Benjamin Franklin did it. Henry Ford did it. And American life is built on the faith that others can do it, too: rise from humble origins to economic heights. "Movin' on up," George Jefferson-style, is not only a sitcom song but a civil religion. But many researchers have reached a conclusion that turns conventional wisdom on its head: Americans enjoy less economic mobility than their peers in Canada and much of Western Europe.

You don't make that much.

Lee_the_Agent: Americans enjoy less economic mobility than their peers in Canada and much of Western Europe.

People I know who have moved to Western Europe (UK/France) tell me they have a much smaller percentage of their income after taxes/food/energy/housing than they did in America. Is that what you call 'economic mobility'?

#3 - I don't think you understand. Having the biggest bank account isn't the whole point. It's the ability to attain your dreams that they're trying to measure.

Steven Harper? You want to explain the relative improvements in Canada to the headlong slide in the states for the past couple years...

They already elected RPLite

If my choice is Rummy v Obummy... Canada looks better and better, I could even join the Quebecois successionist movement! Yeehaw!

The US has basically become a cross between Mexico and Canada and we're leaning more and more towards Mexico every day.

TEQUILA!

"Steven Harper?"

Stephen is riding the economic wave produced, managed, and legislated by the liberals in the 90s and early 2000s. If he had it his way, we'd be in the economical shithole your country is in.

and sorry to bust your bubble, the Qc seperation thing is going the way of the dodo, like the old bitter ideologues who promoted it.

Tell that to the interim coach of the Canadiens.
