Andrew Sullivan: In running for re-election, [President] Obama will be able to say he delivered on four core objectives: restoring economic growth in one year after inheriting the worst recession since the 1930s; ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; delivering universal healthcare; and saving the now buoyant American auto sector. And Romney wants to run against Obama's record. Go for it, Mitt.

I imagine David Axelrod already has a series of spots ready to roll out onto our screens.

Opening: Four year ago - financial panic - mired in Iraq and Afghanistan - auto industry teetering

Today: Better

Cut to M'Lord Mutt, yammering on about nobody knows what, lots of flubs, doesn't give a rat's ass about the poor, etc., etc., etc., emphasize his status as a small percentage of the One-Percenters.

It practically writes itself.

"It Could Have Been Much Worse - And It's Getting Better" may not sell a lot of Coca-Cola, but it'll help bury Romney.

The Dems won't have to create a single ad. They can just rerun Noot's, Perry's, and Paul's anti-Rmoney ads.

And if they feel the need, just a few 'greatest hits' rolls of Underwear Boy in action using his own words, un-edited.

"It Could Have Been Much Worse - And It's Getting Better" may not sell a lot of Coca-Cola, but it'll help bury Romney.

Less than 15% will bury Mitt. Blue Collar is not a fan.

Another STUPID artice by STUPID Doc Sarvis. Doc Sarvis, if he really is a medical doctor licensed to practice medicine, should know that Obama is really a socialist.

Well... some think a Tax Free Moonbase is important and adultery is acceptable and and abandoning your spouse on her deathbed is a sign of good judgment...and some think that we should all wear magic underwear and be Gods with our own planets full of horny wives.

And some are not only.....DOPES IN NOVEMBER....but pretty much all the time.

BTW- Doc...Excellent article!

Mitt knows that the defining issue this November will be maintaining reasonable low tax rates for the wealthy. That is the only way to make sure the economy continues to produce jobs and the recovery takes hold.

Things are going great.

Dope & Mange.

Interesting theory.

Be Well.

Andy makes four salient points. But the headline is bunk. Obama campaign theme of "change" is bullshit. We still terrorize the planet with our weapons of mass destruction. We're still offshoring jobs till the cows come home and in the process lowering our standard of living incrementally each year. Obama is on board the Class warfare bandwagon trumpeted by the Rethuglican Party. Obama has refused to prosecute Bush's war crimes and Wall Street for defrauding the American public of $16 trillion. Obama has abandoned polllution control standards and is paralyzed on taking corrective action on climate change. Obama has promoted free trade agreements with three more trading partners and in doing so put the lives of thousands of trade union organizers at risk, especially in Columbia. Pay to play is alive and well in Washington.

Yet, Shrub and Romney are worse. The American dream is dying because profits are being diverted to the least productive members of our society.

**** Obama and his Boyfriend's like Reggie Love did the BEST they could...under the circumstances???

I agree, President Obama SHOULD run on his record, all of it. If the GOP candidate can not convince Americans that Pres. Obama should not be elected, then Pres Obama will EARN a 2nd term. I comes down to what direction we as a society want to go. I would prefer another direction, but the GOP may not be offering a better or even equal direction, we will see. If team Obama does everything in their power to "hide" their true record, that makes my options very limited. I can vote for a lib/progressive candidate, I have in the past. But I totally refuse to vote for a candidate that 'hides' their true motives. Obama ran as a moderate in 2008, he's NOT moderate. While I reject all the socialist/marxist/etc claims, he certainly IS a Lib/Progressive. If Newt wins the GOP nomination, I can not vote for him, he is NOTHING what he says he is. Romney I could consider. He is a moderate. Paul I could vote for, he is what he says he is.

The American dream is dying because profits are being diverted to the least productive members of our society.

Start with taxes. Government doesn't produce anything.

Speaking of taxes, February 3rd was the 99th anniversary of the 16th Amendment.

Obama has refused to prosecute Bush's war crimes and Wall Street for defrauding the American public of $16 trillion.

Of course not. Wall Street from the Federal Reserve on down is Washington's banker.

Then by all means stop using the internet.

They haven't nationalized it yet you dumb fat fuck. But they're working on it.

On a cold war kind of day, in swinging 1969, work began on the ARPAnet, grandfather to the Internet. Designed as a computer version of the nuclear bomb shelter, ARPAnet protected the flow of information between military installations by creating a network of geographically separated computers that could exchange information via a newly developed protocol (rule for how computers interact) called NCP (Network Control Protocol).

One opposing view to ARPAnet's origins comes from Charles M. Herzfeld, the former director of ARPA. He claimed that ARPAnet was not created as a result of a military need, stating "it came out of our frustration that there were only a limited number of large, powerful research computers in the country and that many research investigators who should have access were geographically separated from them." ARPA stands for the Advanced Research Projects Agency, a branch of the military that developed top secret systems and weapons during the Cold War.

Again, government doesn't produce anything. Deal with it, Porky.

#26 | POSTED BY ZATOICHI

You're so stupid, you don't know what "produce" means. An invention in of itself is of no value in the marketplace unless consumers are willing to pay for it. There are literally thousands of patents with no commercial value. If I recall correctly, it was Netscape that made the internet commercially viable.

