The New Hampshire Republican debate Saturday night saw heated exchanges between Ron Paul and his rivals but relatively little criticism leveled against front runner Mitt Romney. Rick Santorum, who finished second in Iowa, was one of the few candidates to go aggressively after the former Massachusetts governor. "Business experience doesn't necessarily match up with being the commander-in-chief of this country," Santorum said. "The commander-in-chief of this country isn't a CEO."

Santorum and Huntsman are neck and neck at 17% and 16% respectively.

Huntsman has put a lot of time and effort into the state and as the clearly sanest candidate still out there Spud hopes he makes a good showing here.

Gingrich, who was briefly running in second a few scant weeks ago, is just below them at the moment but his numbers are on a downward slide that kinda looks like a graph of the NYSE in '29.

Ergo he's lost and he knows it but his massive hubris won't let him go out without firing his loose cannon at anyone in sight but most especially Rmoney.

Talk about damning someone with faint praise.

No one laid a glove on Mitt Romney. He spent most of the debate relaxing. The whole notion that Romney's competitors are going to come out, guns blazing, and take him down and/or out is the most hotly-anticipated-none event in American politics right now.

Republican candidates for president are generically opposed to gay marriage and abortion. The debate did not "pivot to jobs" until its last third, and it ended with a CNN-type goofball question, "What would you rather be doing tonight?"

Answers vary. Newt would be watching "college championship basketball game." Someone corrected him and said there was football on tonight. (There is, but there's also college basketball happening.) RomneySantorum said he'd be "watching the championship game." (There is no championship game on tonight.) Ron Paul said he'd rather be reading an economic textbook. I would rather be liveblogging the experience of watching Ron Paul read that textbook.

NBC News can ask questions all day long about economic issues without having to worry about getting repeats of answers from tonight.

No one watching the debate this morning

The debate this morning is much better than the previous debates I have watched.

I have enjoyed huntman, paul and santorum but also find newt holding his own and his candor as far as knowledge of the inner workings of congress refreshing.

So far Huntsman and Paul have captured my vote over obama but have altered a little with Santorum and newt.

After watching the debates its clear to me what the republicans are all about.
There version of freedom is, the freedom for them to control someone else personal lives. I never seem such a bunch of religious control freaks together at any one time...

Now they want means testing for social security,after people like my self paid into it over 40 years..

I guess they need to do this,so they can start more wars...

Obama .... 4 more years....

After watching this mornings debate late, I thought that the Rethug candidates have all polished their talking skills. I appreciated Dick Gregory raising the level of dialogue. I think the only candidate capable of actually restoring prosperity is Huntsman. This is because the rest are so stuck in the predominant bullshit they do not understand the problem, explained by Keynes.

The only candidates prepared to hold wealthy criminals accountable are Huntsman and Paul. No amount of Keynesian spending will help until corruption is curtailed by restoring legislation like Glass-Steagal and repealing Gramm-Leach-Bliley.

Crooks are running the country. There isn't the slightest hint that Obama intends to do anything about it. All the Rethugs except Huntsman and Paul support the criminals.
