Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, January 12, 2012

After he was challenged by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Congressional Republicans to prove his distaste for his own low tax rate by voluntarily paying more in taxes, billionaire investor Warren Buffett pledged to match 1 for 1 all voluntary tax contributions made by Republican members of Congress. "And I'll even go 3 for 1 for McConnell," he said.

Why do these guys try to fuck with Buffet? I'm just waiting for them to resort to dirty means to strip Buffet of everything he has so they can feel better about themselves.

Mr. Buffett continuing his favors back to Obama for canceling the Keystone deal and thus Buffett enriches himself and his railroad.

Crony capitalism--he should shut up.

Really pisses you off when he exposes the Republicans' hypocrisy, doesn't it? Let's see how much money McConnell puts up. Bet it's zero.

"enriches himself and his railroad"

what's wrong with that?

Because he KNEW OBAMA WAS GOING TO CANCEL IT AND BOUGHT UP HIS RAILROAD--See...

He's going to get bit on his wrinkled butt for saying this kind of stuff.

Doing Obama's dirty work.

"Let's see how much money McConnell puts up. Bet it's zero."

I bet it's ten times that much.

Wow!

You are a generous person.

"10 times zero! Wow! You are a generous person."

Hell, make it a hundred times. I've got more than that in my pocket!

PANEOCON to Warren Buffett - Pay your fucking taxes or shut the fuck up.

Unless I'm mistaken, he bought the railroad years before Obama was elected to office. One of us is wrong. Since you made the claim, please look up your source.

"Pay your fucking taxes or shut the fuck up."

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Another small government type cheering on government as bully.

BTW...here's something you probably didn't know: the IRS admits over half the bills they send out are incorrect. No one should pay a massive tax bill until they're sure they owe. If it adds interest or penalties, so be it, but don't crap on someone for fulfilling his civic duty.

As usual you would be wrong

Warren Buffett, hypocrite

This one's truly, uh ... rich: Billionaire Warren Buffett says folks like him should have to pay more taxes -- but it turns out his firm, Berkshire Hathaway, hasn't paid what it's already owed for years.

“We anticipate that we will resolve all adjustments proposed by the US Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) for the 2002 through 2004 tax years ... within the next 12 months,” the firm's annual report says.

add another reason why being a billionaire is awesome..

you can tell people whats up and not worry about it..

#14 - Berkshire Hathaway is a publicly traded company. Warren Buffet is an individual. Find a story about "Warren Buffet" to back up your claims about Warren Buffet. Fuck you're stupid.

A Billionaire $1 for $1? LOL That's like a Democrat congressman telling a janitor they'll match the janitor's donation $1 for $1.

.
#16 | Posted by BruceBanner

And what do you have to say about Cheney and Halliburton or Bush and big oil or even Romney and Bain Capital?

#18 - If they're listening: Hire me as CEO.

What a fool Buffett is. It would be like me saying that I'm willing to match food donations dollar-for-dollar with some Haitian living on the street.

Buffett has tens of billions of dollars squirreled away in Gates' tax-exempt foundation. Asked why, he said that he and his family are better stewards of their money than the government is.

And a hundred million other families, including McConnell's and mine, feel exactly the same way. He's a preposterous windbag, and a selfish dick. And every day I flick on CNBC I get to hear what a great man he is. Whatever.

Buffett has pledged to match 1 for 1 all such voluntary contributions made by Republican members of Congress.

Hero Flag!

Balls in yer court, Turtleboy.

Be Well.

In 2010, Yertl's personal net worth was between $9.8M and $44.5M, making him the 10th wealthiest US senator. Source: www.opensecrets.org

There's some pretty pathetic rightbot bobbing-and-weaving dancing going on in this thread today.

It's very simple for Yertl: Yes or no? Put up or shut up.

Who knew a dumbass who doesn't understand basic logic could get so rich? McConnell isn't the one calling for higher taxes, Buffett is. Therefore, Buffett should be the one donating money to the treasury.

Buffett hasn't even paid the back taxes he owes, right now. Over a billion dollars. You really think he's going to cut a check to the Treasury except under the threat of federal prison?

I love the fact that he's libbies' favorite billionaire, along with Gates and Soros. I love the fact that he's ridiculous fool, whose comments get pasted to every libtard's Facebook. I love the fact that he laid off 35,000 people in 2008-2009, despite receiving bailouts from the Treasury department. I love how stupid he makes other liberals look when they say that the world would be so much better if the Buffett Rule (higher income taxes) went into effect, when Buffett insists on leaving capital gains alone, where he made $10 billion last year. I love the fact that he's a big-government liberal who has his entire net worth poured into a tax-exempt foundation, that the Treasury can't touch when he keels over dead.

"Buffett has pledged to match 1 for 1 all such voluntary contributions made by Republican members of Congress."

Here's an idea. How about a percentage? If McConnell sends 10% of his net worth to the Treasury to reduce the debt, will Buffett match it with 10% of his own?