You're just another government drone living off taxpayers like a worthless parasite.

You resent my recovering any portion of what was stolen from me. But you, Porky, from the day you got your first government paycheck, is the day you started living off of actual producers like me. I still work and pay taxes, asshole! I wouldn't give that government pension of yours more than ten years. Fool!

Liberals say the dumbest things. That's why I can't break away from this site.

Ray,

The Rethug talking point "Government doesn't produce anything" is beside th point if not totally absurd. Do we not want water and sewage projects, universal postal and electric service, schools, roads, and national defense? I recognize many Rethugs can't stand the idea of universal health care, but its a given in the rest of the industrialized world.

Fact is public utility projects cost less for consumers and provide better living standards for employees than their private sector equivalents.

Another fact is Japan, China and Korea are killing our manufacturing by subsidizing their export industries just like we do with agriculture. As long as we continue to laud free markets and offshoring our living standards will continue to fall while transnational Corporate profits soar.

It was Milton Friedman, the free market guru, that invented income tax via the payroll tax deduction. Prior to that time, the entire Federal budget operated on a 15% tarrif. I'm all for reimposing that system of taxation.

The Rethug talking point "Government doesn't produce anything" is beside th point if not totally absurd.

Yeah sure, Nutcase. You hang on to that idea while the market economy continues to deteriorate. Without a free competitive marketplace, there is no way to know what a product or service is worth. Central government planning cannot be made to work because it lacks a means of economic calculation. That's why communism failed.

Government cannot produce anything because it has nothing to sell. It takes from those who produce and gives to those who do not produce. There is a definite cause and effect relationship between the rise of government control over the economy and its deterioration. There is a rightful place for government to keep competition honest. But when it becomes a competitor to the marketplace, there is no way to go but down. Welcome to the USSA of Amerika.

"Yeah dumbass, so turn off all that neon in Vegas and quit eating all that California produce.
#29 | POSTED BY MISTA KURTZ

WTF does that have to do with the fact that government doesn't produce anything?"

You silly shit, it produced the hoover dam, from whence flow those results.

You could look up TVA too, just for the giggles.

One final point, Nutcase.

Take a look at these charts. Think of them as pressure gauges on a steam boiler or your heart rate:
Government debt not counting SS, Medicare, GSE & GMAC:
research.stlouisfed.org
The broad money supply:
research.stlouisfed.org

All this is in accord with a falling dollar which has lost 95% of its value against gold over 40 years.

They should tell you that it is only a matter of time before this blows. I'm guessing no more than five years. There are warning signs all over the place, but liberals tend to ignore and dismiss them.

are we still giving one fuckin miniscule slivef of shit what this bias so called journalist says????

and axe and others..

just take what gop said about hillary and barry in 07 and copy it...same old shit...with the help of the democrat media complex and other liars...it didnt hurt barry.

You silly shit, it produced the hoover dam, from whence flow those results.
You could look up TVA too, just for the giggles.
#39 | POSTED BY MISTA KURTZ

As long as you ignore the 99.9% of things that government doesn't produce, that's just great. BTW, the last I heard, TVA is near bankruptcy. And if the water level in Lake Mead continues to fall, Hoover Dam will be left as a museum attraction.

BTW, silly boy, the capital from the Hoover Dam and TVA came from the private economy. People who lived outside those area were forced to pay for them without any benefit. That's how it works when you rob Peter to pay Paul. There isn't a form of government in existence that can replace the market economy without producing the kind of results you see in communist countries. Maybe you have a point. Government does produce something - poverty, misery, violence and oppression. That's if you want to live in that kind of country.

"Doc Sarvis, if he really is a medical doctor"

No, Doc has a degree in political quackery just like Maddow.

Competition and monopoly both have a place in the economy. But whenever monopolistic opportunities arise the Government either needs to run the show or regulate it. Government health care, water, sewer and electrcity are a better deal for the public as are toll free roads. Can you imagine getting strawberries deliveried everywhere, that we enjoy, without our superhighway system? The toll roads of the East Coast suck and if they prevail no one will be able to afford them. I once waited 45 minutes returning from the Keys to Miami to give a tollkeeper 50 cents. What a waste of fucking time for every Floridian. I'd rather my taxes kept that road up and open.

Here's another example. Margarette Thatcher completely fucked up the British Rail System. Once fully integrated and Government owned, five companies now operte it. Those companies fired all their employees or stole their pensions, raised prices and made it impossible to travel without making multiple purchases between points, one ticket for every rail company, with accompanying delays. That privatization was a fucking failure. All it did was make a few people richer and everyone else suffers for their account, in wasted time and money. Its the same thing every American experiences today when they call a Corporation to solve a problem. A computer takes over and wears you out playing the same shit over and over until you quit trying.

Competition and monopoly both have a place in the economy. But whenever monopolistic opportunities arise the Government either needs to run the show or regulate it.

You haven't caught on to how this corporatist economy operates. That's where business owns government. Once you begin to understand government as an overrated criminal syndicate, then you begin to understand how it functions. You libs treat government like some kind of a wise benevolent god.

