Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A powerful flare erupted from the sun Thursday, unleashing a plasma wave that may supercharge the northern lights for skywatchers in high latitudes this weekend. The solar flare at 11:30 am Eastern touched off a massive solar explosion -- known as a coronal mass ejection -- aimed at Earth that should arrive by Saturday night. "High-latitude (and possibly middle-latitude) sky watchers should be alert for auroras this weekend," the skywatching website Spaceweather.com said in an alert.

Really?!? No one is that stupid.
You're way too obvious. Why don't you go be a troll in some other thread.

From www.solarham.com

CME Update: From the SWPC: SWPC Forecasters have determined that the CME from NOAA Region 1402 near disk center yesterday will likely pass above (north) of Earth. This glancing blow will cause just G1 (Minor) Geomagnetic Storm activity. Look for the first signs of it around 1800Z (1:00 pm EST) on Sunday, January 22, with the bulk of the disturbance to occur Monday, January 23.

Looks like most of it'll miss us, but I'll still keep an eye out, to see if the Aurora can be seen this far south.

.

Still hoping to see one one day.

It's been a while since I've seen one, but they are amazing.

You should go work on a rig in Alaska, some winter. But be sure it's not during a solar minimum.

I don't want to see one that badly. LOL

I'll wait until I'm in a position to hop on a plane north during a CME

Quick! Raise our taxes, start a new bureaucracy and curtail more of our rights to counter this threat!

Zat... it's actually a CME. Not a solar flare. Headline fail. I thought you were a scientist.

Damn.

I was hoping this would take out Buffalo.

"Still hoping to see one one day."

We used to see them from here every winter but it's been a while now. Have to keep an eye out this time... if it stops snowing.

It's suppose to snow here all weekend. :(

I heard it would be a glancing blow at best, or rather, at worst.

Hopefully I will get a picture this time if they charge the atmosphere again into a display of the Northern Lights!

I saw the image in the fifth picture right after sunset 10/25/11 and thought nothing of it, dismissed it as just an unusual sunset.

"Massive solar flare heading our way"!!!

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

???

Maybe if we give the United States Government more power and control over our lives and more of our money they can save us.

"Massive solar flare heading our way"!!!

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

quick, Give Rmoney another tax cut. That'll save us!

"Bushes....

Ah never mind.

Let's hope it hits Israel. Solve all the worlds problems in a "flash".

Great photos Dave from your link.

It's raining here and pretty sure we are too far south..;o(

Personally, Spud blames JJ Abrams over-use of lens flare in the last ST reboot pic for this massive solar flare.

Still not entirely sure if correlation indicates causation here but Spud has a pretty strong hunch that's what's happening here.

Be Well.

Zat... it's actually a CME. Not a solar flare. Headline fail. I thought you were a scientist.

The guy who uses his peer reviewed swimming pool to gauge global warming?

I didn't write the headline either time, scooter.
Try again.

They affect the weather and communications!

known as a coronal mass ejection

Just had one of those this morning.

That's wonderful. Next time wait until AFTER you leave the grocery store. Clean up on isle 7.

What would be worse striking the Earth, a Coronal Mass Ejection...

...or a Mass CO2 Ejection?

The forgotten Sun. She must be really pissed at old man CO2, for taking all her credit.
