An Alabama state senator said keeping teacher salaries low is "a biblical principle." Sen. Shadrack McGill (R) said at a prayer breakfast in Fort Payne, "It's a Biblical principle. If you double a teacher's pay scale, you'll attract people who aren't called to teach. ... [T]hese teachers that are called to teach, regardless of the pay scale, they would teach. It's just in them to do. It's the ability that God give 'em. And there are also some teachers, it wouldn't matter how much you would pay them, they would still perform to the same capacity."

Get used to it.

State Sen. Shadrack McGill???

I thought you must have made that name up.

But his quotes about how paying teachers more would break a biblical principal of some sort fits his name too perfectly.

Get used to it.

Idiots like you certainly aren't doing anything to dispel the notion...

It is Groundhog day, so if there was ever a day to be redundant it would be today, because it is Groundhog day, so it is the perfect day to be redundant being Groundhog day and all. There is no better day to be redundant since it is Groundhog day, so why not be redundant? I mean it is Groundhog day.

Facts, or "black crime statistics", as some pedos say, are racist.

Telling the truth, and placing contect on things are considered racist by some. Those "some", are toddler touchers, limpwrists, and pant-pissing left wingers.

You fruits put the blacks on your planatation, and keep them there by continuing their cycle of poverty while telling them they're too stupid to make it on their own...and guess what? You're right.

In case anyone had the slightest doubt of the relationship between low iq, racism and conservatism 101 Airhead is always here with a post to prove the validity of the claim.

Funniest part is he never seems to realize it.

In fact, in his wee pathetic excuse for a brain, the above post is actually a scathing indictment of the "real racists".

Ya rly!

S'srsly. Ya gotta laugh or yer gonna cry.

^__^

I TOTALLY AGREE!

Let's also not forget;

It's a Biblical principle. If you half a politicians pay scale, you'll attract only people who are called to lead.

You could just stop electing these guys...but you don't. SO get used to getting hammered on it.

Teaching is not a calling; it's a profession. This is insulting. Talk about stats and how many bad teachers, okay; I'm willing to discuss (and argue). Make a comment like this, and you can fuck right off. I entered the profession knowing the pay is comparatively low (where I live and compared with professionals of similar education and training) and knowing I'd seek to maximize in various ways. But I have put a lot of time and energy into my training and professional growth. I was not called; I chose. And even if I were called, why should I not be paid well (assuming I do a good job, for those who want to complain about how teacher pay is structured : ) ).

I don't make assumptions about his faith or intellect; I just conclude that this guy is an asshole.

Actually Prag could care less about the money as long as there's an endless parade of nubile starry eyed 16 year old virgins eager to spread for an A

huh, well, if teachers were paid more, then more people who want to teach, but need more money for their families, would be able to teach. Plus, I believe you get what you pay for. You want to pay just a little less than market for a comparable position based on education. I'm not sure how to check that market value for teachers, though.

It's a Biblical principle. If you half a politicians pay scale, you'll attract only people who are called to lead.

Let's run with this idea.

Perhaps with the oath of office, they should be asked to take oaths of poverty, chastity (aside from spouses) and obedience.

The breaking of any would call for an immediate public defrocking.

Let's see if they are willing to live according to the ideals they espouse.

Modern cynics and skeptics... see no harm in paying those to whom they entrust the minds of their children a smaller wage than is paid to those to whom they entrust the care of their plumbing. ~John F. Kennedy

15--Well done, sir. Well done. Someone who understands ribbing. Mmmm, ribs.

"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age." --Wooderson (Matthew McConaughey), Dazed and Confused

"Mmmm, ribs. "

I already pointed out the pork Ribs at Mike's American but the best beef ribs I know of are at The Iron Works.

Mike's American! I could go there on a day trip. Very nice. Summer calls...

'Mike's American! I could go there on a day trip.'

I believe teachers incomes should increase - AFTER their students improve in their standings measured against other countries. I believe most increases in income would be among the private schools teachers.

22--Copy? Like you too can get there on a day trip? I thought you lived in Texas or something...

23--That's great. Do you also consider other factors in why our students measure as they do against other countries' students? And you're probably right that most increases would be among the private schools, but students not teachers. By and large, private school teachers use the same methods that public school teachers do. The difference is that a greater percentage of private school kids "do school" or are raised to give a shit about education. And btw, then private school teachers' incomes might rise to the levels of public school teachers' incomes.

Most people don't get that. That's why they think throwing vouchers at people will solve the problem.

Ah, yes, once again, someone's been reading from the non-canonical yet stirring classic,
The Book of Bullshit.

Well done, Senator. Way to think outside the box.

25--I know! It's at the center of arguments I have here about public ed with at least two people. Private schools don't do statistically better because the teachers are necessarily better, but because the kids are, by and large, more engaged (or raised to play the game). There are, of course, other factors in play, but I'd say that's the biggest one. And yes, I know: New Orleans! I'm talking about trends over the decades, not simply new stuff on the horizon. I like to hope that all kinds of changes and alternates will help, but if parents don't support, kids are, generally speaking, fucked.

Great insight, Prag!

FUCK conservatives. They need to be sterilized and euthanized.. period.

I have to admit old Shagrag hit the nail on the head if you apply his thinking to preachers and money. Never saw a rich preacher who wouldn't part out his own mother for $50.

Well, why pay teachers who would be teacher anyway anything. The Bible is clear on having workers work for nothing, that is... ah well, how to say it... slavery. Lets sight a few samples. Say Amen! AAAHHHHMEN!

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

In the following parable, Jesus clearly approves of beating slaves even if they didn't know they were doing anything wrong.

The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

If the Bible and Yaweh ain't got no problem with slavery, why should we? After all this isn't like it says in Janism which clearly states ... 'do not enslave people'.

If the Bible and Yaweh ain't got no problem with slavery, why should we?

"If it wuddin't for that goddamn fed'ral gub'mint, negroes'd still know they place. Gawd sed it, ah believe it, that settles it."
