So for 64 years, a Beatles magic number, scientists have carefully analyzed our global political environment and varied the clock from 17 to 2 minutes till doomsday.

Apparently it has never occured to them that fear is mainly for domestic consumption, driving military spending. Theya re driving that fear in their own small way. But somehow 64 years doesn't fit very well with 17 or 2 minutes. Could they possibly be full of shit?

Russia was never really a threat to us (though it may have been unsafe to assume that at the time). It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer (in real time) that Cuba, Venezuela, Iraq, Iran and North Korea have never been and can never be a threat to us. China could only become a threat if they nationalize all our investments. At that point our only option would be to do nothing or nuke 'em, because we will no longer be able support a ground force large enough to deal with China. We don't even possess enough bullets to kill every Chinaman.
