ACLU: President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law today. The statute contains a sweeping worldwide indefinite detention provision. While President Obama issued a signing statement saying he had "serious reservations" about the provisions, the statement only applies to how his administration would use the authorities granted by the NDAA, and would not affect how the law is interpreted by subsequent administrations. The White House had threatened to veto an earlier version of the NDAA, but reversed course shortly before Congress voted on the final bill.

HOPE AND CHANGE MY ASS!

BAN THE PATRIOT ACT.

REPEAL THE NDAA.

Our leaders suck monkey balls and need to be replaced with electorates that care about Americans first then the Almighty dollar.

If Obama isn't "the antichrist" he sure aspires to that label:

Revelation|6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

Obama issued a signing statement saying he had "serious reservations"

Typical Obama: Liberal rhetoric, Republican governance.

Bipartisan governance, null. Patriot act, gitmo, this- all overwhelming Repub AND Dem support.

Adammmaaazzzzing isn't it? All that political class support while the people hate it and don't want it. It's not representative govt - it represents that our government has been taken over and is being used to extort us (at best), maybe to enslave or kill us too.

How is that hope and change feel now?

For those of you who voted for him it must feel like a hot poker up the ass.

#6 - I wouldn't know.

#6 it does.

Yet these fools will vote or obama again (while holding their noses).

#9 NFW would I vote for obama - even if its a mysoginist GOP opponent. I'm leaning toward Ron Paul and Gary Johnson.

As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for".
The MSM and the establishment have decreed that there are only two political parties and said establishment will provide you with the only two candidates you will have the option of electing. Should you choose to step out of line and vote for a candidate not certified by the MSM and the establishment, your insubordination will be excoriated and your vote will be touted as wasted.

In essence, the machine is in complete control and there is nothing we as Americans can do about it. Stop complaining. You get what you pay for.

The lesson still not learned. If you vote for Democrat or Republican, you're voting to get screwed.

I would like to announce the first annual Drudge Retort reunion to be held at a FEMA reeducation camp near you.

glasshouse will be there bitching about Obama and Democrats. BruceBanner and nullifidian will be there to point out why this is the fault of republicans and the teaparty. Ray and AuntieSocial will be telling us that Ron Paul had the answer. We can all hash this out in between electro shock treatments and indoctrination speeches. Look at the votes on this, We just got a bipartisan screwing.

Anyone surprised by this should have done maybe 5 seconds vetting his history before orgasming in your pants and screaming FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, YES WE CAN!!!!

"ACLU Blasts Obama for Signing NDAA"

Please. Like it matters. They're still going to campaign for his re-election. Enthusiastically. I've been receiving weekly emails from them for years complaining about the President and I send them a LMAO response every time.

That bunch of festered assholes needs to be tried on RICO charges and deported, they are so bad for this country. Their name is a misnomer, they have worked to tear down what has made this country great

The White House had threatened to veto an earlier version of the NDAA, but reversed course shortly before Congress voted on the final bill.

It appears the WH and Obama played the Republicans big time. He knew the Repubs would vote for it if they thought Obama would veto it. They fell for it. Obama laughed all the way to the signing.

Obama issued a signing statement saying he had "serious reservations" about the provisions...

At least he didn't rub it in their face.

Who will be first to "disappear?"

ACLU rocks.

NDAA sucks.

The road to hell is all downhill, paved with good intentions and always a very slippery slope.

Be Well.

"They're still going to campaign for his re-election."

Last I heard, the ACLU doesn't make political endorsements, and certainly doesn't campaign on behalf of particular candidates.

Despite both parties turning this country into a Gestapo police state, as sure as election day falls on November 6, Libs and Cons will hold their noses and vote for their man be he Democrat or Republican. And they know it too.

You're deluded by the belief government can be reformed. Real reform won't come until after it collapses; it's coming. The NDAA is a sign of desperation. They've seen the riots in other countries and they're preparing. They've already militarized the police.