"McConnell isn't the one calling for higher taxes"

Just the guy deflecting from the idiocy of the tax code by suggesting Buffett voluntarily send in a check.

Here's an idea. How about a percentage? If McConnell sends 10% of his net worth to the Treasury to reduce the debt, will Buffett match it with 10% of his own?

Here's an idea how about the GOP in Congress and the Senate STFU stop playing stupid games and do their fucking jobs for once in their lives?

Just a thought.

Face it, the GOP's attempts top embarrass Buffet have blown up in their faces beautifully here no matter how much you try to spin otherwise.

Be Well.

Just the guy deflecting from the idiocy of the tax code by suggesting Buffett voluntarily send in a check.

And? Even if McConnell's argument is a stupid one, it doesn't logically lead to matching contributions between he and Buffett.

"Even if McConnell's argument is a stupid one"

No "even if". Instead of addressing the incredible unfairness of the tax code, McConnell's response is if Buffett thinks it's that bad, he should unilaterally disadvantage himself to prove his ideological purity.

It's pants-on-head retardation.

Buffett voluntarily send in a check.

Posted by Danforth at 2012-01-12 10:24 AM | Reply

I don't understand why he would not? I'm am not forced to give to charity, I do it voluntarily if I want them to continue their work. I give money voluntarily to utilities who's services I desire. I give money voluntarily to store who's products I desire.

Yet, armed men force me by threat of violence to give them money in exchange for their shitty services and to perpetuate violence and terror around the world and call themselves either the government or the mafia, and I should somehow be happy about this?

If Mr. Buffett wants more government he should pony up for it instead of begging to have men with guns come take it from him. I mean, why wait to get mugged when you could just voluntarily give the mugger money and hope he doesn't hurt you?

Taxes, by their very definition, are unfair. All confiscation of private property is unfair. All indentured servitude is unfair.

The only fair tax code would be a voluntary tax code.

No "even if". Instead of addressing the incredible unfairness of the tax code, McConnell's response is if Buffett thinks it's that bad, he should unilaterally disadvantage himself to prove his ideological purity.

How does that make Buffet's illogical challenge any less stupid? Oh, right, anything to defend/deflect from an Obama crony.

McConnell was engaged in a classic tu quoque fallacy.

Buffett wants higher taxes on his income class.
Buffett doesn't voluntarily pay higher taxes.
Ergo, Buffett's a hypocrite.
Ergo, taxes shouldn't be raised on his income class.

Instead of addressing the incredible unfairness of the tax code, McConnell's response is if Buffett thinks it's that bad, he should unilaterally disadvantage himself to prove his ideological purity.

Whatever your opinion on McConnell's response is, Buffett's challenge does not logically follow. Address that or stop responding to me since that's all I'm talking about.

Buffett is happy with the "unfairness" in the tax code. His whole business is based on it. That's why he buys out companies with Berkshire stock, instead of cash. That's why he owes over a billion in back taxes.

As much as he pretends to be outraged by his low tax rates, he's not even willing to pay what Bush told him to. He's fighting the IRS as we speak. But we're supposed to believe he wants to pay even more?

He's just a lying, hypocritical douchebag. You know. A liberal.

How about this. If your net worth is over $10 billion, you have to pay capital gains taxes and income taxes at the same rate, and if you're late, you go to prison. That's Buffett's "class", it's fair, and we can start right now by sending deputies to this douchenozzle's house in Omaha.

McConnell should counter: I'm willing to give half of my net worth to the Treasury for deficit reduction, if Warren is willing to do the same.

Actually, I take that back. It's Buffett and the Democrats who pretend to want higher taxes. Conservatives know that sending in money to Obama's sink pit is worse than taking it outside and setting it on fire.

We all know that Buffett won't voluntarily send in a dime. Buffett knows that raising taxes on people like him won't do a damn thing for the deficit, let alone deficits the magnitude of this retard-in-chief who is running Washington now.

No, it was a cheap talking point from Buffett, then it took on a life of its own as every liberal in America pretended he was a great and generous man. And he is, as long as the money isn't his.

All these pseudo-billionaires here worrying about taxes that real billionaires pay, I'm sure they appreciate your concerns.

Does irony escape this dumb mother fucker?
The lefties have always demonized the rich and called for them to pay more taxes, yet dummi doesnt seem to be aware of this. Odd, considering she's one of the leading have nots always looking for somebody else to pave the way for her and her like minded failures.

The way the article on yahoo puts it, it sounds like Buffett is saying if you want to reduce the deficit he will gladly pay in and match Republican contributions - a little different thn a call for increase in taxes. Either way, it doesn't make much sense and McConnell's aide had a good comeback - why not include Democrats in the matching program?

I do agree with Buffett on this though:

Buffett said in the Time interview the United States needed a tax system that favored people who were not born investors. "We need a tax system that takes very good care of people who just really aren't as well adapted to the market system, and to capitalism, but are nevertheless just as good citizens, and are doing things that are of use in society."

