Timothy Egan: In theory, the Tea Party's calls for revolutionary pride and citizen power would jolt the sclerotic heart of Washington. In practice, the Tea Party has proved to be a fraud, betraying the professed ideals from which it sprang. ... In truth, the Tea Party gang never intended to govern, or -- God forbid -- compromise. They were birthed by Fox News and right-wing radio, where fact-challenged outrage is the blood that keeps the heart pumping.

All very true. Nothing more than a bunch of useful idiots.

Pretty weak article. He doesn't enlarge on the link between the party and the media. Could be because of his "link" to the Times which we all know is "fair and balanced".

Could be he was working with a word limit. It's a good article and dead-on when it comes to the fraudulent aspect of the Teabaggers.

In criminal law, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual; the related adjective is fraudulent.

en.wikipedia.org

Who exactly committed the fraud? Words mean things. What fraud?

You've used the word, now tell us about this fraudulent activity you believe occurred.

Specifically, think like a prosecutor now if you can, what fraud?

fraudulent |ˈfrôjələnt|
adjective
obtained, done by, or involving deception, esp. criminal deception : the fraudulent copying of American software.
• unjustifiably claiming or being credited with particular accomplishments or qualities : he unmasked fraudulent psychics.

Works perfectly in the context of this article. Changing the context to "criminal" so you can try and score some "point" makes you appear desperate.

What works perfectly, what is the non-criminal fraud then? Explain what you mean or shut the fuck up about it.

What is fraudulent about the Tea Party? Didn't they just get 9 European countries downgraded like they cause to happen in the U.S.?

With that kind of substance, there must be something to this party. So again, what is fraudulent.

You used the word, now please explain. If you can.

The only thing worth quoting is this......

"In the presidential race,Ron Paul, the daft, grandfatherly skinflint who wants to cut a trillion dollars in federal spending right off the top, should be leading the movement’s parade. But polls in key primary states show that people who describe themselves as Tea Party members support Mitt Romney,Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum".

As Scarborough said this morning - with Huntsman out, that leaves the Primary voters a choice between 3 big government Republicans (Scarborough discounts Ron Paul).

TEA PARTY=REPUBLICAN PARTY...FOX NEWS PROPAGANDIST!!!!!!!

If any member of the Tea Party is not supporting Ron Paul, then they should not call themselves the Tea Party but the radical right of the republican wing of the Big Government Party. (note Danni would be the ridical left of the democrate wing of the Big Government party). Paul is the only one that walks the walk of the Tea Party movement. That is why you are really hearing nothing from the Tea Party as they know that they are all talk and cannot handle the truth.

Could be he was working with a word limit. It's a good article and dead-on when it comes to the fraudulent aspect of the Teabaggers.

Could be both of you are working with a knowlege limit.

"Didn't they just get 9 European countries downgraded like they cause to happen in the U.S.?"

Huh???

"They were birthed by Fox News and right-wing radio"

www.cnbc.com

Doh!...at least he got the neighborhood dogs barking.

I think the article is unfair. The 2008 Tea Party is a fraud. The Tea Party that existed prior and that was hijacked by Fox News and others was very very true to its core set of principles and of course quite small.

As I predicted, the Tea Party will be completely forgotten in a few weeks since there is no way ever the brilliant brainwashers at Fuck Snooze can twist the tiny minds of their viewers enough to reconcile Underwear Boy with the supposed goals of the tea party.

All that is left will be a bunch of mouthbreathers with chilly foreheads getting a 24/7 Mormon Moron political ad between now and November.

Fuck Snooze will become 100% pro-Moron in about 3.2.1......

So when they supported Angel they were stupid because she was un-electable, now they support a more electable candidate that may not stand for all their values, and now they are labeled a fraud.

You can't have it both ways make up your mind.

"Paul is the only one that walks the walk of the Tea Party movement."

And you'd surely vote for him if he gets the nomination....right?

OR...you'd vote for the Great Community Organizer, Obammus Magnanimus, who represents ALL the goals of "progressives"...like expanding the Patriot Act, keeping Guantanamo, hiring CEO's and lobbyists, flushing BILLIONS of taxpayer money with "green" projects etc. etc.

Lemme guess.....Riiiight.

"You can't have it both ways make up your mind."

What "mind?"

"You can't have it both ways make up your mind."

What "mind?"

Americans in 2012, although only a few are aware, live in a concentration camp that is far better controlled than the one portrayed by George Orwell in 1984. Orwell, writing in the late 1940s could not imagine the technology that makes control of populations so thorough as it is today. Orwell's protagonist could at least have hope. In 2012 with the erasure of privacy by the US government, protagonists can be eliminated by hummingbird-sized drones before they can initiate a protest, much less a rebellion.

Never in human history has a people been so easily and willingly controlled by a hostile government as Americans, who are the least free people on earth. And a large percentage of Americans still wave the flag and chant USA! USA! USA!

