And to get to the Govenor's desk for consideration--I believe there is a nomination process set up.

The Gov can't just go through CA State Attorneys rolodex trying to find qualified people to consider appointment.

I am told that even with my name now on the Governor's list under consideration there still is only about a 1 in 3 chance of recieving the appointment. Reputation and ability helps get a person onto the list, but in the end, politics plays the central role in actually recieving the appointment.

California Superior Court is its trial court, even though it sounds like a court of appeals. Its judges listen to losers like Vernon trying to avoid paying a claim that one of his heifer-hookers broke the bed of an unsuspecting john, like Tosser's cousin arguing that he should be found innocent because goat fucking is a custom in his fucked up homeland, and Glasshouse and his fourth ex-wife arguing over who gets the tupperware. It's an important job that someone needs to do, but its not a goal of most good attorneys.

You'd have a better point if you actually read what I've written over the last three years here. I have acknowledged over and over again the flaws in the system. I've also pointed out that it has as much to do with students and parents as it does with teachers and the system. I've even pointed out ways to adjust the system, and I've asserted (and sometimes showed) that I'm hardly the only teacher interested in reform. But none of these things suits the narrative you critics seem to need.

It's not about money, you're right. It is about respect, about administrators supporting teachers (in the face of angry parents, for instance), about parenting, about students being encouraged to give a shit, about society putting emphasis on education rather than on me me me attitudes. It's also about finding smart ways to hold school employees accountable, and following through. It's also about paying the right people the right amount, and looking deeply and seriously about how we deal with special education costs and safety issues in this country.

If you really cared, you'd listen to those actually doing the work, those who show an interest in hearing criticism and doing something about it, rather than insulting those who are trying to do the best with a shitty situation. If you ever reach that point, let me know. Until then, take your "indoctrination" bullshit and shove it up your ass. You are an angry, bitter man with no interest in serious engagement, only in accusations and labeling.

And I have never subscribed to the "feel good" bullshit either. My students know exactly where they stand at all times; some even like the lack of bullshit and knowing that. Shocking, I know, but I'm hardly alone in the teaching world. Almost no one I know who teaches at the high school buys into the self-esteem crap that says we can't be honest or blunt with kids (and parents). Again, I'm

And if any powerful politicians are interested, I'd be happy to go to work consulting and planning how to change things, how to work up standards of performance that will make sense pedagogically and in line with research-based practice. I'd be happy to work on a team to show some serious decision-makers how to put together a plan that will serve all stakeholders well, particularly the taxpayer.

But those decision-makers need to be serious, not bitter, angry men who aren't willing to look at what the system does well, what shit teachers have to face, and what the system can do well if given a chance. To quote Ambassador Huntsman, "all options need to be on the table." I actually agree with that (as I've said many, many times on this site), and if I didn't need to spend so much time building engaging, meaningful, effective lessons, I'd be politicking to do exactly the things suggested above. Or I'd start my own school and try to prove what modern education can and should be.

But again, you won't believe anything I say because you'd have to lay aside your assumptions about teachers and schools, which is something you're either not interested in doing or are incapable of doing.
