Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

After a dismal showing in the Iowa caucuses, Michele Bachmann canceled her campaign trip to South Carolina on Wednesday and announced at a press conference that she's suspending her presidential campaign. "I will continue to fight to defeat the president's agenda," Bachmann said. "This might be the last election to turn the nation around before we go down the road to socialism."

Foregone conclusion, really.

We will make " Bachmann" a no term president!

And we're all self-employed
Its the work that we avoid
We love to work at nothing all day...

..but who will she endorse? Santorum is certainly the most religiously conservative. He may also draw Perry supporters when Perry drops out (another foregone conclusion).

Good question, Mustang.

We've got Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul. (I've intentionally left Huntsman off, as his balloon never got off the ground.)

We'll see if those who fancy themselves insurgents really are insurgents.

What's funny? He compromises and/or gives in to the GOP at every turn, he doesn't hesitate to project military power abroad, he uses the Patriot (sic) Act, kept Guantanamo open, renewed the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, etc. etc. etc. Just like he said he would do when running, he is governing as a moderate centrist. Just because you can't stand him doesn't mean he is something he is not.

You think Santorum call peel off some of the fantasy butt-pirate vote?

Is Santorum really campaigning on making contraceptives illegal even for married couples?

Is he really?

That's what passes for a good looking woman in your part of the world? No wonder you pay so much attention to the Packers.

It will be interesting to see the American people's choices narrowed down to big government types such as Obama, Romney, Newt and Santorum or small government types such as Ron Paul.

for effect.

At least I don't piss on my shoes....

>He compromises and/or gives in to the GOP at every turn
Name one compromise

>he doesn't hesitate to project military power abroad
Like by pulling out of Iraq?

>he uses the Patriot (sic) Act
So

>kept Guantanamo open
A campaign promise unfulfilled made by a naive candidate

>renewed the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy
You mean Obeezy's Wall St. pals or the trial lawyers?

Just because Paddy O'Bamma has fucked the libtards doesn't mean he's a moderate or governing as a centrist. He'd actually have to do some governing to start with.

"small government types such as Ron Paul."

Paul's finished. If he can't win a caucus he's not going to win a primary.

Michelle Bachmann is a good looking woman? Wow. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so you go with that. (I don't think Palin is hot either.) Washington, DC: Hollywood for ugly people.

Forget it, Montecore. You'll never convince those who think Obama is some sort of radical leftie. Just shows me they don't really understand what "radical" and "left" mean.

So who will be next to quit? Newt I hope. I just hate that guy. I will especially love to hear Bill Clinton interviewed and asked about Newt's FAILED run for teh presidency. I hope Newt watches Bill laugh at him.

LOL. A Ployester Pantsuit Man!

Most of the tea party candidates will fail because they are now just seen as far right leaning republicans in verbal disguise. None of the tea party idiots separated themselves from the republicans when it came time for voting so they are seen as republicans.

They lost a huge opportunity because they failed to recognize the people wanted conservative but separation from the republican party and the tea party representatives didn't perform.

34--Is that a reference to Hillary Clinton? Nope, don't find her attractive either. You left off the quip, the most important part of my post.

I think Michelle Bachmann has looked good at some points, but I would not, generally speaking, call her an attractive woman. Beauty, eye, beholder.

Well you might be on to something there.

But not sure about Newt stopping after FL. Depends on money.

"The one where the black progressive turned out to be Bush with a different skin tone?"

When did Obama suggest privatizing Social Security? That was Bush's most important ideological goal and Obama doesn't share it. To pretend Obama is a continutation of Bush is nonsense, too many progressive bills like HCR, Dodd/Frank, Lilly Ledbetter to even pretend such nonsense. He had to finish Bush's stupid war, that gives the ammunition for such accusations but he had little choice in the matter.....Pottery Barn Rule and all.