On January 4, 2012, the Obama regime announced by decree, not by legislation, the creation of the Bureau of Counterterrorism which will among other tasks "seek to strengthen homeland security, countering violent extremism."

Take a moment to think. Do you know of any "violent extremism" happening in the US? The regime is telling you that it needs a new police bureau with unaccountable powers to "strengthen homeland security" against a nonexistent bogyman.

So who will be the violent extremists who require countering by the Bureau of Counterterrorism? It will be peace activists, the Occupy Wall Street protesters, the unemployed and foreclosed homeless. It will be whoever the police state says. And there is no due process or recourse to law.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who is not owned lock, stock, and barrel by the military-security complex, Wall Street, and the Israel Lobby.

All of the others, including President Obama, are owned by exactly the same interest groups. There are no differences between them. Every candidate except Ron Paul stands for war and a police state, and all have demonstrated their complete and total subservience to Israel. The fact that there is no difference between them is made perfectly clear by the absence of substantive issues in the campaigns of the Republican candidates.

Given the facts before you, you are out of your mind if you think Ron Paul's rhetoric against the welfare state is more important than his defense of liberty. If you don't want it to happen here, you had better figure out some way to get Ron Paul into the Presidency and to get him a cabinet and subcabinet that will support him.

excerpted from Paul Craig Roberts

Ignorance + inherited wealth = Tea Party = blissfully dumb people in charge of shit.

"Ignorance + inherited wealth = Tea Party = blissfully dumb people in charge of shit."

The "blissfully dumb people" who led an historical 2010 election and working to lead another. If they are so "blissfully stupid," how stupid does that make YOU and your little "progressive" butt buddies?

Fraud?

lol

That's why there are 40 house members who identify themselves as tea party thinkers.

And a few in the Senate.

That's not counting the thousands who are elected in local and state governments. And they will move up the political ladder in the years to come.

Where are the OWS on getting involved in the political process to effect change?

The Tea Party is made up mostly of Boomers who grew up and went to good public schools, attended college for little or no cost, enjoyed good paying jobs in America due to the fact that we didn't operate on a free trade basis as we do today. They enjoyed all the fruits of our system pre-REagan then grew up, got good jobs and then wanted their own taxes slashed. We then started running up debt which they told us didn't matter. Now we are heavily in debt, the wealthy still don't want to pay higher taxes and thus we will cut spending for everything that effects anyone under 55 years old but those same selfish boomers will make damn sure they don't sacrifice one stinking thing. the Boomers, the most priveleged and the most selfish generation in the history of the world.

-tea party thinkers

Oxymoron Alert!

If Paul does not get the nomination (which he won't)I will be voting for Johnson for Pres if I even vote at all. I am tired of voting for the Big Government Clowns (either sub-party). The only way to stop the maddness is to do something different. We as a nation have not been doing something different for the past 60 years (or more).

America will not be restored to sanity until this constituency dies off.

George Carlin's take:
www.youtube.com

If the Tea Party was anything but a wholly owned subsidiary of the GOP, Michelle Batshit would have won Iowa, not Mitt Obama. They were bought and paid for by billionaires like Murdoch and the Koch Brothers to do a job-get elected and do nothing. In that, they have succeeded.

Now they are instructed to elect a Wall Street meat puppet President.

Now they are instructed to elect a Wall Street meat puppet President to replace the old Wall Street meat puppet President.

You mean like the one we have now. Really slick, they get a meat puppet no matter who wins, and we the people are fucked.

Given how little Obama's draw has been from Wall Street this election cycle, I'd say that argument works in his favor these days.

The fact is that the Tea Party is a grassroots effort that has done a lot to enpower those who didn't believe that we the people count anymore. What is a fraud, a political arm of the Obama campaign is the OWS joke. And even when you take out the drug use, the rapes, the violence, it is still apparent what this astroturf garbage is all about.

Nancy Pelosi is a prime example of how fake this whole OWS protest thing is. When the Tea Party was holding rallies across the country, peaceful, organized, and permit purchased, she was crying that it brought back bad memories of the crazy and dangerous protests of the 60's where she was scared for her life. Uh huh. When asked about the OWS protests with the crime, rapes, drugs, deaths, etc., her response was "God bless them" and how wonderful and healthy it was. Uh, ok.

The fact is that the Tea Party is a "grassroots effort" organized, funded, and directed by political whores like Dick Armey, one that has done a lot to enpower those who didn't believe in exercising responsibility in governance.

That is that the weakest post attempting to sound intelligent, full of holes and general bullshit.

OWS is made up of predominantly rich college kids with their designer phones, staying at the top hotels in the area, living off their liberal parents who are footing the bill so they can see junior relive their hippy days. The rest are made up of the old hippies wanting to relive their Woodstock days, or the homeless who are bussed in and payed by ACORN and Obama's union buddies. Isn't it funny how he is glad to see them "attacking" WS while he makes millions from their donations. hmmmmmm, curious indeed.

