Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Republicans in Congress are fighting a U.S. Interior Department plan to ban new mining claims for 20 years on one million acres close to the Grand Canyon. "Uranium remains an important part of our nation's comprehensive energy resources, but it is appropriate to pause, identify what the predicted level of mining and its impacts on the Grand Canyon would be, and decide what level of risk is acceptable to take with this national treasure," said Bureau of Land Management director Bob Abbey.

"...one million acres close to the Grand Canyon."

Deceptive thread title. It's not in the canyon.

Rcade has been doing that a lot. 'Obama Makes "Recess" Appointments' gets the quotes taken out; 'Ban on Mining Near Grand Canyon' loses 'near'.

GOP opposes move

If he had the cure for cancer, they would oppose it.

The concern is about ground water. Since many people in the area depend on water they don't want to take any chances.

makes sense..

Just because Republicans want to pretend the Senate's not in recess doesn't mean the rest of us have to share the delusion.

Umm, Rcade? The Senate determines if the Senate is in session. Obama does not have that power.

And it was the Democrats that started those pro-forma sessions, Rcade.

Say what you want in the thread, but the headlines should be objective and relate to the actual story, not your interpretation of it.

And thank you for changing this one.

I don't think RCADE needs to follow your rule book. It's his site, he can do what he wants. I thought conservatives were supposed to value property rights.

Fracking in a neighborhood that uses ground water = good, no problem, safe as can be.

Killing millions of brown people in order to steal their natural resources = great, no problem

Mining close to an area where no one lives (and which is not conducted by oil and gas companies) = bad, must be stopped immediately.

Conservatives value money, not people, not the land, not nothing. Evil and ugly on the inside.

Say what you want in the thread, but the headlines should be objective and relate to the actual story, not your interpretation of it.

Headlines should be objective. But when something is so egregiously false it sets off my bullshit detector, I report what I believe is most accurate. For instance, I used the word "war" in headlines about the conflict in Libya even though Obama was not calling it a war. I also use the word "torture," not "enhanced interrogation."

Obama made recess appointments, not "recess" appointments. When the Senate is not engaged in any business other than pretending it is still in session, that's a recess in my book. It'll ultimately be up to the courts to decide whether it's really in recess.

And thank you for changing this one.

You're welcome. The lack of "near" was more important than I thought in posting the news.

Fair enough.

"Headlines should be objective."

Why? This is an opinion site, not a hard news site. The headlines on the front page of the NYT should be objective, but not the titles on the editorial pages.

With people like you supporting them no wonder most liberal states are going broke.

Conservatives care about the unemployed and people with 401ks trying to retire to name a few. The natural resource industry creates GDP, tax revenue, employment and helps people with 401ks trying to retire.

"[T]he Colorado River, which runs through the Grand Canyon, is the source of drinking water for 26 million Americans."

This is probably the only good reason for a 20 year ban. They really really have water issues down there and if the Colorado goes, so does the Southwest.

The Colorado is almost gone already, sycophant, largely due to Vegas, LA and San Diego. LA's rape of the water resources in the Southwest is as egregious an assault on natural resources AND the people whose livelihood depends on them as any in modern history.

Go start your own site and make up whatever headlines you want, dickface.

The natural resource industry creates GDP
With an emphasis on gross.
While casting a blind eye to oil spills and fracking pollution.

tax revenue
Half the major corporations that paid zero Federal taxes are
energy companies. You know, the companies that consume the largest amounts of "natural resources."

employment
It does create employment, particularly of the boom-bust variety.

and helps people with 401ks trying to retire.
Ah, so the wealth "trickles down."
But only to those with a 401(K).
And only if you're in the right fund.

At least there was one Democrat senator that agrees with Arcade and Obama...only one.

According to the law the House has to approve it for the Senate to go on recess.Oh but wait, not so Dear Leader thinks he is above the law.

All you have to remember is that if something is good for America, Obama will be against it.Welcome to the third world Obama style.

This seems like something the Congress should have a vote on.
