Ralph Nader: How unbecoming it is for the self-styled freedom-loving Wall Street Journal ("Ron Paul Nader?" Dec. 21) to use the politically bigoted word "spoiler" to describe a hypothetical Ron Paul-Libertarian party presidential run.

Why is a third-party candidate called a "spoiler" when the nominees of the Republican and Democratic parties, that have given us a spoiled political system (corrupted by the highest bidder) are never referred to in such a pejorative way? These two decaying parties do not own the voters in this country, though they act that way through their many state laws obstructing outside competition.

Ah, unless you're Ron Paul and you've been paid off. Douche.

Ralph Nader could never be an effective commander-in-chief. That he'd even try to do shows what a megalomaniacal douche-bag he always has been.

A third party would represent who? Democrats already represent the left, and the Republicans represent the right.

The federal government is a monopoly and it works like one, they represent themselves not the public. Having a third party won't change a thing.

That might make sense if there was a universal understanding of what "left" and "right" mean, but there isn't. Within the Republican Party alone, right can mean small government (at least until George Will leaves this world), or it can mean Christian conservative, or it can mean corporatist, for example.

I'd like to see the two parties' stranglehold end, and movement toward a multi-party system.

This article isn't ab and I out Nader, douchebag. You have something on topic to offer?

ab and I out -- #6 | Posted by Hagbard_Celine

Lol. My cat's been helping this morning, too.

Yeah, an auto complete error. I was posting while I was getting breakfast. The article is not about Nader. And Letusbrey is still a douche.

First of all I'm not against having a 3rd party or multiple parties. If you break out social conservatives from the Republican party you still have the same results you just have multiple parties that are smaller.

If you break up the Democratic Party into 4 political parties, those 4 will have to compromise to get anything done which will be like having one Democratic Party.

I voted for Nader in the last election. He was the only candidate I respected, despite his political views.

Spoiler, no. Spoilers are people who promise hope and change and then deliver you into deeper debt and deeper governmental power and more war.

Nader often gets charged with "electing Bush". I'm ashamed to say I was one of those pressing that charge.

Looking back on it now? I hate that bullshit. Nader didn't cost Gore the election, GORE cost Gore the election. Gore was trying to ride in on Clinton's sails, and acted like he had the election in the bag from day one. He got even more smug when he saw who he was running against. Anyone who feels obligated to vote against someone is missing the point. You're supposed to cast the vote for the candidate you believe would be best for the country, not for the one that "isn't that guy" or "could beat that guy". The disgusting behavior of the Democrats towards Mrs. Clinton in 2008 really brought this all home for me.

Can you say Perot?

Welcome home, Sohei.

"Gore was trying to ride in on Clinton's sails, and acted like he had the election in the bag from day one."

I remember Gore doing his darnedest to differentiate himself with WJC, who was stuck in the middle of Lewinsky-gate at the time.

"He got even more smug when he saw who he was running against."

That I still can't blame him for, though I'm sure it played a role in his loss. I mean, seriously, the only way you could not have adopted a position of smugness was if you already had a poor opinion of the intelligence of Americans. After the fact, well I guess the truth was painfully unavoidable, but before that, well you had to have hope, man.

Nader is right it is only in the interests of Democrats and Republicans to pretend that 2 parties can realistic represent the views of 300+ million people

A third party would only work if there were four parties to dillute the base of both Dem and Repub parties...
