The House of Representatives will take up a Senate-passed bill to curb insider trading by members of Congress next week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said said Friday. The bill has bipartisan support in both houses. Cantor said the House would "get a bill to the president's desk as quickly as possible so that there is no misunderstanding on the part of the people that send us here that they can have trust in this institution and the members."

Or, to put it haikuishly:

Behold the darkness
Cast light into darkness
Watch cockroaches scurry

"For a bunch of scumbags they sure jumped all over this one in a hurry. Whats up with that?"

Probably means that the bill is unenforceable.

Well said, I can only assume they've found an alternate vehicle to use in getting rich while in office.

this sure isnt unexpected is it? I betcha thought that its just a way to tone down the anger or put some fuckin loophole in it or something..

Well if it passes both houses quickly that means it is largely ineffective and easily circumvented by the congresscritters.

"We are currently reviewing the actions the Senate took on that bill and we intend to strengthen that bill."

I wonder what kind of irrelevant bullshit they plan to attach to it so it gets voted down?

Keystone XL again, perhaps?

OK I confess. That's exactly what I thought.

I'm sure it includes immunity provisions, doubling of the pension, and a tripling of the salary, or something equally corrupt.

Both working together to get insider information from one another...

The "Impowering our Congressional Staff Members to Trade for Us Act"?

Speaking of loopholes, will this bill to curb insider trading by members of Congress also preclude their family and friends from making the money for them?

This is a very bad idea. We all know how this will end. So long as members of Congress are also able to enjoy the benefits of insider trading they don't care that the rest of us also enjoy the practice. But once they are forced to stop, they will become morally outraged at the rest of us being able to do it. Before you know it, insider trading "laws" will start being enforced and many of us will lose some of our best business opportunities. Either that or we will have to dramatically increase the amounts of our campaign contributions to make up the difference. It will be extortion. I encourage all of you to write your congressman and let him know that you oppose these reforms.

No citation necessary.

This will be like McCain-Feingold: a 'reform' bill meant to advance corruption.

Two things are bipartisan:

Greed.

Desire for re-election.

Guess which one THIS is aimed at?

Seems like they shoud just pass a bill that says ALL people in the US shall be treated the SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please define the term "All".

Who needs a bill?
