Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Monday, January 23, 2012

The New England Patriots and New York Giants booked a rematch of Super Bowl 0x2A on Sunday. Lawrence Tynes kicked a 31-yard overtime field goal to give the Giants a 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC, while the Patriots won 23-20 over the Baltimore Ravens when kicker Billy Cundiff missed on a 32-yard field goal attempt with 11 seconds remaining in the AFC.

Woo hoo... here comes Madge!

Chloroform? More like Boroform...

Instead of heros we get a couple of zeros that are going to have a very long off-season.

Crisis

I'm a Giants fan and am psyched that my team made it. But I wouldn't have minded seeing that Niners D play against Brady. Eli got hit 20 times yesterday. Brady would have been crying before the end of the 3rd quarter.

Mistakes on special teams determined both games, punt return fumbles for the Niners and field goal kick for the Ravens.

I would have liked to have seen the old school Niners play NE, too, but now we should have a high scoring affair.

Nice seeing a top team play D at all. Seems to be almost a lost art.

Certainly were brothers then, huh?

Would also have made for a fun story line -- the two ex-Michigan QB's (Brady & Harbaugh) playing against each other.

Almost any combo seems to have a human interest story this year.

Brother vs brother?
Rematch?
East vs West?
Same school QB?

They were well covered this year.

Poor Ravens. I can't believe he missed that FG to tie it.

HA HA HA Knuckleheads

I told you so !

where are you, PUSSY ??????

I'm thinking things are pretty quiet in the Harbaugh household today. Went from a potential for the Har-bowl to them sitting on their dad's couch in two weeks commenting on the game. Rough.

Snooze. No one I know wanted to see this rematch. The Niners would have won that game if they had Ginn Jr. Also would have won if the refs didn't favor the Giants. (See, e.g., the Bradshaw fumble and the Evans TD.)

What a joke.

No shit. But enough about another stupid lib like yourself who has no business posting on anything sports related.

Not sure what s more laughable... Monte not understanding the whistle blowing when forward momentum is stopped, or some fucking average returner making the difference in a game where the 49'ers converted their only 3rd down conversion in OT...

No shit. But enough about another stupid lib like yourself who has no business posting on anything sports related.

Oh so the 'leave me alone' conservatives now get to decide what other people are allowed to be INTERESTED IN?

If a lib wants to spend his time watching thinly-veiled military recruitment, what's it to you asshole?

"Oh so the 'leave me alone' conservatives now get to decide what other people are allowed to be INTERESTED IN?"

Huh? Interested in? Let me guess, you call balk at a baseball game and have no clue why?

"If a lib wants to spend his time watching thinly-veiled military recruitment, what's it to you asshole?"

The same answer if asked while Montecore is wearing a thong and dancing around during the game, I couldn't care less what you libs do.

"If a lib wants to spend his time watching thinly-veiled military recruitment, what's it to you asshole?"

If those American flags get any bigger, they'll have to be lowered on stadiums with helicopters.

Bwahahaha. What a retard. CoCo thinks somehow that a kick returner fumbling TWICE (one of which led directly to the winning field goal) makes no difference in a 3 point game. That's is plain ignorant, but that's CoCo for you.

"Monte not understanding the whistle blowing when forward momentum is stopped....
#14 | Posted by crispee_oc"

That whistle was early. RBs make plenty of yards after their initial forward progress is stopped, if they aren't yet down. You would know that if your boyfriends actually let you watch the game instead of making them snacks and getting them beers.

By the way, you still have splooge stains on your apron.

"No shit. But enough about another stupid lib like yourself who has no business posting on anything sports related."

Libs hate football because they can't keep moving the goal posts.

"Bwahahaha. What a retard. CoCo thinks somehow that a kick returner fumbling TWICE (one of which led directly to the winning field goal) makes no difference in a 3 point game. That's is plain ignorant, but that's CoCo for you."

I do? Only one fucking idiot whined about what could of or would have happened like some 8 yo.

BTW... You should be whining more about the first turnover resulting in the TD. But of course "that's is plain ignorant" Monteboy for ya...

CoCo concedes. S/he probably doesn't even realize it, buts/he did. Fucking still a retard.

"Monte not understanding....some fucking average returner making the difference in a game...."

Here's your pointy hat. Go sit in the corner you haven't already peed in.

"That whistle was early. RBs make plenty of yards after their initial forward progress is stopped, if they aren't yet down. You would know that if your boyfriends actually let you watch the game instead of making them snacks and getting them beers."

Wow... Now you go from barely knowing soccer and football are not the same to a fucking rules guru? You poor SOB. Maybe your wife still believes you know something about the NFL, sadly nobody here will say the same...

So you are saying that as soon as any running back's forward progress is stopped, the whistle must be blown and the play is over, right?

