudos to whoever took the chance and signed her.

Couldn't agree more.

Spud remembers back to an old interview with one of Frank Zappa "Mothers of Invention" talking about joining the band back in the day. Can't remember who it was who was being interviewed but they said they basically we're introduced to Frank who immediately asked them to perform and to do something on their instrument that nobody else in the world could do as well as them.

And he did.

And then he was in the band.

No "show me your publicity stills" or "can you dance?" just "are you a real musician with genuine talent?".

Good times, good times.

Be Well.

...her cousin, Dionne Warwick.

Damn, forgot she was Whitney's cousin.

Also had some mad skillz, that lady.

"I Say a Little Prayer"

Be Well.

SPUD

In what's become a 'singles oriented' (song singles) music biz labels would be wise to start signing talented singer/songwriters, not based on their looks. Maybe they'd actually start selling millions of records per artist again.

Adele's proof that if all if not most of the songs on a CD are good people respond and buy it.

The reason it's a singles oriented business now is because people got tired of buying a CD after hearing a single, then feeling burned the rest of the CD was garbage. Add the birth of broadband and labels were stuck in the hole they dug.

Adele's sold over 10 million CD's of '21' worldwide so far. It used to be many artists would sell that many. It isn't just the internet and iTunes that changed the biz IMO. It was equally label execs signing artists based on looks with talent secondary that led to the downfall of the record business. Autotune and computer recording enabled barely talented but good looking artists to have careers they would never have had if not for them.

There are so many unsigned acts that are incredible I know about who can't get signed because they're 25, not 18 or 19. With looks too. That's the current pitiful state of the U.S. record biz, and why I got into doing movie music and working with European artists.

Look what happens when a solid actual artist who can sing live and has great songs comes out. They sell. Even "Brother, Where Art Thou" sold 14 million copies in the U.S. Mostly to teenagers who wanted to hear something that sounds authentic and real, not manufactured. Bluegrass at that.

I have trouble sometimes remembering there's a singer attached to Katy Perry's boobs.

The irony of her parents being evangelical preachers isn't lost on me ... The quintessential 'preacher's kid' who took the opposite road from her parents. Katy learned the 'licentious' and 'lascivious' lessons very, very well.

Adele rocks. Foo Fighters rock. Sir Paul can still rock...loved the Golden Slumbers-Carry that Weight-The End with Joe Walsh and Dave Grohl jamming.

Nikki Minaj=WTF?

Nikki Minaj's Anton LaVey number was a bit odd.

What I saw of 'em, the Grammys were less sucky than usual this year. The Beach Boys looked a bit lifeless, but what do you expect? Brian Wilson is old and still a bit off -- too long in the sandbox, I suspect. But Adele is seriously talented, so that's a good thing.

Taylor Swift sounded the best she's ever sounded live. Which, of course, means she was lip syncing because she sounds terrible live.

And someone mentioned she looked classy... she was dressed like she lived in in the mountains... not sure your definition of classy.

"Taylor Swift sounded the best she's ever sounded live. Which, of course, means she was lip syncing because she sounds terrible live"

I don't think she lip syncs. She is actually talented.

Best acceptance speech ever, Dave Grohl

www.youtube.com

Best live performance...at age 69. Love the jam at the end

www.youtube.com

Dave Grohl gives a heartfelt speech on how music is still about singers doing real singing, musicians playing real instruments and not just computers, then his speech is cut off by an LMFAO song. Ouch.

I liked the Grammys. Music's at an unusual point right now. So many different styles and classic old-school performers like Adele are popular. Aside from some really bad hip hop and dance music, and a weird turn into a dusty old standard by Paul McCartney, it was pretty good.

The real question is, did danforth's new friend get nominated for a fourth grammy...

Investigators will find that the producers of the Grammy's killed Whitney Houston for the publicity and the tributes.

"Investigators will find that the producers of the Grammy's killed Whitney Houston for the publicity and the tributes."

Does seem a bit odd they still had the pre Grammy party a few floors from her suite, and the body wasn't even cold yet...

People were arriving for that pre-Grammy party as news was first filtering out about her death.

