Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In October 2009, the national unemployment rate was 10 percent, a national health care plan was at the center of debate over the cost of entitlements in an indebted nation and bank bailouts had launched a brand new political movement called the Tea Party.

So when the White House decided to host an extravagant, Hollywood-created Halloween Party decorated by Tim Burton and featuring Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter role from Burton's acclaimed "Alice in Wonderland," the event was deliberately held on the down-low.

"White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywoodesque party would look to jobless Americans

Well there is at least an acknowledgement that they know it pisses us off when Michelle Antoinette says to "let them eat cake"

Where is the outrage from the libs on this one?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO TELL THIS STORY PLEASE INCLUDE THE WHOLE THING.
In keeping with her dedication to military families, the invitees were the children of military service men and women along with the children of White House employees.
Mrs Obama has invited the children of military families to many of the events she has hosted while first lady, including more recent Halloween trick-or-treating sessions and the unveiling of the White House Christmas decorations- which even had a Gold Star Families tree dedicated to the group.

Where was the outrage from the cancervatives when Dumya MBA was celebrating McCain's birthday as New Orleans drowned?

Obama was just spreading "the candy" around - Danni, Doc, Corky

This is just another example of how detached King Obeezy and Queen Michelle are from reality. Come January 2013, I can see Michelle sitting in a WH bedroom, clutching a pillow, rocking back and forth, repeating "I'm the First Lady...stay behind the rope...I'm the First Lady...stay behind the rope..."

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas loaned out the original Chewbacca costume from the legendary film for an unknown participant to wear, was covered by a front event for the press in which the first couple handed out candy to trick or treaters. The president did not don a costume to that event, but first lady Michelle Obama wore a leopard-print sweater, cat ears and sparkly eye makeup.
Inside, at the invitation-only affair for children of military personnel and White House administrators, the State Dining Room served as Wonderland while Depp greeted guests from a table-top and Burton decorated the White House "in his signature creepy-comic style."
According to the book, fruit punch was served in blood vials and a magic show was held for the kids in the East Room.

It seems nice of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp to entertain the guests. Nice of Lucas to lend the costume. It must have been special for those kids and soldiers.

I don't have a big issue with this but I do with 10 million dollar vacations or 400.00 bottle of ice wine being served don't send the right messsage.

This has been one of my most consistent criticisms of the Obamas - their tone-deafness to public opinions about their lavishness and lack of evident caring in the face of some disasters, a recession and a snail's-paced recovery.

They didn't get their asses down to the Gulf Coast for the longest time after the BP spill.

Michelle went on a jaunt to Spain that cost taxpayers a fortune for protection, never mind that the President was responsible for her direct expenses.

They can't seem to take a vacation in the most cost-effective place - Camp David, which is staffed and secured at all times, costing very little extra when it's being used.

It's going to cost them when the campaign gets in to full swing - maybe not enough to cost them the White House, but they're going to have to listen to what they've been ignoring.

#10 - I can see how that is a problem, but why attack people for volunteering to entertain soldiers and kids? The media is trying to raise a big stink because we recognize the name Johnny Depp. If it were just some Joe Schmo entertainer I don't think it would be a big deal. I am assuming Depp played for free but a no-name would have to be paid, vetted, etc...

It looks bad whenever the Obamas take any time off or any vacation. Even a game of golf - a staple in fostering business relationships - is seen as being off the job.

They can't win this one. George also got pummeled for too much vacation. It's the way it will always be.

Must be some killer "tell all" book if all FOX could dredge out of it is a 2 year old halloween party.

"Everyone has to have some skin in the game. It's a shared sacrifice"
--- Obama (Numerous) ---

A two year old fauxrage about a halloween event for children?

Really?

Really really?

Wow, that is some lamesauce, indeed.

Next time just go ahead and say "We got nothing" right off the bat.

It'll save everyone a lot of time.

Be Well.

/Actually sounds like it was a blast.

You just know it's faux rage rightie bait when the headline says "Extravagant" and "Hollywood". "They handed out candy on Haloween?!?!?!?!" "During a recession?!?!?!?!"

Where is the outrage from the libs on this one?

Outrage over what? Did it cost tons of money? Was it tax payer dollars being spent on lavishly wooing donors and contributors?

No, it was a party for kids.

Big fucking deal.

Shove your faux outrage up your ass dipshit.

Where is the outrage from the libs on this one?

From The Fucking Article: White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Sunday the event, which was decorated by Tim Burton and featured Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter role from Burton's acclaimed "Alice in Wonderland," was held for local children from the Washington D.C.-area and for hundreds of military families.

Why do Republicans hate the US military and their kids so much?

Sekret Commies maybe?

Has anyone checked their birf certifikats recently?

Just askin' questions over here.

Be Well.

As many people have said before, it is not the necessarily the event, bu rather the coverup that is the problem.

Why hide it? They said they hid it because they thought it would be inconsistent with their message at the time... that sounds hypocritical.

So they hid the story so as not to look hypocritical? That just gives merit to their actually being hypocritical rather than just appearing so.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Sunday the event, which was decorated by Tim Burton and featured Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter role from Burton's acclaimed "Alice in Wonderland," was held for local children from the Washington D.C.-area and for hundreds of military families.

"If we wanted this event to be a secret, we probably wouldn't have invited the press corps to cover it, release photos of it to Flickr, or post a video from it on the White House website," Schultz says. "Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read in books these days."

Oh, yeah, this is a biggie, alright.

You morons keep this childish bitch-whine exhibition you've mounted up and you'll really be crying come November.

Cue the Whitey Tape!

LOL!

Few have claimed it is a "biggie". I thought criticism, no matter how small the event criticized, was welcome? That is the impression that was conveyed by you and many others during the Bush years.

Change of heart?

Do try and make an effort to grow up, ExpressMyKnickerstoKatmandu.

So they hid the story so as not to look hypocritical?

You believe they "hid" the story because...?

Oh, riiight, it wasn't "hidden" after all.

What a clown.

Cue the Whitey Tape!

ROTFLMAO

Seriously, is your inability to actually address the topic of the thread due to laziness, stupidity, or both?

You may want to take your own advice. They surely didn't make it clear and apparent to all, as they have done with other events.

The book clearly states that the press pool was there during a trick-or-treat event preceding this party, but not necessarily present to make known the after event.

"White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywoodesque party would look to jobless Americans -- or their representatives in Congress, who would soon vote on health care -- that the event was not discussed publicly, and Burton and Depp's contributions went unacknowledged."

The event, so over the top that "Star Wars" creator George Lucas loaned out the original Chewbacca costume from the legendary film for an unknown participant to wear, was covered by a front event for the press in which the first couple handed out candy to trick or treaters. The president did not don a costume to that event, but first lady Michelle Obama wore a leopard-print sweater, cat ears and sparkly eye makeup.

And take note of all the mentions of Burton, Depp, Lucas' contribution, and pictures and video of the actual event revolving around these three individuals and their contributions...

You will notice that it isn't there.

I don't think anyone's complaining about that. I think they're complaining about the star-studded afterparty, which the press was most decidedly NOT invited to.