Let's get your position nailed down before I embarrass you.

Let's not argue. Any Superbowl without the Cowboys in it is to be celebrated.

Agreed, Diablo.

---Monte not understanding....some fucking average returner making the difference in a game....---

"Here's your pointy hat. Go sit in the corner you haven't already peed in."

On the other hand thinking a player who has not stepped on the field for a month and was NEVER going to play would have led to a Niner win pretty much says it all Monteboy. Stick to dancing, costumes and confused genders....

I really enjoy all of the sour-grapes attitudes of people whose teams FAILED to make it.

I keep seeing all of these 'boring' and 'well, there goes the west coast viewership' type of posts elsewhere......LOL.

Go Pats!

Boston, one of the greatest sports towns. Period.

So you are saying that as soon as any running back's forward progress is stopped, the whistle must be blown and the play is over, right?

"Let's get your position nailed down before I embarrass you."

Yeah embarrass me you fucking dolt. Ask me about a hundred instances of stopped progress, and ignore the one in front of your ignorant face. Yes the whistle was blown when forward progress had stopped, the player was going backwards and then lost the ball. Nothing in that play indicated the whistle blew early.

Go find a mirror and try on a new dress before coming back on this thread. You won't be any smarter, but probably more comfortable looking like an idiot. Again...

So what else will be on TV west of NY?

"On the other hand thinking a player who has not stepped on the field for a month and was NEVER going to play would have led to a Niner win pretty much says it all Monteboy.
#28 | Posted by crispee_oc"

That makes no sense. No one was looking for the replacement returner to win the game, just not lose it. You think regular returner Ginn Jr. would have fumbled twice? You thinking fumbling twice, leading to 10 points might have mattered a little bit in a 3 point game?

Go and clean your apron, CoCo.

"Mistakes on special teams determined both games, punt return fumbles for the Niners and field goal kick for the Ravens."

I thought that Ravens' receiver should have held onto to that winning TD.

"You think"

And Lee Evans did catch the winning TD, but the play wasn't even reviewed. (Though the NFL is trying to pretend now that is was.)

By the way, CoCo. I probably win more money betting football than you make working your little job all year. Just sayin.

"Snooze. No one I know wanted to see this rematch. The Niners would have won that game if they had Ginn Jr. Also would have won if the refs didn't favor the Giants. (See, e.g., the Bradshaw fumble and the Evans TD.)

What a joke."

Give me a break. The whistle has blown at least half a dozen times before the Niners ripped the ball out. And crying about injuries in the NFL is ludicrous. Every team has them.

Monte, you're a dancer?

-And Lee Evans did catch the winning TD

I thought he had posession in the EZ before the strip, too.

'er"And Lee Evans did catch the winning TD, but the play wasn't even reviewed. (Though the NFL is trying to pretend now that is was.)"

Yeah keep reaching moron. Now we know you are as clueless about a catch through the tackle as you are about forward momentum being stopped. And of course a player out for a month who probably wouldn't have even been the returner had he been healthy was the difference in a game which went into OT.

"By the way, CoCo. I probably win more money betting football than you make working your little job all year. Just sayin."

Of course you do. I can see you callng the bookie and saying I would have won had Ted Ginn Jr played and I am not paying. Or you had the Ravens and want a no bet because YOU don't understand the rules of a catch and think Evans held on through the tackle...

Go away Monte, your entertainment value has peaked....

The Giants won the game. Period. They had too much class to bitch about the Green Bay officiating. have some self respect you assholes, stop bleeding from your vaginas. NEW YORK in the SB.
RECOGNIZE.

"I thought he had posession in the EZ before the strip, too."

Must be that defensive prowness as a runside linebacker back in
1962 showing it's value here. Now simply look up the rule and then come back and tell everyone why libs and sports are a bad retorting combo...

Monte, where do you dance?

"Now we know you are as clueless about a catch through the tackle....
#40 | Posted by crispee_oc"

That's right. Because a receiver can catch the ball and then run around the end zone for a while and the play isn't over until he is tackled. Lol.

"There’s really not a whole lot to say about it," Evans said. "It is what you saw. It was an opportunity for us to go to the Super Bowl, and I let it go."

WTF does he know? We both saw the game and think it was a TD. Go fuck yourself Lee you was robbed.

Sincerely,
Monteboy and Corky. Drudge's lib tag team of sports knowledge...

After going thru this thread I have to agree with the above statement. You have liberals and females commenting on football and they are just grasping at any bad call talking point that they heard on local radio. You have some girl who is a dancer or prostitue or whatever pretending she knows the rules about when its a tackle in the end zone or not.

Sheesh

"That's right. Because a receiver can catch the ball and then run around the end zone for a while and the play isn't over until he is tackled. Lol."