I contribute by refusing to support these psychos. If you have to vote, at least don't make the mistake of voting for either of the two major parties.

Anything that hastens the 2nd American Revolution can't be all bad

Damn liberals always blasting.... Liberals? Wow.
I hope no ones head explodes over this political oxymoron.

Spin baby, spin.

Yeah if Paul doesn't win, I'm scared I'll say screw it and just work to hasten our fall into tyranny. You reach a point when you have to demolish the house rather than restore it.

Careful. They are listening/watching.

Quick say something patriotic!

"I love paying taxes!"

Please forget the Party hacks on either the left or right. It is rigged casino and there is no left or right but only a pro global corporate, not a pro American agenda. Both Parties have only a pro corporate agenda that benefits them, not America. Obama is a golden tongued Wall St loser that I mistakenly voted for because there were no other options.

This guy says it best.

www.youtube.com

I watched c-span Contenders last night--Ross Perot was the topic.

I liked that guy--I was also in the Reform Party for several years.

It would be great to throw the bums out for someone like Perot ..

He had 39% when he pulled a Fubar and dropped out of the race.

------------------------

If the ACLU wants to blast Obama--get in effin line...

All law have bad part to them. But law makers weight the good with the bad. Its just how its done, nothing is prefect.

.... Nothing Stopping the U.S.Public but RESOLVE!

**** Anytime the American people want to "March" on Washington and take back their Government and their Country from these Greedy,Evil "CorpoRat Nazis"....they can!!!

It appears the WH and Obama played the Republicans big time. He knew the Repubs would vote for it if they thought Obama would veto it. They fell for it. Obama laughed all the way to the signing.

You actually think republicans would vote against a defense spending bill? Get real.

Obama threatened a veto so he could be on record opposing the bill. The same reason for his signing statement. He is all talk, because many people are dumb enough to believe what he says and ignore what he does.

"ACLU Blasts Obama for Signing NDAA"

As well they should.

As much as I support President Obama, allowing this law to go into effect is, in my opinion, 100% wrong. It is dangerous and it is wrong. Today we have reasonably intelligent people running the executive branch of government, but after the elections in 2012, it is possible, just possible, that the Republicans could be in the hot seat and then then liberties of all Americans will be endangered. We already have enough idiots with too many powers to detain people (need I cite the cowboy sheriff in Arizona?). Repeal this law NOW.

Libs have been too dumb to realize they were playing with fire when they thought government could be turned into a socially benevolent institution. The NDAA makes it official. Liberals just got third degree burns. Watch them dutifully, like programmed idiots, vote to reelect Obama.

The right is equally complicit in this war on the American public. By invading a defenseless Iraq, Bush got away with what Hitler couldn't get away with. And still they defended him. They too, like programmed idiots, will vote for any of the psychopaths on the Republican Party ticket.

Barring a miracle that both parties get kicked out of office, November 6, 2012 marks the day when America crosses the gates into hell.

You have it all wrong, Republicans want to limit government and it's control over you. Democrats want bigger government and more control.

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it. - article 1 section 9 clause 2 united states constitution.

"belligerent" is no where to be found.

This president and this congress have declared war on the Americna people. To know who the traitors are one need only to view list of individual representatives who voted for this.

Ron Paul 2012!

If you are not angry, you are not paying attention!

"Republicans want to limit government and it's control over you."

Bullshit talking points.

The Republicans have had plenty of opportunities over the past thirty years to put into place a limited government with little-to-no control over you.

But, just like the so-called "Human Life Amendment" to the US Constitution, the GOP has had it a part of their platform and have NEVER passed it in the House or Senate when they were in complete control of both over the past thirty years.

"...limit government and it's control over you."

Bullshit talking points.

I agree with Hans. Both parties want larger government. That doesn't mean certain individuals don't want less govt but the 2 parties have a huge vested interest in larger govt.

