Robert Reich: You can forget the caucuses and early primaries. Mitt Romney will be the nominee. Republicans may be stupid but the GOP isn't about to commit suicide. The other candidates are all weighed down by enough baggage to keep a 747 on the tarmac indefinitely. For his running mate, Romney will choose Marco Rubio, the junior senator from Florida. So it will be Obama-Clinton versus Romney-Rubio. And what's my prediction for Election Day? Obama-Clinton hands down.

Yes, please!

If Romney were on a path to victory you would see ideas coalesce around their popularity, clarity and FACTS. During that process his popularity would build, slowly but surely. Instead he's been stuck in the mid-twenties give or take, for two fucking years. Its all bullshit and its bad for you. Obama began this way, but has since abandoned this path also. This gives the incumbant a small but decisive advantage, especially since personality play a biggger part than policy in this country.

Hands down! Four more years! Gobama!

Romney - Rubio...A democratic wet dream.

Ron Paul will get the nomination and he will get as much as 50% of both the hispanic and black vote. He will get 80% of the inependants and you will see a landslide win.

Olive Oyl, I certainly hope you're correct about Ron Paul getting the Republic nomination. His KKK papers will sink him with ~98% of black voter and Hispanics won't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

Reagan58,

You are clueless. Minorities are also tired of empty promises from corporate shills. They can see through the mudslinging and rhetoric... and they can read and form their own opinions. You are wrong. Trying to throw dirt on Paul with stories with serious age on them is ridiculous. Next thing you know, he won't go into a gay bathroom ala 1988! If all he did was acknowledge some letter in 1996... that's all you have? Seriously, he wasn't driving Mary Jo Kopechne home or lighting a cross on fire.

RON PAUL 2012

Uncle Ron at 30% per Drudge... thank you very much!

Romney - Rubio...A democratic wet dream.

A democratic or Democrat, wet dream. Not sure.

If Democrat, how so? Please explain your analysis.

Norty, don't you dare!

#1 Be careful what you wish for!

He is supposed to be an economist, isn't he? How accurate have his economic policies or predictions been? Is he also good at political predictions? I hope he is as wrong about this prediction as he has with other predictions.

Obama is not going to throw over Biden--unless he is unable to serve.

Never happen to put Hillary in.

Now Romney/Rubio that looks pretty darn good to me.

Look they can save on monagrams

MR MR--have to be Mitt versus Willard--

Ha ha

You better stick to preaching Socialism from the classroom!

"How accurate have his economic policies or predictions been?"

Pretty good actually....much better than quite a few I could name....

TEXT OF STORY

TESS VIGELAND: We just heard an earful about Robert Reich's last commentary. Let's see what you say about his next one. We've been hearing for about two years that the so-called housing bubble would pop any minute. It hasn't. But there are signs the air is starting to seep out of the bubble. The latest government reports show new home construction recovered a bit in May but is still way behind last year. And a record number of homes are sitting on the market. Reich is joining the ranks of those who say the giddy fun is over."

Romney/Rice in 2012.

Romney Rubio as VP has been floated as an idea for a while now.

Idea here being that Mittens, like McCain before him, needs something on the ticket to appeal to the whackjob fundies who have taken over the party, They did so under the guise of being small government libertarian types but they've subsequently shown by their actions that they are still the same retarded social conservatives ie. radical regressionists and economic supply siders they've always been. The fact remains that they are the inmates who've taken over the GOP nuthouse and their batshiat concerns need to be addressed or least paid insincere lip service to.

Can't be Paul as VP, btw, according to the party ideologues because Paul is anti-drug war and anti-war war and that makes the defense contractors and alphabet soup anti-drug task forces very nervous.

So it's got to be someone the teatards can relate to.

In 2008 they though Sarah Palin was gonna do that for them.

They were horribly wrong about that, of course, but RW revisionism has apparently ret-conned that reality and nowadays the takeaway from 2008 is that if the tickets were reversed Sarah mighta won.

So here we are in 2012 and it looks like the GOP are gonna try the same tactic again by pairing Romney with Rubio.

It'll help 'em not only with the teatards but also with Florida (a crucial swing state) among the Cuban-American community and especially among Latinos in the other states.

Trouble with Rubio is the more you look at him the less you like him but the GOP, if nothing else, are masters of smoke and mirrors and branding politicians and whipping up support by ringing Pavlovs bell every 5 minutes on FOX.

It won't backfire as spectacularly as Sista Sarah's Roller Coaster ride into semi-obscurity but it aint gonna be enuff to bring out the rubes in the numbers they are gonna need.

Meh, they still might pick Santorum or Bachmann cos of their cred with the fundies but those two will scare off moderates faster and they have also both sed bad stuff about Mitt in the debates which could be used against the campaign in ads for the general.

So there's that.

Be Well.

Romney and Rubio will have to get together and decide if they are going to be anti-immigrant or pro-immigration reform. I don't see how a ticket can have it both ways and retain credibility.

Rubio ain't ready. He has been a decent Senator so far...not great, but not pure evil either. He may be ready in 2016, but he must finish at least a full term in the Senate IMHO first.

I don't see how a ticket can have it both ways

It is Romney

and retain credibility.

Oh, nevermind then.

I doubt this will endear him to Floridians as much as some folks think.
Rubio is an opportunistic punk, I just can't see him being elected VP.

Yeah, I remember how you said he didn't stand a chance against Crist.

Crist never stood a chance. He was a direct threat to the two party joke and, had he won, you would have seen many more moderates from both parties leave. He had to be destroyed. Voting for Crist is my second most proud voting moment (first being Clinton in 92).

"Yeah, I remember how you said he didn't stand a chance against Crist."

I don't remember if I did or not, doesn't change what he is though. He will pretty much throw anyone under the bus to further his own ambition. I think it will be hard to sell Florida seniors on his views about SS and Medicare, he should be a one term senator because he absolutely does not represent the interests of Florida, he represents the interests of Marco Rubio.

Reich? A Democrat is being taken seriously as an analyst of the Republican race? He's merely 'predicting' what he wants to see.

Rice/Powell ticket, with a SOS promise to Rubio. That way, the Republicans can't be accused of being either racist or sexist. Right?

ROMNEY + rubio = "CALL THE MOVERS MICHELLE"....

but he must finish at least a full term in the Senate IMHO first.

I agree with you on principle, but Obama hadn't even finished his first term and he got elected to the highest office courtesy of an utterly inept McCain campaign and a lapdog media that served as Obama's PR team.

That actually proves my case. Had Obama waited until 2016 I bet he would have been one of the great ones.

Romney/Cartman 2012! That'd fix them Meheecans!
