A couple in Jersey Shore, Pa., caught a purple-colored squirrel in their backyard while trying to keep the rodents away from their bird feeders. "I kept telling my husband I saw a purple one out in the yard," said Connie Emert. "'Oh sure you did' he kept telling me." The uneven color of the fur suggests it's likely the animal's natural color, a wildlife official said. "That color looks very much like Tyrian purple," said Krish Pillai of Lock Haven University. "It is a natural organobromide compound seen in molluscs and rarely found in land animals."
