Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is filing a federal lawsuit arguing that five SeaWorld orcahs -- Tilikum, Katina, Kasatka, Ulises and Corky -- should be freed on the grounds that the 13th Amendment to the Constitution bans slavery and involuntary servitude. "All five of these orcas were violently seized from the ocean and taken from their families as babies," PETA President Ingred Newkirk said

Oh my, if ANIMALS are considered slaves, then what about seeing eye dogs, horses, sled dogs, silk worms, medical leeches, etc. The list just goes on and on. You literally would not be allowed to make a pet stay in the house. You couldn't put a bird or rabbit in a cage.

Seriously, people need to just stop paying attention to these creeps. All they want is attention like a spoiled toddler and will keep up their antics as long as they stay in the news. And again the real looser here are the animals. Way to go jerkasses.

Wow. Animals are not people. Judge should throw this out in about 2 seconds but in the mean time it gets press.

If corporation are people, why not orcas?

PETA should be fine all court cost and the cost to defend these SeaWorld businesses plus 15%.

PETA is just as bad as some of these environmentalist groups. For all the good that they might have done in the past, they all look like idiots now. They have to continue to find new ways to attack or sue people otherwise, they will no longer feel like they have a purpose.

All Peta members should be rounded up and used as food for the poor animals in cages, like lions, tigers and bears, and of course all of the great apes that also eat meat. Maybe include green peace, Sierre Club members and let us not forget the Earth First members. All a bunch of ass wipes.

"Wow. Animals are not people. "

Well, not all animals are people, but all people are animals.

PETA is probably the paramount example of misplaced time, effort, and money. The largest opportunity cost lost in America, outside of the income tax.

I also wonder how many people oppose whaling practices, simply and solely because they saw how awesome whales are at Sea World or an aquarium or whatever. It's much easier to buy lamp oil or makeup made with an animal you've never seen and know nothing about.

And just for kicks: images.wikia.com

Considering the posts here, some people are vegetables.

"It's much easier to buy lamp oil or makeup made with an animal you've never seen and know nothing about."

"Lamp oil"?

Where do you live? Shishmaref? Christochina? Chignik Lagoon?

If corporations can have personhood rights, why not orcas?

It was the only thing I could think of off the top of my head. I know, not the best.

And null, again- corporations are shareholders. Shareholders are people. Same concept as a union or citizen group.

Swim, Muffy, swim!

PETA is beyond stupid.

Where is the jury of their peers--anchovies.

And the idiot judge is going to let this go forward.

Why aren't they allowed to marry too?

I say free them immediately and let them fed for themselves.

IDIOTS

"let them fed for themselves.

IDIOTS"

Good thing I have a surge-protected mil-spec irony meter with fuel injection.

Next they will want "civil rights" including welfare for all mammals. Could they then go for rights for plants?

Ok Texas can execute Tilicum ...he has it coming lol

"five SeaWorld orcahs -- Tilikum, Katina, Kasatka, Ulises and Corky"

So, Corky barks, jumps and dances on command, and is satisfied when his masters toss a few dead fish.

Explains a lot

Vancouver used to have a couple of orcas at the Vancouver Aquarium in the Stanley Park Zoo.

Spud saw the show a few times growing up as a kid.

Skana and Hyak.

It was fun but even as a kid Spud thought the size of the tank to ridiculously, cruelly small.

In the mid 70s, a census was taken that revealed that there were only about 300 orcas left in pods off the west coast of BC instead of the thousands that once inhabited those waters.

Eventually public pressure against keeping whales in captivity mounted until the decision was made to ban the capture and display of wild orcas from Canadian Aquariums.

It was a good call.

In short, Spud actually supports PETA in this one even if their legal methodology is a bit of a joke.

Be Well.

Here's a link to the history of orcas in Vancouver.

Orcas = People
Humans in the developmental stage know as fetus = not people.

A couple of years ago I called PETA to inquire into what the most humane method of keeping my young labrador retriever from running all over the neighborhood was. The dog was/is an escape artist. He can open doors, climb a six foot privacy fence, etc. While I had never actually used an invisible fence, I was concerned about it hurting the dog. Instead of advising me as to what the most humane method to fence the dog in was, what I got was a pure ass-eating about how I was a terrible person and that my purpose in life was to wait on the dog hand and foot and that fencing a dog was wrong and that I should be jailed for trying to restrict his freedom to roam, etc.

Two things came out of that coversation worth mentioning:
1) I no longer donate to PETA because they are nuts and
2) my dog is allowed to run free at night

#25, you should have trained him to run over to PETA members' houses at night and crap in their yard, bite their kids, etc.

In other news, PETA members, in a show of solidarity for enslaved mammals everywhere, have released all their pets into the wild, only to find out domesticated animals make great coyote food.

can you eat Orca? if not, who cares whether they live or die. Thing would eat you in a heartbeat if given the chance so fuck it- its war- too bad bitches, should have been born with opposable thumbs if they wanted to be at the top of the chain.
