My grandfather has pictures of US Marines during WWII holding bloody machetes in one hand and Japanese heads in the other. He thought he threw them away but hadn't and me being me, I found one these pics about a second after he handed me a box of his old WWII pictures to look at.... Never found out the story behind the picture or if grandpa was involved (he was a machine gunner on bombers so its unlikely that he would have seen live Japanese on the ground). When I asked him about it, he got quiet and put the box away, obviously upset. It wasn't until years after he had passed away that I realized that he wasn't mad at me that day but at himself. I wish I could have explained to him back then that an old black and white photo couldn't disturb me after having been exposed to 80's slasher movies.