You found that funny? Me too. What loser doesn't undertstand a simple NFL rule, yet opens his yap? Here moron, maybe you take some advice and simply dance away in drag...

As to whether a catch was made, the standard is simple. From Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 3: If a player controls the ball while in the end zone, both feet, or any part of his body other than his hands, must be completely on the ground before losing control, or the pass is incomplete.

Keep in mind the GMEN BABY! have had the Pats number for the past few years.

Brady is shitting in his pants. Nightmares of JPP, Tuck, Oseminyura, Canty etc in his face, looking downfield to a bunch of covered receivers, hearing the breath of the fierce attack coming...aaaaaahhhhhhhhh

WHATCHA GONNA DO TOM BRADY WHEN GIANTSMANIA RUNS WILD ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what happened, kid. Or at least it was close enough that they should have stopped the game and carefully reviewed it. I was surprised they didn't. That, and the quick whistle on the Bradshaw tackle made me question whether someone in stripes wanted the NYG. It was no big deal to me, I'm not a big fan of either team and didn't bet the game, but I thought those calls were at least questionable.

Agreed.

Let's send $100 each to Rogers, and let him send the $ to the winner.

after the packer game I am flabbergasted that anyone could claim a pro giants biased by the officials.

WHo in the hell likes rematches? We already saw this matchup 4 years ago. It was a good game, but I'm again tired of seeing the same damn teams in the SB.

49ers would have been awesome. Cincinnati would have been good too. Though I don't think I could have taken another week of Tebow mania.

But I do have to say it's better than Pittsburgh and Greenbay. That would have been the worst.

9-6 Giants v. #1 Seed Pats. If the Gmen relied on the run game more, I would say they would be toast. Wilfork is a fucking beast. But because Eli has had as good of a latter half to the regular season and pretty damn well in the playoffs too - Cruz and Co. will run all over NE's secondary. Eli will have the day everyone expects Brady to have and in the end - Eli Manning will be 2 and 0 against Brady/Bellicheck in Super Bowls. Something that might solidify is spot in the HOF.

"That, and the quick whistle on the Bradshaw tackle made me question whether someone in stripes wanted the NYG."

They obviously knew Cundiff would miss a chip shot, and of course a muffed PR and fumbled PR. Giants were the hottest team as well as the Pats. Go figure both advanced...

BTW... The two brothers coaching a SB against each other would have created equal ratings.

New England -3/55...

"Wilfork is a fucking beast.
#64 | Posted by rstybeach11"

He is, but I've always thought of him as primarily a run stopper. But he was in there on passing downs a lot of the game yesterday, and he and the other fat bastards on that line were just blowing up the Ravens' O-line. They just bull-rushed and collapsed the pocket on Flacco all day. I was impressed with their pass rush.

"That, and the quick whistle on the Bradshaw tackle made me question whether someone in stripes wanted the NYG."

"They obviously knew Cundiff would miss a chip shot...
#65 | Posted by crispee_oc"

I'll leave it to CoCo to explain what Cundiff had to do with the NFC championship game yesterday. You really follow your sports, don't you retard?

"You really follow your sports, don't you retard?"

I follow a retard named Monte claiming the refs had it in for a team, and at the same time says the 49'ers would have won had Ted Ginn Jr been healthy. Bringing up Cundiff deflected you from further embarrassment. You are the loser who admitted to not knowing the rule for a legal catch in the NFL, and are ignorant why the play was ruled an incomplete pass...

I was impressed with their pass rush.
#68 | POSTED BY MONTECORE

Seriously. I know Pat's pass defense was in the gutter for the regular season, but I still wonder how much better the 18-1 Patriot defense was from 4 years ago over the current Pats defense.

I also wonder if Eli has better receivers now than he did in 2008. It's a tough call, but I again think Eli pulls this one out and sets himself above his brother in elite QB status.

#70 | POSTED BY CRISPEE_OC

9ers would have won had they put anyone as punt returner other than the goat Williams. I was wondering why they didn't put Crabtree back there in the least considering the circumstances of the game. Williams is a kid - bench player and shouldn't have been relied on in such a critical point in the game after showing how incredibly inept he proved himself to be when the first punt hit his knee. Any special teams coach can tell you he should have been ten yards away from the ball in that instance.

And then diving to field a punt even earlier on in the game. He was throwing red flags to his coaches that he shouldn't have been in the game.

"are ignorant why the play was ruled an incomplete pass...
#70 | Posted by crispee_oc"

Read this again, this time really slowly. See if you can understand it, CoCo:

"That's what happened, kid. Or at least it was close enough that they should have stopped the game and carefully reviewed it."