Let me put it another way. All these social entitlements and regulations liberals crave so much have corporate cartels behind them. The politicians are the front men who have the job of presenting them as if they were for public benefit. Intellectuals write the scripts.

Politics is to economics as religion is to science. Someday historians will figure that out.

When Andy speaks of the ending 2 wars he ignore many relevant facts. We are killing americans abroad with drones and death squads and without due process. Rendition continues. Gitmo is open for business. We are detaining prisoners indefinately. The new defense bill authorized denial of habeas corpus. Obama owns the deadliest day, month and year in Afghanistan. We are violating Pakistan's Soverignty and killing countless civilians. So much for promises kept. Or for the rule of law, and due process for that matter.

Ray,

I agree completely with your points. I just happen to think we should fix it. That is break up the Corporation/Government conspiracy otherwise known as the military industrial complex. Eisenhower warned us not to let it happen. Letting the private sector run wild is no solution. 2008 proves that. Until candidates like Kucinich, Nader, Paul, or Sanders to name a few are able to compete on the playing field there isn't much hope. Much of the blame goes to private ownership of the mass media, which distorts information ad nauseum. None crazier than FOX cable news. The cost of access is a formidable obstacle. So fuck it, I ski, I boat, I drink to rock music, I play.

I agree completely with your points. I just happen to think we should fix it.

Historical experience teaches that they collapse on their own. Those in power will never give it up until the masses take it away.

Letting the private sector run wild is no solution.

With government debts going exponential towards infinity and the dollar inching towards zero, it's going to be a wild ride over the next five years of so.

The way I see it, the last time government lived within its means was about a hundred years ago. The world economy was built on debt money and it will collapse on debt money. It's a long way down.

You either adapt to the changes ahead or you get crushed.

Slavery and war including domestic class warfare is the history of man, in so long as he has been "civilized". But at the center of that problem are names like Rothschild, Dupont, Melon..... they are the fucking problem because they have created a world in which time and money trumps actual production. It used to be that the Kings debts died with him. Democracy fixed this problem so the debts all became public and live forever. People believe that Gates in the richest man in the world, but in all liklihood the Rothschilds are worth $175 trillion. They don't work, they just take from everyone that does. But that is not the natural order of things, that is a political construct.

Yes, after Raystradamas' predictions of a 1400 DOW occurring during this last recession, you better listen to him now!

Why? you ask?

Good question!

I have to gives socialists like Corky a lot of credit for persistence. Socialism has been a disaster every time it was tried, but they never give up.

And Nutcase. As long as you keep looking for scapegoats for your failed ideology, you'll be like Corky.

Yeah, see when you go from 35 percent top rate for the wealthy to 39 percent, you've crossed over into socialism right there....

What a maroon!

" I was a champion of the people long before I decided to deny them Habeas Corpus via the NDAA ". " I was against war long before I decided to attack Lybia "...."and even though my administration is beating the war drums on Iran I want you to throw all logic and reason out the window and just trust me" - your benevolent dictator....Barack H. Obama

O' Tayyyyyy!!! Just as long as you keep the government checks coming! - Simpleton Sarvis

Sullivan, it seems to me, ignores the following:
1. The healthcare bill passed does nothing to lower costs and was NEVER billed as universal and is not universal. Costs are increasing rapidly. So no, Obama cannot claim that universal healthcare was passed. A dog's breakfast that was far worse than the only reform that would have mattered, single payer took its place. Obama wasted an enormous amount of goodwill and political capital to pass a bill, the details of which will eventually get him vilified, perhpas even by Sullivan. A grade z performance, frankly.
2. there is no true growth nor is there a valid measure of employment currently extant. Go to shadowstats.com
3. We still have many "advisors" and "private contractors" in Iraq and will have in Afghanistan, likely until our empire falls. To claim that these promises were kept is as dishonest as attempting to argue that Obama's promise to close Guantanamo was kept. Not even Sullivan wants to attempt this, I notice.
4. Obama's civil liberties record is shameful- among other things , he has been far tougher on "whistleblowers' than even Nixon, the former gold standard . he has attempted to utilize the shameful "Espionage
act more than any other president and has engaged in undoubted war crimes, the flouting of the constitution, and the murder of americans without trial, and innocent women and children abroad. His only explanation for the murder of innocent women and children was that there were "not many".
5. The only reason he has a prayer to win is because of republican insistence on running someone who is clearly a lunatic or Chatsworth Osborne, we don't know which one yet-looks like Chatsworth after nevada. His presidency has been truly disgraceful and the man has no shame. he was swept to office in 2008 by a unique coalition, many of which will never vote for him or another democrat again, regardless of the republican bogeyman under the bed. Sullivan pretty regularly waxes enthusiastic for indefensible/illogical positions he later comes to regret, I suspect this will be another in a distressingly long list. For my own part, after this terrible performance by a disgraceful "democrat" I will be "wasting" my vote on a third party candidate.

"Costs are increasing rapidly"

Costs have increased rapidly for a generation.

"So no, Obama cannot claim that universal healthcare was passed."

He hasn't.