The problem is us as citizens. Pols are responding to the complaints we shout. We are always asking for more govt as a solution to our problems.

We get it from both parties

Good luck with that when they come to take you away

And thanks largely to Bush, among others, when the ACLU argues your case on your Gitmo-detained behalf, the government gets to claim state secrets so that a ruling will never be issued.

Many people today are already benefiting from the affordable healthcare act.. Their kids are on their insurance still till age 26. Parents can buy low basic cost insurance for their kids even if the parents don't have coverage yet. Going to be fun to watch if the republicans get there way and take the insurance away from these people.

This is a thread about the NDAA, #44. Take your talking point bs and get lost.

At that point it will be obvious to all that we live in a lawless land and those who have wrongly presumed that they are above the law will be swiftly dealt with as it is my obligation and my oath.

Meet the "New" Boss, same as the old boss...

Guess what, you were fooled again. And again. And again.

Perhaps the ACLU can represent Iran as well... they don't appear to like the new NDAA either.

"Iran already faces four sets of UN sanctions and additional unilateral Western sanctions imposed over its refusal to heed repeated ultimatums to suspend its uranium enrichment programme.

Ther announcement of the fuel rod test came a day after US President Barack Obama signed into law tough new sanctions targeting Iran’s central bank and financial sector."

Too bad the government always has to clump so many things together into one "take it or leave it" package.

My God, I donated a few hundred dollars to this guy and voted for him. WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?!?!?! oh, yeah.... hope & change...
I feel like I should be publically horse-whipped for my stupidity!!

Does this mean that ACLU attorneys will be told before they get lead off to rendition to an undesclosed third nation to be enhanced questioned, they gave material support to the enemy by speaking out against the NDAA 2011?

Whoops! Time to go, goodbye!

See you real soon, oh, I'm sorry, no I won't!

GOOD TO SEE SOME OF YOU LIBS starting to wake up to the emerging tyranny.

It's coming from both sides - the neo-Marxists (like Obama), AND the establishment Republicans.

Watch the political machine forward Romney while we run around sniping at each other - thinking there's really a dif.

Big Gov, is Big Gov - and it's Big Gov that's eroding freedoms, mindless leftists and rightists alike.

Don't vote party - vote smaller government. And KEEP voting smaller government.

Let Freedom Ring!

HANS == "The Republicans have had plenty of opportunities over the past thirty years to put into place a limited government with little-to-no control over you."

Sort of makes the bile rise in my throat to say it, but Hans is exactly correct.

Hans - corrent me if I'm wrong, but this valid indictment of the Republican failure to limit goverment.......does that mean YOU are in favor of limited Government? Or, do you just smell blood in the water?

(you know if you are finally coming around to the need to reign in out-of-control Government -- that put us on the same side. Can you handle that?)

Where's the outrage here? Absolutely nothing...this is like 100 times worse than the Patriot Act, and yet the usual posters I see on this site have been uncharacteristically mum about this.

Thank you Obama!

Just wait until they completely blur the line between drug war and war on terror - any drug possession warrants detention in a terrorist context, which means indefinitely.

The NDAA fits perfectly into the industrial criminal justice complex, where private prisons are paid based on the number of prisoners and the length of detention. Indefinite detention means indefinite profits. Sounds perfect for the Obama/Wall Street Administration.

Where are the Republican candidates decrying such a move? Could it be they are so heavily interested in retaining such a power for themselves? I believe so. Same reason Obama perpetuated the Patriot Act - it may be against his moral values, but sure is hell convenient to use as a sitting President.

Ron Paul is a god damn hypocrite if he stays quiet about this.

"Same reason Obama perpetuated the Patriot Act - it may be against his moral values,

I love reading stuff like that. no matter what Obama does that seemingly outraged the left when Bush did it....they still think they know what is in his heart and it's alllllllllllll good.

the DR left.....trailer trash wenches being slapped around the double-wide and yet still claiming, "it's not his fault....he's really a good person!!"

