A school district in Minnesota is ending spring break vacations for students after this year. Sartell-St. Stephen School will instead have more extended weekends and an earlier end to the school year. "It wasn't broken, so I don't know why they had to fix it," said Lee Hurd, the parent of a student who is leading a group of 88 to the Dominican Republic this spring.

Why not?

In much of the country, schools have week-long breaks around Christmas, in February, and again in April (or variations: 2 weeks Xmas, long weekend Feb, week April). This is in addition to 8 to 10 weeks (the real number in many places) for summer vacation.

Why? Is it still valid? Still important?

How many days of school should students attend per year? Why?

How many in-service days (teacher days, professional development days) should districts require per year? Why?

"In Roseau, just about as close to the Arctic Circle as you can get in Minnesota..."

Right. And Jackpot is about as close to the Arctic Circle as you can get in Nevada.

Stupid idea Padre Island is a more pleasant place to spend a week than the Dominican Republic

I didn't know spring break was alive and a threat to people. You gotta hand it to thoes libs in mn. They are in control of the situation.

5--Why do you assume it's "libs" who want to kill it off? Or do you?

Because they all 'choke' chickens which makes them cold blooded killers. Besides that, the state is full of libs. A conservative there is a lib in most of middle America.

Now you're just trolling.

We only get a week long spring break every three years, and I think even that is very grudgingly agreed to by our school board. It's not really that big of a deal to nor have one.