So now Santorum is the second-craziest in the race, behind only Perry. We humorists will miss Michelle as we miss Herman. We'll have an extreme right winger against a mild right winger in fall. A bird with two right wings cannot fly. herm

All the comments are cute, but this is pretty game changing. If Perry and Bachmann go, that's a lot of votes that have to go somewhere and not likely to Romney.

Nailed it! When it comes down to the final and Obama and Romney are the only big government choices and Paul is the only small government choice what is it going to be? Of course I like Paul however a lot of others who don't like Romneys big government positions are going to have to decide. Should be interesting as I believe Romney and Paul will be the last ones standing and only Paul favors smaller government?

Does that platitude help you sleep better at night or something? Fact is Obama didn't do damned near anything different than Bush did or McCain would have, his history made this clear, and yet you voted for him anyway. But then I don't think you're progressive at all, you're a Democrat. They could run a yellow dog and you'd vote for it so long as there was a D after the name; without even the qualifier that the person who invented the term had.

"I said then what I now repeat, namely, that when the Democratic party of Kentucky, in convention assembled, sees fit in its wisdom to nominate a yaller dog for the governorship of this great state, I will support him â€" but lower than that ye shall not drag me!"

Yes, yes he is.

Spud to Santorum:

Good luck running on the "Blowjobs are bad, m'kay?" platform.

Be Well.

"Is Santorum really campaigning on making contraceptives illegal even for married couples?
Is he really?"

That's what he says.

He thinks birth control will lower the population and destroy the Social Security Trust Fund.

Which I think is a very strange position for a Republican ~ since we all know that getting rid of Social Security is on their Top 10 list of things to do.

Santorum may look like a "shiny face Christian" on the surface but I don't think you'd want to scratch too deep and see what's underneath ~ that is if you like to sleep well at night.

Bachmann and Cain have "suspended", not "quit", thus "keeps" the majority of donations.

Bachmann and Cain have "suspended", not "quit", thus "keeps" the majority of donations.

Good point.

The campaign of Herman "the GOP's Black Friend" Cain was never anything more than an extended book tour and by "Suspending" his campaign he gets to keep the PAC money rolling in possibly to buy bulk orders of his book. A time honored technique developed by Gingrich in the 80's and perfected Sarah "Grifter-grrl" Palin in the 2008 cycle and beyond.

Bachmann is a dyed-in-the-wool True Believer however and she actually thought she stood a real chance the poor little idiot.

There's something about her position that she's never properly appreciated.

Spud to Bachmann:

Here's a clue, lady. When religious fundie wingnuts get together to chose a leader they will ALWAYS chose a guy over a chick because of the patriarchal nature of fundamentalist religious thought. Ergo vagina clown car family and the vast majority of Iowa fundies voted for Santorum over Bachmann despite the fact that they both herp the same religious derp. Basically, if you are a woman and you're trying to achieve a leadership position within that hierarchy you may as well be a black Jewish homosexual applying to be leader of the KKK.

A better example might be the classic "One Leg Too Few" sketch by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore but that's a bit obscure.

Sorry, Bachmann. Only tripods need apply.

Be Well.

...and this distinguishes them from the Democratic Party how?

...and this distinguishes them from the Democratic Party how?

When Obama won the nomination in 2008 it was an upset because Hillary had long been perceived to be the obvious candidate.

The GOP have never had a competitive female candiate for POTUS.

Democrats had a woman nominee for Veep in Geraldine Ferarro long before Ms Palin came along.

Oh yeah and...

Out of 435 members of the House, just 17 are Republican women. Of 99 sitting senators, just four are Republican women.

Of course, there are fewer Republicans than Democrats of either gender in the two houses. But even on a percentage basis, Republicans suffer a gender gap. Twenty-two percent of House Democrats are women, but only 9.5 percent of House Republicans are. In the Senate, nearly 23 percent of the Democrats are women, but only 10 percent of the Republicans are.

Mr. Calculator thinks that Santorium is worried that his wife will come home pregnant?

vern, you're a weird one.

When Obama won the nomination in 2008 it was an upset because Hillary had long been perceived to be the obvious candidate.

