Some have suggested that Republicans could nominate a syphilitic camel in 2012 and still beat Barack Obama. (Hey, I'm willing to hear the camel out; what's his position on taxes?) That sounded like hyperbole until Scott Rasmussen released this video today, discussing the internals of his head-to-head matchups in weekly tracking polls. Mitt Romney now ties Obama 45/45 in the latest three-day cycle, but the uncommitted voters -- 420 respondents, 12% of their sample -- have a distinctly sour take on the President:

I've said it all along---this election will be decided on Obama's performance, ala the economy, even though the demorats will try to make the rethug contestant the issue. However, it won't stick. Obama better hope the economy improves more by the election or he is toast. People will once again look for "hope and change".

If it's about the economy, the Dems would be well advised to remind the populace what happened the last time a Republican was in the WH.

You mean the last time the dems had control of congress.

No, Gashouse, he was quite clear about what he meant:

"If it's about the economy, the Dems would be well advised to remind the populace what happened the last time a Republican was in the WH"

How stupid are you, anyway?

(No need to answer - rhetorical question.)

St Reagan in the 80's was in a similar situation, and he did what Onama is doing, copied FDR from the 30's.

FDR had unemployment down from depression era 25 percent to 17 percent, yet won reelection by touting the positive trends and reminding people who put them it the depression to begin with and asking did they want to go back to those policies.

The GOP Big Lie this year is that the economy is worse now than when Obama got it and that is because of his policies.

The problem with that Big Lie (Google the origins of that phrase) is that it is demonstrably false, and Indies don't enjoy being lied to as much as the GOP Base does.

It is a proven fact that FDR prolonged the depression by at least 7 years due to his socialist programs.agenda.

It is just another rwing myth that you swallowed whole, Mr. Tool.

I think that's a myth. You wouldn't have made it half way down the Birth Canal if it wasn't.

If it was Obama versus Romney, up to this point I would have a hard time making my decision on how to vote. Economy aside, there was a recent decision that made up my mind for me; it was Obama's directive to compromise the separation of chuch/state by his contraceptive/abortifacient directive. The American people better realize how intrusive this directive is and what it means for the future. I am not a Catholic but this guy is starting to scare the heck out of me. You talk about a fascist move. I could care less what the economy does now. There is no way I'll support this guy. In fact, I've never been involved in a campaign in my life or donated to a campaign but I'll get involved in this next election.

What is a fact of history is that FDR was elected 4 times.

Being as stupid as you are probably cuts at least a decade off your expected lifespan.

Heck, Starveus would have just been a "gleam" in his mother's eye. If she realized what that gleam meant for her future she would have wished it was a "stye".

How is the labor participation rate doing?

About the same as it was during FDR and St Reagan's admins.

How is the labor participation rate doing?

10.7 million jobs lost; 4.3 million gained; about 4.2 million saying "I'm out of here".

"about 4.2 million saying "I'm out of here"."

D'you think that has anything to do with the fact we're averaging 10,000 baby boomers retiring every month, have for a year, and will for the next 18 years?

The magic number is 58.5% which will yield an umemployment of 0.0%. Then they will cheer "full employment"!

Fun with numbers.

Duh, have you looked at how many of them have the money they need to retire on?

Why do Democrats deny that when Democrats took over the congress in '07 the economy went to shit and the first full month of the minimum wage rise was the first month of unemployment increases and it went downhill from there.

"Why do Democrats deny that when Democrats took over the congress in '07 the economy went to shit"

Probably because no financial bills got past record obstructionism by the Rs before we had the meltdown.

Okay, Danny boy, that's about 120,000 for the year 2011. How about the other 4.08 million?

Those Obummer apologists that truly believe he has a shot at winning either don't know anything about elections or can't count. EVERY election results in each candidate getting their base out to vote. Obummer has his base. Romney (presumably) has his. Obummers base will never vote for Romney and vice-versa. Then, each candidate fights for the middle.

