As far as engineering awards - it sounds like a good thing. But why honor achievment in LCDs when they already work in big and small models (laptops to TVs) and there are life-challenging things like desalination for water/food vs 7B people on earth? It seems the criteria for selecting the winners is fucked up.

Just one personal example is that my "passive desalination pump" invention still has no $ investors while my "{can't name proprietary radar thing}" is going forward (unless it gets "classified" (which is against my wishes)). It means there's widespread prioritization of "national security" over things like food production and health.

Entertainment technology is part of that skewed prioritization set too. Like the biggest driver to display technology IS PORN. I'll bet those women with hairy pits look gr8 in high def.
