Before the rise of labor unions, which like the civil rights movement, required some to die at the hands of the police before change happened, life was miserable for the working class. 80 hour workweeks which paid less than many employers contrived costs of living.

So FUCKING what? That was 100 years ago. Yes, the union movement did some great things 100 years ago. Much of that is now incorporated into federal and state laws. It is not going away.
What the hell does that have to do with today? You think people are obliged to join a union because it was a good idea four generations ago?

Child labor did not go away until machines replaced them. The majority of children working in factories were in plants that made glass bottles. Once a machine could make the little lip to hold a bottle cap, those children were out.