No, they are a very strong counter to unions.
Unions that take the members dues (Mandatory) and spends it on the party they want.....not everybody in the union agrees with what the union is doing with their money.

An today MOST union members DO NOT LIKE OBAMA, they may talk the talk at meetings, but they will not pull the lever for Obama.

.....NOPE IN NOVEMBER......

"Unions that take the members dues (Mandatory) "

Good God, you are one stupid son-of-a-bitch. Folks haven't had to be mandatory members of Unions and pay dues if they didn't want since the Beck decision of 1988.

Oh, I get it. The Tea Party is a fraud because there ain't no fucking tea!

Now I understand what the fuss is over. There ain't no fucking tea. That does sound a little like false advertising.

It is as I said in the beginning...

the Tea Party is the Libertarian Party
is the Republican Party...

there is NO difference...

All racist, all white, all anti-environment,
all pro-millionaire at the expense of the little guy...

Is that a fact? You don't have to belong to a union to build airplanes. I thought that a huge new factory in SC couldn't be used over that issue.

You are right in the fact that there are SOME union members that don't like little o.

Union dues are taken out of your pay check before you even get the check and the union bosses spend it any way they like.

I am thinking you don't know diddly shit dan fart.

Folks haven't had to be mandatory members of Unions and pay dues if they didn't want since the Beck decision of 1988.

You're playing semantics. Mandatory membership in a union is illegal, but you still are required to pay the union an amount that they determine was your share of the cost of collective bargaining on you behalf, which they call 'fees', not dues...an amount that likely vastly exceeds the actual cost. See the Washington vs Washington Education Association for the SCOTUS ruling regarding how the union can spend that money.

"You're playing semantics"

I'm telling the truth and correcting misinformation.

"the cost of collective bargaining on you behalf"

You're pretending the collective bargaining duties stop the minute the contract is signed.

"...an amount that likely vastly exceeds the actual cost."

Bullshit; you're making that up. We go to great pains every year to make sure it equals the actual cost, and we have to be able to prove it.

"Union dues are taken out of your pay check before you even get the check"

That's called dues checkoff, and we've found most workers prefer that to writing a separate check. And the worker can always opt-out, and pay the dues or fees separately if he wants.

"...and the union bosses spend it any way they like."

Unions are non-profits run by a Board, almost always comprised of worker-volunteers, who hire staff, oversee the management of the organization, and give the marching orders, based on what the rank-and-file tell them. Finances are micro-managed, and budgets laid out about a year to a year and a half ahead. Union bosses can't "spend it any way they like", they have to get approval from an Administrative Committee and the Board for anything over and above the set budget.

"I am thinking you don't know diddly shit"

KBM, the ultimate bring-a-knife-to-a-gunfight fighter.

DF,
You are speaking from experience with YOUR union..not all unions. Look at the history of the WEA I mentioned in #61 to see how the WEA was spending money on campaign contributions.

"In 1996, EFF filed a campaign finance complaint against the WEA, on behalf of a group of teachers. The complaint accused the WEA of using union dues for political activities without its members’ consent. In 1998 the union settled the case, agreeing to pay more than $400,000 in fines and refunds.

EFF filed another complaint with the state Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) in February 2000, alleging that the WEA union did not obtain the teachers’ permission to use their dues for political purposes.

In May 2001 the PDC sued the WEA for more than $600,000, after determining that the union did in fact misspend dues as alleged by EFF. At issue was the WEA’s use of “fees” paid by nonmembers. About 4,000 of the 70,000 teachers the union represented were nonmembers. They paid fees for collective bargaining and other nonpolitical services. However, the state attorney accused the WEA of improperly mixing nonmember payments with regular union members, and spending part of that money on political action.

In July 2001, a state superior court ruled against the union and ordered it to pay a $400,000 fine and $200,000 in legal costs. But a state appeals court and the Washington Supreme Court later ruled for the WEA, holding that Initiative 134 “unduly burdens unions” and is unconstitutional.

In June 2007 the U.S. Supreme Court overturned that Washington Supreme Court ruling. In Washington v. Washington Education Association, the Court ruled that states can require public-employee labor unions to get consent from workers before using their fees for political purposes."
activistcash.com

"Look at the history of the WEA "

Yeah: they overstepped their bounds, and the rank-and-file reigned them in. Exactly as it's supposed to work.

-and the rank-and-file reigned them in

I didn't see where that was mentioned. I see them being sued and a court levying a fine, etc.. nothing about the rank and file.

They weren't asked. My wife was her school's union president in Wa. state during this time, and neither she or anyone at the district offices were ever asked, much less the rank-and-file members. I think you'd be a fool to believe that this was an isolated case.

"I think you'd be a fool to believe that this was an isolated case."

Well since the courts aren't flooded with cases like this, I think you'd be a fool to believe they're commonplace.

#68, what is the latest estimate on the percentage of rapes that go unreported?

"what is the latest estimate on the percentage of rapes that go unreported?"

What an uninformed parallel. Unions must file public documents regarding their finances.