LOL

oh, come on...you KNOW he is a wonderful and good person who cares deeply about you.

are you gonna now try and assert you somehow doubt what his moral beliefs are? seriously?

I'm gonna be watching you...........

I'm gonna be watching you...........
#58 | POSTED BY EBERLY

As you normally are - apparently :) And I always doubted Bush's moral beliefs, so why wouldn't I doubt Obama's? I don't agree with a lot of Obama's decisions, but I still maintain he was a better choice than McCain/Palin and a large assortment of the current Republican candidates (save Gary Johnson and Mitt Romney). The Republicans actually have a better chance for my vote in November than any previous time that I've been of age. McCain/Palin and Bush x2 never stood a chance. Romney and Johnson have some serious contentions against Obama, IMHO.

I believe that you will find my future posts consistant with the above, as I know you'll "be watching [me]"... lol

Fair enough, Rsty. I think it is insane to suggest one knows a political candidate's moral beliefs unless they have personally known them for some time.

#60 | POSTED BY EBERLY

We are only afforded speculation for such measures. Speculation is rampant here on the DR, is it not?

Doesn't matter the left loves Obama irregardless. Just imagine the uproar if a republican had signed it? Especially from Obama if say John McCain had!!!!

Kind of like the way cindy sheehan is acting today. Did you see her bullhorning her dissent to an occupy crowd? No talk whatsoever about the war, but she did proudly proclaim she had paid no taxes since she lost her son.

sounds like she's running for position with BHO, like for treasury Scrt!

We are now officialy a banana republic. The military can throw any one of us in the slammer till hell freezes over without any charges. What a fucking deal.

My local congressman has a conference call tonight and I'm going to work him over on this. I'm shocked about the number of people calling themselves conservatives who backed this turkey.

"I'm shocked about the number of people calling themselves conservatives who backed this turkey."

Unless you're Louis Renault then don't be "shocked."

It is part and parcel of "you're either with us or against us."

Good rule is "never build anything you don't want used against you by the other guys."

Is the water getting a bit warm froggies ?

So now the ACLU is right on target?

If we had stood firm with the ACLU before this kind of thing would not have been possible. This is what incremental erosion of our rights makes possible. So much for habeas corpus. Soon it will be ok to do anything to Americans justified by the Forever War...like quartering of soldiers our homes.

Color me not impressed Obama. I see no reason why he had to sign this bill. It would have passed over his veto anyway.

I think it is insane to suggest one knows a political candidate's moral beliefs unless they have personally known them for some time.

#60 | Posted by eberly

Apparently being insane never stopped some people who are still ranting about Rev Wright & Bill Ayers influence this Presidents moral beliefs.

I just spoke to my Congressman and he tells me that several early versions did in fact allow indefinite detention but that the final bill doesn't. I have my doubts

The bill is so "f"ing big I can cut and past it but if your interested the offending secion is:

SEC. 1022. MILITARY CUSTODY FOR FOREIGN AL-QAEDA TERRORISTS

www.govtrack.us

The ACLU most recient article

He signed it. We'll fight it

President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law. It contains a sweeping worldwide indefinite detention provision.

The dangerous new law can be used by this and future presidents to militarily detain people captured far from any battlefield. He signed it. Now, we have to fight it wherever we can and for as long as it takes.

secure.aclu.org

He signed it.

As did the 100's of GOPhers you would still bend over for
given half a chance.

Unlike you I don't give up. I'll get to the bottom of this because I don't want to spend my twilight years in a FEMA camp with the likes of you.

Don't forget the black helicopters buzzing over you all the time in the FEMA camp.

All that noise will just increase your paranoia until you finally start hearing The Gipper in your head telling you that, "the Wall Must Come Down!" and you constantly Trickle Down on yourself and they start calling you, "Stinky".
