Mitt Romney has enhanced his image as a front-runner by staying above the fray during a run of Republican debates, but at Monday night's debate in Tampa, he sharply abandoned that approach to unleash a withering attack on the rival who threatens his claim to the nomination. Saying that Newt Gingrich "resign in disgrace" as House Speaker in the '90s, Romney called him an influence peddler in a withering criticism of his record in and out of office.