She was the obvious candidate b/c she was the most qualified. The Dem establishment went as far as disenfranchising primary voters in two states to keep her from getting the nomination. Mitch McConnell's admission that defeating Obama is more important to him than solving the country's problems is appalling, but no worse than what the Dem party already did by saddling us with Obama when the country needed a competent executive.

Both sides *are* bad. -- #83 | Posted by dethspud

Yes, and religion has nothing to do with it.

It would have been interesting to have Marcus as First Lady.

Just as an aside, did you happen to catch Bachmann's concession speech?

Marcus Bachmann is "the best campaigner" in the family, wife Michele said in a speech thanking supporters after the Iowa caucuses, but he wasn't exactly campaigning while the rest of the team was out stirring up support on Main Street in Des Moines. No, "he was out buying doggie sunglasses for our dog, Boomer,"

Surely by now the woman has to realize that most of the rest of the civilized world is aware that she's married a gay guy and that that optics problem is one of the many reasons she will never be POTUS but for the love of Mike WTF did she think she doing proffering up that tidbit?

That lady is loonie tunes w/ very limited political instincts.

Be Well.

Yes, and religion has nothing to do with it.

[notsureifserious.jpg]

Yer kidding, right?

The things that make the GOP unsupportable are in the main things associated with their theocratic tendencies.

Anti-woman laws redefining rape and defunding health services.

Anti-gay rhetoric ramping up the homophobia and violence.

Anti-abortion rhetoric and laws that imperil lives.

Anti-science laws like bans on stem cell research and denial of fundamental and widely accepted scientific principles.

Over 90% of the political positions that make the GOP unfit to lead stem directly from their selling their souls to the fundies back in Reagan's day.

That you can't see this clearly or even at all seem remarkable to Spud.

False equivalence is false and pretty farking stupid to boot.

Be Well.

No argument there. My point was that secularism hasn't saved the Dems from sexism.

Your antiquated notions of what drives women voters are a prime example. If the administration doesn't figure out by November that waving the abortion rights flag isn't going to bring women back to the party, Obama's gone.

In 2008, exit polling showed President Obama won 56 percent of the female vote and 49 percent of the male vote. With the economic downturn, Grove said, Obama's popularity with women has eroded. Forty-five percent of women approved of Obama's job performance in a national Gallup poll taken Nov. 28-Dec. 4, down from 51 percent during the same period in 2009, the end of his first year in office. www.pittsburghlive.com
Dems CANNOT win the presidency without winning a sizable majority among women, since they rarely win even a bare majority among men. www.cawp.rutgers.edu

Your antiquated notions of what drives women voters are a prime example. If the administration doesn't figure out by November that waving the abortion rights flag isn't going to bring women back to the party, Obama's gone.

There are good historical reasons why the Dems win the lady vote more often than not.

Those reasons have not abated in the last few years, indeed they have grown larger.

Basically Obama got voted in with the youth vote and the lady vote in 2008.

Dems got smoked in 2010 when the youth and lady vote enthusiasm gap allowed a revitalized and angry group of old white people to vote in the Teatards.

So yeah, he needs both this time around as well.

And he will likely get them.

Hopefully people have figured out what a huge fuck up voting the teatards into power was.

But with the way the corporate MSM deals in false dichotomies and false equivalences and lies of omission and with corporations pouring huge money into anonymous superpacs anything is possible.

One things for sure the American middle class will not survive even 4 years of nonsense like the Ryan budget proposal.

We shall see.

Be Well.

There are good historical reasons why the Dems win the lady vote more often than not.

Breaks down to party approach. The RNC tends to be more business based that tends to take a "bottom line view of things" and that attracts men.

The DNC tends to be more emotional based and that tends to attract female voters.

This is not sexist for the record. Men are more logic thought based and females are more emotional thought based. That tends to be why mothers are more nurturing and fathers more distant.

Shame shame shame..Who will pray over your gay childred now and turn the straight.. Shame on you republicans shame shame, she was the only one with a plan..
