Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Two days after Newt Gingrich defeated Mitt Romney in the South Carolina presidential primary one of Romney's big-name backers offered a grim prediction for his fellow Republicans.
"The possibility of Newt Gingrich being our nominee against Barack Obama I think is essentially handing the election over to Obama," former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty told reporters on a Jan. 23 conference call. "I think that's shared by a lot of folks in the Republican Party."

Intensely Negative
Still, "Americans have become more intensely negative in their evaluations of Newt Gingrich -- who now has the lowest score overall," the study concluded.
Some prominent Republicans say there isn't yet enough of a consensus that Gingrich is unelectable to give rise to a concerted effort among party operatives to thwart his ascent.
"I haven't seen that there's an all-hands-on-deck movement to try to block any candidate -- Newt or anyone else," said Frank Donatelli, the chairman of GOPAC, a training organization for state and local Republican candidates once headed by Gingrich, and a former top party official.
The last time there was such an effort was in 1996, he added, after Pat Buchanan won the New Hampshire primary and prominent Republicans quickly coalesced around Bob Dole, who ultimately claimed the nomination.
“I haven’t heard that kind of alarm emanating about Newt,” Donatelli said.
Other prominent Republicans are sounding just such a warning. Dole endorsed Romney today, writing in a letter that the party should nominate the former governor “if we want to avoid an Obama landslide in November.”

One hands on deck movement (against Newt) attempting to block another hands of deck movement (against Romney). Yes, indeed.

I'd guess Willard will still get the nod. I'll be the first to say it, that man is a wimp. If he's president, Republicans will just have to live with that.

that the party should nominate the former governor â€Å"if we want to avoid an Obama landslide in November.”

Sure. And if Willard is elected the GOP dancing in the streets will last twelve hours, max. Then the sales of Prozac will start to go up, because you guys are going to be depressed, very depressed, that pieve of soft fruit who took the oath is now your leader.

But there's always room for hope. Santorum pretty much deconstructed Willard last night on health issues. Not all that hard to do, of course. Willard is full of shit on the issue, knows he's full of shit, but has painted himself into a corner where he has to pretend otherwise.

If he's president, Republicans will just have to live with that.

But how can Willard be the poster boy for their platform of hate? He is far too plastic to scowl all the time.

As someone put it yesterday, Willards primary qualification for president is that he thinks he deserves to be president.

What's that question? Who do you want picking up the phone at the White House at 4:00 AM? Jeez, Republicans. Just admit you have lost your way.

The splintering of the Republican Party is exactly what you get when you try to infuse socialism-light into a political party bound together by conservatism. Over the past few decades or so, the Republican establishment tried harder and harder to skim some of the moderate socialists away from the Democrat Party, unconcerned with how it was effecting what they believed was the die hard support of the rank and file. GHW Bush spawned Ross Perot and the fracturing of the Republican Party was set in stone. You don't hear much division among Democrats because they are largely satisfied with the level of and dedication to socialism the Democrat Party represents. Conversely, the infighting among the Republican Party over the acceptance and support of various socialist ideals can be heard on talk radio and read on DR every day.

GOP dancing in the streets will last twelve hours, max.

The GNOP vacillating between candidates is far from over. Their schizo personality still has not chosen the anointed one to depose the Kenyan Muslim Socialist Marxist Communist Appeaser Organizer from the White House yet, and I doubt they will for a while.

political party bound together by conservatism.

Please. The Republiturds have not been conservative since the 60's.

What an amazingly retarded assessment of the situation.

Good fer a laff, tho...

.

Democrats because they are largely satisfied with the level of and dedication to socialism the Democrat Party represents.

We Democrats spend little or no time talking about "socialism", or our "satisfaction" with it. I know of no Democrat who is, or wants to be, a socialist.

Time to face up to the idea that you guys chew and chew on some phrase or slogan, attempt to digest it, vomit it up instead, and then chew some more. Repeat cycle.

You're fighting some shadow enemy that does not exist. In your zeal to do so, you've lost track of reality. This was pretty clear when you elected W. It's even clearer now.

NONE of your two major candidates is qualified to be president. NONE.

Let's start with that reality before we start sweeping under the bed for socialists. All of us have a stake in determining why you people are fucking this up so badly.

For the Rethug party to acquire dominance again it will require offing folks like Bush, Romney, and Gingrich. The party has to go back to conservative/libertarian ideals. The Rethug nominees always talk a good theme and end up being no different then a demorat in their policy decisions and actions.

NONE of your two major candidates is qualified to be president. NONE.

You're a total joke Zed. All the rethug candidates are qualified to be POTUS if you set incompetent Obungler as your yard stick. Romney has more experience in his little finger then Obungler ever had when he ran. No, Zed, your posts reveal you're not qualified to even move your fat little fingers over your keyboard and type out inane statements and stupidity.

NONE of your two major candidates is qualified to be president. NONE.

Wow, hard drinking of the coolaid so early. It's still amazing that a obamadroid like you could go so far as to challange anyone for lack of experence after Obama. This guy never ran a lemonade stand, and he might of fucked up less if he had sold lemonade rather that playing around with Frank Marshall Davis.

Ha!

Ol' Zed struck a nerve, did he?

.

The party has to go back to conservative/libertarian ideals

Yet we will sweep Ron Paul under the rug.

All the rethug candidates are qualified to be POTUS if you set incompetent Obungler as your yard stick.

MATSOP, I'm not sure where to start. Even accepting that Obama is as bad as you say, that's no excuse for what the Republican Party is trying to do this year. Same for you, PANEOCON.

Nominating someone who sucks because you think he sucks less than someone else is NOTHING YOU GUYS EVER HAD TO DO.

You have to know that.

There really is no Republican establishment left that can control anything
If only rank and file Democrats had the balls to challenge their leaders when they go against their wishes. Instead, they flip their positions around, start loving everything they previously hated, and resume polishing knobs. The Democratic establishment has them under their thumb.

(inb4 deflection, inb4 yeah but Republicans, preemptive no u)
