Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Friday, January 27, 2012

With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy', the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies' lobbyists.

The only way to hit them where it truly hurts... Their profit margins.

Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.

I've been doing so for years, as well as boycotting Hollywood movies unless I buy them used.

I buy records weekly and TV series on DVD about once a month. The video game one will be tough, but I will do this.

I'm in ,tired of buying DVD's and having to be warned of theft.let the industry rot. they are all to overpaid anyway.

Fight "back"? PC gamers are second class citizens due to how easy it is to pirate on our platform. Gas Powered Games learned their lesson with Demigod. No DRM of any kind, 93% piracy rate. As they said. paraphrased due to my own memory: "I can't help but think that we'd have gotten a few more sales if it weren't so easy to steal." The year before they released that game they were one of the biggest activists against DRM. This is a common case, small guy gets boost from piracy, gets popular, gets in a position to finally make a go at this "game design" thing as a career instead of a flash in the pan and then bam, they've entered the big leagues, piracy is suddenly their friend no more. Suddenly EA who they had called so evil before made so much sense to them.

"They're all too overpaid" is almost always right next to "fuck Hollywood anyway, they don't do enough risky/quirky movies!"

Well here's a heads up, children: The money Hollywood doesn't get because you pirate instead of buy? That doesn't come out of the budget for the next Pirates or Twilight movie. That comes out of the budget for the next quirky comedy/adventure about a nerdy chick with telekinesis trying to turn back the evil beings slowly replacing homeless with undercover agents. When the income of content providers is down, all you're doing is making absolutely SURE they don't try anything risky.

And you're not hurting the CEO's with your actions. His money comes out of the profits Twilight makes. You're hurting the sound guys, you're hurting the truckers, you're hurting the extras, you're hurting the retailers and you're hurting, ultimately, yourself. Claiming intellectual property has no value unless you, personally feel like paying for it is a great way to ensure that less and less people try quitting their dock worker job and becoming the next Bruce Springsteen.

Well I never stole any movies or songs! I dislike having to be lectured about theft when I buy the dam thing! The Occupiers bitch about rich ceo's at least they do something. why is it people complain about doctor salaries, but never mention overpaid performers . When you need your next brain surgery have paris hilton do it for you,or george clonney he played a doctor. Should work out well for you.And who would want to quit their dock working job?

#5 - not a good argument patron. paris and george generate a lot of money. the doc doesn't. why shouldn't they have a cut of what they make?

anyways, i'm in kan. i remember the days before piracy when the price of a cd was creeping up to 25 and they were releasing double discs full of crap.

I'm not saying they shouldn't get a cut. My complaint is when I buy they act like I stole it making me watch the warning. My remarks were aimed at Soheifox implying I steal and affect their income. The other part was how people worry so much about stars lives, but complain about real productive people making large sums of money for services I really needed.
