The American Civil Liberties Union is suing a Washington state library district for not offering access to online porn, Seattle's King 5 TV reports.

When a user logs on to a computer at the Wenatchee public library, for example, and types "porn" into the search engine, the list of results will appear as if porn doesn't exist, according to King 5.

WOOO HOOO my tax money at work,,,

Maybe we should provide free beer and cigarettes too,,,

I don't have anything against porn but the ACLU is going a little too far with this,,,just watch your favorite porn at home like everyone else,,,

No libs would rather watch it on your tax dollar. It also boost their inner sexual perversion if the kids doing homework can watch them.
They probably want to watch Gay porn to indoctrinate kids with their perverted lifestyle, after all dudsupd says gay is main stream?

SPUD Thinks they should also provide KY jelly so people can jerk off too,

Get Well

The ACLU will sue for online porn along with private viewing rooms in libraries. But will advise to bring your own lotion.

Ordinarily a huuuge fan of the ACLU but this shit is bananas.

No pr0n in public libraries please.

Nobody is suing public libraries to provide copies of "Playboy" and "Big 'Uns" in their periodical section and all a porn filter does is keep stuff out of the library that the library would never stock in book form anyways.

The 3 whiny porn-loving complainers, the non profit and the ACLU folks involved in this pants-on-head retarded lawsuit can all go for a long walk off a short pier here as far as Spud is concerned.

Real question here is what does AFK Babbler think about all this?

The one time his expert opinion might actually count the Babblin' bastard is AFK.

Farking typical.

Be Well.

Speaking of the Babbler, where is he? I am beginning to worry about the guy since the ascent of the Mitt? Did he commit himself to a mental health facility with no internet access? Worse?

Iam pleasantly shocked by your comment. maybe your not as deranged as I thought

Patron,

If you stopped watching Fuck Snooze 24 hours a day you might be shocked to learn that liberals aren't all horned demon spawn out to eat your unborn fetus.

As a long time dues paying member of the ACLU I agree with Dethspud on this one. Porn, like alcohol, cigarettes and weed does not need to be accessible to the lil children.

By the way Tater of Doom, you may also say that they should take an extended perambulation off an abbreviated maritime projection.

Real question here is what does AFK Babbler think about all this?

AFKbabble will be soooo happy (yet conflicted) to hear this.

Porn, like alcohol, cigarettes and weed does not need to be accessible to the lil children.

Then stop letting YOUR children have access to any of those things. Let me worry about mine.

The problem is, when porn is accessible in a public place (like a public library), parents often don't have control over what the children have access to. Yes, I can sit and watch what my child accesses on the internet. However, how do I prevent my child from seeing what some pervo is watching on the next screen over in a public place that should ostensibly be safe for children? Not take them to the library anymore?

Also, why should I as a taxpayer be required to fund access to content that is controlled (and if you don't think porn is a controlled item, you must have never tried to buy a Playboy as a teenager)?

That's what happens when you have a life and don't read the DR constantly.

What the hell is fuck snooze? Most of what I've seen on this site would make think they are demons

"Thank god for the ACLU!"

And schools should allow access to online pron to teachers during their breaks.

"When a user logs on to a computer at the Wenatchee public library, for example, and types "porn" into the search engine, the list of results will appear as if porn doesn't exist, according to King 5."

Does that mean that one can't even find information about porn? If one were interested in doing.... uhmm... research, of course.

That's SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).

And the librarian provides the tissue and cleans up.

Then stop letting YOUR children have access to any of those things. Let me worry about mine.

I get what you're trying to say, Donnerboy, but it would be more convincing if you could grow a dick, plow a furrow, and raise a crop of your own.

As Spud would say...This

I love porn. I'm downloading some as I'm typing this. I have no problem keeping it separate from the public eye. It's for adults.

really?

well fuck why not...lets just start showing deep throat here at barbara bush during story hour.

WHY THE hell not?

Porn should not be accessible in a public library. The problem is, there is lots of critically acclaimed literature that some people call porn. So if we're talking online porn, use the filters. But be careful with that, because some filters are completely lame--for instance, stopping access to cancer research sites because they have the word "breast" in them. That particular problem is seen in schools, too. Libraries should carefully determine problematic sites and ban those. It's a bit work-intensive, but it's the right thing to do.

As for literature that some call porn, libraries should have clear book-buying and complaint policies that are readily accessible to citizens. If you don't like Tropic of Cancer or the Diaries of Anais Nin in your library, for instance, or Huckleberry Finn, you don't have to take them out. If there's a complaint policy, use it. And if the library says too bad, it's staying, and you don't like that, run for the board.

If someone wants to use the computer to research a legitimate site but is blocked, the system administrator can unblock that particular site.

I think if this goes to far you may see some librarys yank the computers out.

rwd

Why can't the computers that are used by the general public, or viewed by minors or passerbyers, be filtered for adult content?

Then have computers in another area that is off limits to minors. Neither can the machines be viewed inadvertently. You must verify your age to enter the area.

Adults who are sensitive to such material can stay away. If you need to use those machines and you have kids with you, that's your problem.

The details of this ACLU case seem reasonable. The ACLU has a point.

However, if there is no available area to safely setup unfiltered computers, then I believe all computers should be filtered.

Most likely it would become a requirement to provide such as area.

You know, there is such as a thing as appropriate behavior, and it seems fewer and fewer people know the difference with each passing year these days.

I mean...people ain't got no class no more.

The link won't open to the story--it's Blocked!! lol

There is only word for the ACLU and this case--'Tyranny'.

And Wenatchee, WA used to be the Prozac capital of the world--may still be.

Something like 70-80% of the town was given Prozac.

Ah hell, give them their porn. Have you ever been to Wenatchee? There is nothing AT ALL to do there. They gotta do something.

Update:

Editor's note: An earlier version of this post said the American Civil Liberties Union had sued the North Central Regional Library district, based in Wenatchee, Wash., for not offering access to online pornography. The ACLU says that its case was not about pornography but was aimed at overly broad Internet filters that blocked access to legitimate research and political activity.

Just FYI...

The other shoe finally drops.

Sensationalist TeeVee news at its finest!!! Gotta keep those mouthbreathers entertained even if you have to pull shit outta yer ass.

Like MSNBC and how they even twist the survey at the end.
