BATON ROUGE -- Two teachers unions fired back at Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday, taking aim at his proposed education overhaul and accusing him of using misleading and inflammatory rhetoric to attack educators. The Louisiana Federation of Teachers and Louisiana Association of Educators, which will announce its own plan Friday, both blasted Jindal's proposal, which includes an expansion of school vouchers and significant changes in how teacher pay increases and tenure are applied.

Yes, Eddie, we know why you're so angry about teachers. But honestly, do you think any of us think it's THEIR fault you're a retarded moron?

Way to go Bobby Jindal1!

Ignore Lettuce, he's still pissed they don't let the developmentally disadvantaged kids eat the crayons. He loved the green ones.

I thought vouchers were ruled unConstitutional

No after a beating in the press they are even using them in DC now.

"We have to protect out phony boloney jobs"
--- The Louisiana Federation of Teachers and Louisiana Association of Educators ---

I love the implication that poor parents are just too stupid to make decisions regarding which school their child should attend.

If you watch the movies Waiting For Superman and The Cartel and come away from them not being violently angry there's something wrong with you.

The misappropriation of funds through our entire education system is sickening. It's NEVER about the kids. It's about fat paychecks being given out to ADULTS. Ridiculous amounts of money. All the Union hacks that support the teacher's unions are either clueless or like lying to themselves about the situation.

We spend more than any other country and we're ranked almost dead last. If you assholes honestly think the unions are doing what's right then you should check into the nearest rubber room.

That coming from the liberal union lovers that are all about the equality for minorities and poor too......

Parents should be able to choose the school their child attends.

The transportation to the school outside of their home area is the parent's problem.

Necessity Is the Mother of Invention

After Katrina, the failing schools of New Orleans were turned over to privately run charters. Five years later, they're on the mend.

In New Orleans today, students and educators have unprecedented leeway to mold educational experiences. Students can apply to and, if accepted, choose to attend any of the 's 46 charter schools or 23 “traditional” schools. The vast majority of schools have open-enrollment policies that allow any student to attend, regardless of past academic success. (Schools with more applicants than spots hold lotteries.) The prevalence of charters means that in most of the city's schools, educators can choose how their schools are run. Even in traditional schools, principals have unusual autonomy over the hiring - and firing - of teachers, since the city's teachers' union lost its collective-bargaining rights.

I wonder why the teachers unions are so pissy in LA? Looking into the crystal ball?

Pan...watch the documentry The Cartel...you'll see why the union bosses are Liszt.

Both unions, which together represent about 41,000 teachers in the state, said that poor performance by Louisiana students was the fault of inadequate funding and said a voucher program would further bleed the public system.

Democrats reason for public school failure -
1. Inadequate Funding
2. Racism
3. Racism
4. Rich not paying more taxes
5. Racism
6. Corporate America
7. Global Warming
8. Racism
9. Inadequate funding
10. Climate Change

When I watched the movie "The Cartel", Brian Williams asked the NJ Teacher's Union president how it could be that only .032% of teachers had been fired over a 10 year period. This cunt actually said, "Well what I would say is that we should Celebrate a 99.97% success rate!" I wanna smack that bitch right in the face. Success? What success? If you mean by unions keeping SHIT teachers in the system, ok. But with only 40% of high school students able to read... I don' thtink she had anything to be smiling about.

Unreal. By that logic, the Soviet Politburo was a raging success as well.

LOL!

Being stupid on purpose only wins with people "stupider" than you.

The article is about the union.

But you knew that, right?

Drunk, stupid and dishonest is no way to go through life, son.

Bad teachers should be fired. Unions should support that; some do. Key question: How do you know who's bad enough to be fired? If you say standardized test results, you're blowing smoke.

Also, it seems to me that most of the critics on these threads see poor teacher performance as the only factor in school failure. They also assert, commonly, that private schools are better and ignore clientele as one of the major reasons why.

Many critics also want to hire accomplished professionals (not in teaching but in their field), but then ignore the reality that pay is so comparably low that that's nearly impossible.

The problem(s) is (are) a whole lot more complicated than "vouchers are the solution!"

I am intrigued by what New Orleans is doing. Jindal's rhetoric, however, seems questionable.

If the poor are poor because they are too stupid to make good choices for their families (put forth daily here by the right), then why is their choice about where their kids should go to school beyond reproach?

Actually, it's the teachers' union that is making it about teachers. The folks who support vouchers are are saying that the administration of the school is the problem.

Then why not just give it a try in a community that wants to try it?

His rhetoric is in response to comments of very arrogant and stupid union officials.

Uh... that statement was made by a union official. Hard to believe, huh?