I have not watched the Grammy's in probably 20 years. Too much rap crap.

But the singers that were going to be on the show looked pretty good. And I really like Adele.

Then Whitney Houston died and she was such a classy lady. Her personal life was a train wreck--but she could really sing.

So the show was surprisingly fantastic.

Never heard of Bruno Mars--he looks and dances so similar to Michael Jackson (young Michael).

Bon Ivar--misfit from WI--reminded me of Ross from Friends singing with the chimes on the basement steps--lol

Beach Boys--needed help--but so what!

And Paul with the guitar jam at the end was really awesome.

I hope rap is out and real singing is back in. This is likely due to shows American Idol and X-Factor. There are probably a 1,000 Adele's out there--Susan Boyles'--who would never get a shot in the music business but for shows like AI and XF.

So that's the Katy who had fireworks coming out of her boobs during some concert?

She's a gimmick sorry to say. Lady Gaga is a gimmick--for all of her good intentions.

And what the heck was that mouse head with the LSD light box?
(heavy sigh)

Hope to see and hear Adele for the next 30 years. Problem is that she will have to break up with her boyfriends --;o) Hopefully not--lol

And what the heck was that mouse head with the LSD light box?

That's Deadmau5 (pronounced "Deadmouse"), some kind of electronica music producer/DJ. I'd never heard of him before last night. I am not rushing out to buy his music today.

good voice...good music for most part

but she better enjoy it while she can...english singer named 'rumor' is about to storm america.....

Don't believe it, the Grammy's are awesome! Thanks for the thread.

I'm still trying to understand the draw. They were bad last night, but I've never seen them be good. Bruno Mars was great. Adele sounded great. Overall was a good show. Foo Fighters were a bit shrieky.

the show was trash cause most pop music which the grammies have decided to concentrate on is trash.....

yeah yeah...there are exceptions...but this niki bullshit....and the priest shit...THAT is true sign of someone with no talent who has to come up with bullshit to distract you from KNOWING they have no talent.

Three high points in the program: Taylor Swift playing banjo and singing with (her?) band. Jennifer Hudson's tribute to Whitney Houston. McCartney's closing act. With all the crap in the music industry, its wonderful to see such amazing young artists following the greatest rock band ever. Thank God for the recorder, which converts a terminally boring 4-1/2 hours into a magnificent 45 minutes.

Single ... LP

I have a Linn Lingo with a Naim ARO arm mounting a Transfiguration with Van den Hul stylus feeding a BAT tube preamp, Levinson switch, BAT kilowatt and Sonus Faber Amati's.

High end vinyl is quite worthwhile.

Zat,

Was that English?

"Was that English?"

The tonearm is.

Here's one on a Lingo.

Did Skrillex win anything?
#42 | Posted by RexZeitgeist at 2012-02-12 10:36 PM

Skrillex takes three grammys out of four nominations

He puts it best - Justice 'Cross' should have won, Daft Punk 'Homework' and 'Discovery', etc. Although he's new to me, everything he stated is how we've felt. I still have yet to hear with Adele. Deadmau5, no idea what it is, but I did see that Hyundai and Nokia desperately want me to.

Deadmau5 Grammys 2012: DJ Pranks Skrillex on Red Carpet
..
Walking down the red carpet and stopping for pictures, Deadmau5 was wearing a black t-shirt with a phone number and "u mad bro?" beneath it. The digits were apparently Skrillex's cell phone number. "Maximum trolling achieved," Deadmau5 said with a photo linked to the tweet. ..

Is whitney still dead?

you need to broaden your musical horizons....

when I critized madonna and now lady gaga it was different...my bone with them was they didnt need all of the distractions...IF they were that good.......this stupid musical whore is a waste of time during any show thats supposed to be musical....

but you cant argue a lot when it comes to musical taste...

if you like that trash..then eat it up punk....but its still trash.

AND how about the subject of the thread....see many histrionics and cheap parlor tricks and shit like that going on?

no...cause she's got the voice...

Did she eat them?

Adele? Who?
Didn't we sing that at Christmas time (Adele Fidelis)?