The Obummer base is about 35% of the population - Blacks, illegals who have fake ids, the LGBT crowd, environmentalists, union thugs, criminal gangs in Atlanta who beat up gays, gays that get beat up by criminal gangs in Atlanta, the hopey changey crowd that still believes the bullshit, the OWS people who hate the 1%, Wall Street 1%ers who've sunk their $$ into him, etc.

Romney's is the job creators, business owners, middle class people who have jobs and can take care of themselves, church goers (especially Catholics and Mormons), military, people who paid for their own education, supporters of Israel, people who fund the tax base, etc.

Then there are the middle 3rd independents. By this post, 80% of the middle third goes for Romney. I think the number is high, but Romney gets the middle 3rd just because Obummer has pissed off more people than he has paid out.

Then wrap that all into the electoral college and poll each state. You'll find that Obummer loses big.

Read both short pages at the link below.... that way maybe we won't have to read any more 5th grade reject "political analysis" from a Dud.

Not necessarily true. Just because one thinks Obama has done a poor job it does not indicate support for Romney.

Not necessarily true. Just because one thinks Obama has done a poor job it does not indicate support for Romney.

True, but the only thing they have to beat up Romney on, at least thus far, is RomneyCare and Bain. Bain bashing won't hold water with independents (only with Bummer's base) and Obama can't go after Romneycare without admitting how fucked up Obamacare is.

The last statement I made was that you have to wrap everything up in the electoral college. Then the first retort that Mr. Down's Syndrome posts is a poll that doesn't consider the electoral college.

My 5th grade analysis just owned his Kindercare mind.

-The last statement I made

No one cares about any statement you made, Pre-School.

The point was that your "analysis" and reality are complete strangers.

Sorry to have to school you in public like that.

Obama is an ignorant bastard in an empty suit. He is over his head and out of touch with reality and not at all fit to be president of the United States of America. He is an admitted communist and known associate of Bill Ayres, a staunch communist and terrorist from the sixty's.

Corky and the like would suck his dick if given the chance. It's truly sad to see so many duped by this imposter and enemy of the state.

Peachfuzz fantasizing about sucking Obama's dick?

Rmoney will be pissed.

Corky burped a cum bubble as he posted that.

Corky has been butt fucked so many times he now owns a 10% share of DEPENDS.

Talk about keeping your shit together...Corky is unable to go out in public without a butt plug.

Corky could pass a cantelope and consider it relief.

(But what's funny is that rwingers are so fucking strung out over their political prospects that the best they can do on a thread is to start quoting us their homoerotic fantasies as some kind of... lame schoolyard attack postage, I guess.

Pretty pathetic when you think about it, eh?)

Ya might wanna wait until he actually starts campaigning before you start counting your chickens.

The entire slate of GOP candidates this time out are unelectable.

Wait, watch, see.

Be Well.

"It is a proven fact that FDR prolonged the depression by at least 7 years due to his socialist programs.agenda."

Repeat, repeat, repeat. It's still a lie. Sorry, but repitition does not create a fact.

"True, but the only thing they have to beat up Romney on, at least thus far, is RomneyCare and Bain. Bain bashing won't hold water with independents (only with Bummer's base) and Obama can't go after Romneycare without admitting how fucked up Obamacare is."

I think you forget about Romney's complete lack of conviction for any position on any topic, voters will be very turned off by a man saying he is anti-abortion who has campaigned for the Senate on exactly the opposite position. Sorry, but there aer plenty of recordings and videos to back that up, Romney just has no character. The only real question is whether Obama's coat tails will also win back the house. It's 50/50 on that in most estimates.

I used to think those who spouted the kind of nonsense Danni quotes above were doing it as a form of rat-fucking. While that may account for some of the incessant yammering of idiotic factoids, more and more it becomes apparent: those who post this stuff are just mindbogglingly stupid.

It's comical that you lefties somehow think this election won't be about Obama's first term, but will strictly focus on Romney. You emotional simpletons never seem to get anything right. The uncommitted voters and Independants are going to school you.

