"We just feel very let down by the administration and Obama for not supporting us," one studio chief explained to me. "At least let him remain neutral and not go against it until we can get the legislation right. But Obama went against it. I'm personally not going to support him anymore and not give a dime anymore," another movie mogul who's also a well-known Obama supporter told me this week.

Alarmed by the mogul boycott, Sarandos sent a personal plea to the Hollywood studio chiefs over the weekend begging them to continue supporting the Obama re-election campaign even though he knows they are disappointed with the Obama administration's position on the piracy bills. Several moguls, in response, "sent back word saying "Fuck You" basically," one insider tells me,

Do I detect a little hostility?

As of September 2011 these 357 elite bundlers were directing at least $55,900,000 for Obama's re-election efforts - money that has gone into the coffers of his campaign as well as the Democratic National Committee, according to opensecrets.org.

Obama Email: "We Rely on Ordinary Americans" for Campaign Cash

Never mind that President Obama left California today with millions of dollars in fresh campaign cash gathered from hundreds of his wealthiest donors.

Obama says what sets his campaign apart from any other is that “we rely on ordinary Americans giving what they can "one grassroots donation at a time."

Obama has offered to place a personal phone call to a select group of supporters who give as $3. His campaign is also running a sweepstakes for grassroots supporters to win dinner with the president.

At $3.00 per donation it will only require the Obama campaign 18,633,333 donations to make up for the loss of the Hollywood elite bundlers, Better get busy boys

Stand strong, President. The dark forces of the entertainment industry will try to destroy you like they are trying to destroy our freedoms; you must fight back.

As I understand it, the entertainment industry is not trying to destroy anyone's freedoms; they simply want the copyright laws extended to protect them from internet abuse. That's not the problem with the bill; the problem is that the bill is written so broadly that forces who do indeed wish to destroy our freedoms will be able to use it as well.

Tough spot for Obama and I don't envy him, but I pray he is strong (for once) and shows some backbone (for once) and does the right thing and not the politically profitable thing like he always does.

Fuck those Hollywood vultures. Show some spine, Obama.

Not to worry. Silicon valley has more money. If Hollywood don't like it then they can just do something else with their money. Nobody asked them to make movies in first place. The RIAA is obsolete. The new music business model has shifted away from recordings to performances for profit. You no longer need million dollar studio the produce an album. Besides the RIAA steals more money from artists then they save.

When the Hollywood libs drop you, you are in BIG trouble.

I wonder what Reagan would do? Or Fred Thompson... Or Arnold... Or the rest of right wing Hollywood politicians.

They are not going to drop him.

What's Hollywood going to do? Give their money to some rightwing, anti-choice, anti-gay bigot like Lamar Smith?

Hollyforth is going to have a real problem now.

What's Hollywood going to do? Give their money to some rightwing, anti-choice, anti-gay bigot like Lamar Smith?

um, keep it? With revenues down due to the bad economy, hollywood probably isn't as awash with cash as they were in 2008. Given that and their not so veiled disgust with Obama, they'll simply keep their pocketbooks closed.

Or is there some law that says Hollywood must take a political stance?

Hell, you don't even hear the mouthpieces of '08 anymore. Where are Babs, Alec, and that dickhead who used to be married to Madonna? Something "Penn"

"Or is there some law that says Hollywood must take a political stance?"

No but lots of conservatives go on and on about all that America-hating and liberalism (which said speakers tend to say are the same thing) in Hollywood. So doesn't that mean they (Hwood) would want to keep that going? I mean the liberalism in the WH. Isn't Obama a commie-liberal-progressive-
pinko-fag? IOW, one of theirs?

"So far the most outspoken mogul against the Obama administration on this issue has been Rupert Murdoch who on Saturday told his new Twitter audience: “So Obama has thrown in his lot with Silicon Valley paymasters who threaten all software creators with piracy, plain thievery.”

Some folks would love to portray this as a major stumbling block for Obama but he will gain more money in donations because of his principled stand than he loses.

Probably just a coincidence that on the same day as the Hollywood folks put the smack down on Barry 2012 funds.

US government hits Megaupload with mega piracy indictment

The US government has closed down one of the world's largest filesharing websites, accusing its founders of racketeering, money laundering and presiding over "massive" online piracy.

According to prosecutors, Megaupload illegally cheated copyright holders out of $500m in revenue as part of a criminal enterprise spanning five years.

The only moguls mentioned in the article are 1. Rupert Murdock, 2. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, and 3. Fox Filmed Entertainment Chairman Jim Gianopulos.

This piece reads like Right wing propaganda.