"9ers would have won had they put anyone as punt returner other than the goat Williams.
#72 | Posted by rstybeach11"

Probably. I thought he was doing a pretty good job earlier in the game (despite falling on his face during a nice runback, for no apparent reason). But after that Niners' cornerback (can't remember which one) got nailed when he and Golston ran into each other, he seemed to be rattled. On the punt right after that, he fair caught the ball at the 12 (or so), even though there was no one within 10-15 yards of him. And then he's diving towards bouncing balls. He was rattled, no doubt about it.

"He was throwing red flags to his coaches that he shouldn't have been in the game."

Agreed.

I didn't see the second game. The Ravens game was amazing until that last kick. Was this game as well played? If so, this should be a HELL of a Super Bowl.

"Read this again, this time really slowly. See if you can understand it, CoCo:"

Understand what moron? Just because the officials didn't review it means what? They had it in for the Ravens? You know, like your claim they had it in for the 49'ers because YOU do not know what forward progress means? Go away tiny dancer...

"I also wonder if Eli has better receivers now than he did in 2008. It's a tough call, but I again think Eli pulls this one out and sets himself above his brother in elite QB status."

His receiver Cruz is ripping up the field. Still, even as a Giants fan, I can't place Eli above his brother yet.

"I also wonder if Eli has better receivers now than he did in 2008. It's a tough call, but I again think Eli pulls this one out and sets himself above his brother in elite QB status."

Eli is better than he was in 2007-2008. Receivers are better. D-line, which was the strenghth of the 2007-2008 Defense is better. O-line was a real strength in 2007-2008 and they've been great pass blockers this year too (until yesterday's game where they fell off a bit).

They are worse at TE, the offesnsive line this year can't run block very well, they are not as deep at running back and Jacobs is not as good as he was back then (although featuring Bradshaw more than Jacobs mitigates that a bit), they are worse at linebacker, the secondary may be about the same.

I think this year's team has much less depth. But they've improved on the things that helped them win in 2007-2008 (good QB play in the playoffs and pass rushing). Alot of people say the 10-6 2007-2008 Giants are the worst team to win the Superbowl. I'm hoping the 9-7 2011-2012 squad takes that title (even it isn't true).

Alex Smith made a pass at a tight end who liked it long and deep and that's how he scored.

Unfortunately, he was supposed to be at a football game.

I'm thinking things are pretty quiet in the Harbaugh household today. Went from a potential for the Har-bowl to them sitting on their dad's couch in two weeks commenting on the game. Rough.

Similar thing happened in the blood feud between Montana and Young back in '92 when the Niners and Chiefs both lost in the Championship Games. Instead of Montana vs. Young we got Bills/Cowboys. AAAARGGGH.

one point on the 9ers game, that return man williams got that long KO return that gave the 9ers the chance to score a TD, shame he has to be lambastedthe way he has been

Did you hear how Bush League SF's fans were during the National Anthem?

Every time a non SF player was shown on the CC TV they booed, while the Anthem was being broadcasted. Complete scum. The owner should fire the whole lot as season ticket holders....

Now simply look up the rule and then come back and tell everyone why libs and sports are a bad retorting combo...

I Love it when Sanduskee-OC tries to portray 'liberals' as somehow not liking or being involved in sports.

According his kind, you cant get more 'leftist' than Massachusetts and yet they've had Championship teams in all major sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball & Hockey) in the last decade, not to mention regular sellout crowds.

I'm still curled up in the corner crying like a fucking baby.

PS Pats are gonna DESTROY the G-men (bunch of losers).

Ha ha, I love watching "fans" trying to explain away why their team woulda, coulda, shoulda won. This is the match-up that most fans wanted to see...certainly was my preference. Actually, I just hate the Ravens so I wouldn't have minded if San Fran won.

Williams gets the rap in SF, but give credit to the GMen for causing the fumble. That is what making plays is all about. Ahmad Bradshaw did not fumble, because the whistle had blown. What happens after the whistle is irrelevant. The ref blows the whistle when he thinks the play has stopped...it is purely a judgment call. The Lee Evans "catch" was nearly a thing of beauty, but the rookie NE cornerback made the play of the game. That pass from Flacco could not have been thrown any better! 2 excellent games to watch yesterday!!

"PS Pats are gonna DESTROY the G-men (bunch of losers)."

Why, are they back to cheating?

#87 boo hoo. does it matter. they are gonna wear the ring while the GMen snivel and whine.

"#87 boo hoo. does it matter. they are gonna wear the ring while the GMen snivel and whine."

They haven't won a Superbowl since they league forced them to stop cheating but one three while they were cheating so I'd say it matters. You seemed pretty confident even though a less healthy Giants team beat them at home earlier this year so I thought maybe you had an inside scoop on a new way they found to cheat.
