Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives. [...] Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. [...] We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities."

Poor teabaggers. Its wrist slitting time down at the bath house tonight.

so close g.o.p.... but yet another fail

It would help if planned barrenhood actually used the money for mammograms. It does not provide that service. Straw dog 'controversy.'

Dialablowjob is lying as usual.

Through a grant from the local Central Texas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Planned Parenthood in Waco provides life-saving mammogram screening and abnormal mammogram follow-up diagnostic testing for low-income women.

HAR~HAR!

Once again the right gets totally pawned by their own cheerleaders.

It just goes to show how gullible and easily manipulated this puritan ideology (aka MSM revenue source) really is...

It was a good backdoor attempt. At least they are thinking. Komen can't fund any group being investigated, so all the GOP House had to do was open an investigation. Simple, but way to obvious. Dumb in the long run.

Squeaky wheels get the grease.

I'm pleased to see this result but I think that for me and many others the tarnish of reputation is too ugly, deep and won't wash off. For them to deny categorically that Karen Handel had no hand in this is too assume that I and others are just too stupid to live. Karen has been a notorious nutbar since her days as the county commissioner for my district.

I'll still purchase no product with a pink ribbon on it.

"Poor women don't have to rely on Planned Parenthood in order to obtain screenings for breast cancer, especially if Obamacare is upheld by SCOTUS. Under Obamacare, every person living in the USA must have health insurance, including poor women. The last time that I checked, insurance policies pay for screenings for breast cancer. Even government-provided health insurance pays for such screenings."

"What prevents the Komen Foundation's donors from donating directly to Planned Parenthood?"

"PP Getting Its Thug On"

"Planned Parenthood apparently isn't taking this lying down. They aren't just lamenting Komen's decision, they are getting mad.

In a fundraising letter emailed to supporters, the abortion provider proved themselves to be less a "healthcare" organization, and more the ideologically driven advocacy group that detractors say they are. The email is blunt and asks supporters to sign onto the extremist rhetoric and send it on to others. Most interesting, the letter doesn't just attack opponents in general but specifically attacks women that oppose Planned Parenthood."

"This is for all the anti-choice, anti-women people out there.

Listen up.

You can spend every minute of every day trying to force the rest of us to live by your ideology."

LMFAO! Pot calling the kettle black.

"But you know what you can't do? You can't win. You can't break us. Planned Parenthood isn't just a family of organizations. It's a movement."

Ideology!

"we do whatever it takes to make sure that Planned Parenthood is there for the women, men, and teens"

"Know this: When you go after Planned Parenthood and the people they serve, you go after ME. I stand with Planned Parenthood."

Squeaky wheels get the grease. It's ALL about the money!

PP does not have a mammogram machine in any of their buildings.

They do the manual screenings with patients and then refer them out to a facility that does a mammogram.

Komen pays 600,000 a year to have PP do manual breast exams that women do --or should be doing themselves.

One thing for sure is that Komen had no idea that PP would bring a cannon to fire at them for daring to go up against PP.

Teachable moment for all.

Komen backs down on the Planned Parenthoood defunding

Did they fire that failed right-wing Georgia politician yet? Until then I don't buy their apology.

Update 12:23 p.m. EST: Planned Parenthood released a statement from Cecile Richards, president of the group, saying, "We are now heartened that we can continue to work in partnership" with Komen. "We are enormously grateful that the Komen Foundation has clarified its grantmaking criteria, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Komen partners, leaders and volunteers."

So, to sum up.

Komen has more money now than it usually does because of all this free publicity and won't try this stunt again anytime soon.

Planned Parenthood has more money now than it usually does because of all this free publicity and a bigger public profile.

The religious right spent a shitload to get their way here and ended up with nothing but a few more enemies who can now see them more clearly for the moral failures they are.

So the forces of good triumph over evil here.

Huzzah.

Be Well.

I thought the foundation was about finding the cure for breast cancer. Funding bench research, inovative treatments etc. A few years ago The Onion had a great piece about runners in the Race for the Cure looking for the cure in file cabinets, labs etc.

I thought the foundation was about finding the cure for breast cancer.

They also focus on prevention.

Funding bench research, inovative treatments etc.

They do that as well. The catholics bitched up a storm when they though that Komen might fund embryonic stem-cell research at some point in the distant future... any surprise that those self-righteous morons would put their superstitions above the health of women?

So the forces of good triumph over evil here.

Huzzah.

Be Well.