No such thing as a born investor. Most fortunes are made after they're lost, over and over again. You have to sink a lot of dry holes before you hit a gusher.

"How does that make Buffet's illogical challenge any less stupid? "

It shows, quite clearly, these guys don't believe that's the way to help the budget.

"He's fighting the IRS as we speak. But we're supposed to believe he wants to pay even more?"

Another moronic concept: how dare Berkshire make sure the taxes they're paying are correct?

In a 2007 CNBC interview, when asked why he shelters his money through tax-free strategies rather than writing big checks to Uncle Sam, Mr. Buffett responded: "I think that on balance the Gates Foundation, my daughter's foundation, my two sons' foundations will do a better job with lower administrative costs and better selection of beneficiaries than the government."

So I agree with Buffett on that one.

"It shows, quite clearly, these guys don't believe that's the way to help the budget."

#53 | Posted by Danforth

It's quite obvious that you are math challenged if you think this could help the budget.

the IRS admits over half the bills they send out are incorrect. No one should pay a massive tax bill

I have just such a story. I goofed on my tax return a few years ago (entered a value from my W2 incorrectly), and they sent me a huge bill. The bill was way off, I just corrected my taxes and refiled them. I paid them the small difference plus a few dollar fee and they were happy. They knew what the error was an they had my filing. It would have been simple to correct the filing and come up with the new number I got, but they didn't.

Actually its Buffett calling for higher taxes he should lead by example. To advocate it, then to tell others to put up first is comical. Buffet is losing it.....

He is leading by example. He's calling for Congress to fix the tax system. He didn't tell others to put up first - he responded to an inane rebuttal about fixing the actual problem from McConnell.

I notice of course no challenge to democrats who are just as rich but I guess even Buffett cant match the trillions the democrats happily pillage from the people for themselves, not to mention they would have to admit the stimulus going on 4 years was nothing more than money for democrats

All Mitch McConnell has to do is put his money where his mouth is.

He has a big mouth, so it shouldn't be any problem putting a lot of money in there.

I notice of course no challenge to democrats

Try following the chain of events, who the players are, who's advocating what, etc.

Never mind. I can see from the rest of your post you aren't tethered to reality.

If McConnell sends 10% of his net worth to the Treasury to reduce the debt, will Buffett match it with 10% of his own?

#25 | Posted by rightisright

What a great idea!

Everyone should only have to pay 10% of their NET wealth at the end of the year.

Hypocrite:
A person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

So does Buffett advocate higher taxes? Yes. Does Buffett go out of his way to make sure he doesn't pay higher taxes? Yes.

Well he fits the definition.

I gather all of this would be between his visits to the White House to find out what his 'NEXT INVESTMENT' is to be! Buffet is fortunate to have such a distinguished man as his co-equal at Berkshire! If not for that he would be picking his stocks just like me - only difference is he would be picking FAR, FAR MORE OF THEM than I!

Heck fire! Why not go 'all out' and just pledge to match, say the budget for the Deptartment of Education instead?

how dare Berkshire make sure the taxes they're paying are correct?

Except, according to Buffett, the current rate is not correct. By paying as little as legally possible, Berkshire is ensuring that they pay, according to Buffett, too little in taxes.

So now he's saying that the rich should pay higher taxes after he made the above comments.

I'll pay twice what I owe in taxes this year if Buffet pays the Billion in back taxes he owes.

-how dare Berkshire make sure the taxes they're paying are correct?

well, a lot of organizations manage to do exactly that.

Are you assuming Berkshire wanted to pay the correct amount?

I mean, it's not like they (companies like BH) hire stage actors who moonlight as accountants to represent them.

Two questions, how many tax attorneys does Buffet employ?

And, do Buffet's tax attorneys seek to lower, or raise Buffet's tax burden?

Buffet says he wants to pay more in taxes, but has an army of tax attorneys keeping his taxes low.

Follow the money. It always leads back to the truth.

"Buffet says he wants to pay more in taxes, but has an army of tax attorneys keeping his taxes low. Follow the money. It always leads back to the truth."

Strange to talk abou the truth when you're lying. You're conflating Buffett the man with BH the corporation, and BH has a fiduciary duty to its shareholders to pay the smallest amount of taxes legally due. Add that to the fact the vast majority of IRS notices are incorrect (as the IRS themselves admit), and you'd have to be a partisan idiot to merge the two issues.

Buffett has said, correctly, the current tax code favors guys like him. He also noted -- correctly -- the last dollar he makes triggers about half the federal taxes as the last dollar his secretary makes.

You'd have to be really, really stupid to think that.

Buffet says Congress should change the tax policy so he has to pay more.

The GOP congressmen call him a hypocrite because he doesn't voluntarily pay higher taxes instead opting for legal tax shelters.

But isn't that the absolute HEIGHT of hypocrisy?

The GOP congressmen are using the SAME GOD DAMN TAX SHELTERS.

GOPiggies just want to protect their wealth.