And Doc comes in as the expert on rat-fucking. Nicely played Phd.

How Government Prolonged the Depression

The most damaging policies were those at the heart of the recovery plan, including The National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), which tossed aside the nation's antitrust acts and permitted industries to collusively raise prices provided that they shared their newfound monopoly rents with workers by substantially raising wages well above underlying productivity growth. The NIRA covered over 500 industries, ranging from autos and steel, to ladies hosiery and poultry production. Each industry created a code of "fair competition" which spelled out what producers could and could not do, and which were designed to eliminate "excessive competition" that FDR believed to be the source of the Depression.

"fair competition" sounds like socialism to me.

If it looks like a rat, smells like a rat, walks like a rat, it must be a rat.

FAct: unemployment fell every single year except one after Roosevelt's election. The Republicans have tried to distort his record ever since because it illustrates the bankruptcy of their ideas about the economy. They will do the same thing with the history of the Obama administration, oh wait excuse me, they already are.

The spike to which Danni refers occurred as the Conservative Coalition took control of Congress.

You would know.

Since you didn't read my link (I'm sure you think the WSJ is unreliable) I'll cut and paste for you:

The goal of the New Deal was to get Americans back to work. But the New Deal didn't restore employment. In fact, there was even less work on average during the New Deal than before FDR took office. Total hours worked per adult, including government employees, were 18% below their 1929 level between 1930-32, but were 23% lower on average during the New Deal (1933-39). Private hours worked were even lower after FDR took office, averaging 27% below their 1929 level, compared to 18% lower between in 1930-32.

Even comparing hours worked at the end of 1930s to those at the beginning of FDR's presidency doesn't paint a picture of recovery. Total hours worked per adult in 1939 remained about 21% below their 1929 level, compared to a decline of 27% in 1933. And it wasn't just work that remained scarce during the New Deal. Per capita consumption did not recover at all, remaining 25% below its trend level throughout the New Deal, and per-capita nonresidential investment averaged about 60% below trend. The Great Depression clearly continued long after FDR took office.

"Since you didn't read my link (I'm sure you think the WSJ is unreliable)"

You assume too much. The WSJ is, often, a highly reliable reflection of what "conservatives" and other toadies of the plutocracy think - in fact, it's often the organ via which those folks receive their marching orders.

But you don't appear to be intelligent enough to realize that Cole & Ohanian are not the end-all-be-all when it comes to analysis of the New Deal.

"Total hours worked per adult, including government employees, were 18% below their 1929 level between 1930-32, but were 23% lower on average during the New Deal (1933-39)."

So what? We already know unemployment was high, but it was declining. Thsoe are just figures designed to rewrite the history of the depression from a Republican point of view just as Republicans at the WSJ today do. The Republicans create economic catastrophes and then spend decades trying to shift the blame onto the backs of the Democrats who are stuck with the job of cleaning up the mess. I can understand the party leaders doing that but I do not understand average people, who were hurt by the Republican economic disaster, trying to help them mislead other Americans. It gets to a point that you have to wonder about the sanity of those who do it.

Yep.
The Democrats cleaned up the mess.

Couldn't agree more. Education is an invaluable tool as are you.

Danni (Krugman),

So you think republicans caused the Great Depression and FDR flew in and saved the day? That is rich. No where do I see republicans mentioned under Causes of the Great Depression. More likely caused by the FED, which was created by the progressive, democrat Woodrow Wilson!

I suppose you think Bush caused the housing market to crash thus ushering in the 2008 recession and Barack the magic negro saved the day? Look up Fannie and Freddie for how that recession started.

Keep dreaming girl...

It's comical that you lefties somehow think this election won't be about Obama's first term, but will strictly focus on Romney. You emotional simpletons never seem to get anything right. The uncommitted voters and Independants are going to school you.

LOL

If anything, the independents will school both sides by staying home IMO. Voting for giant douche or turd sandwich isn't particularly appealing.
