Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, December 27, 2011

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) is announcing today that he's retiring after two terms, dealing a blow to Democratic efforts to hold their majority next November. The 70-year-old senator had already been targeted by hundreds of thousands of dollars in TV ads from GOP-affiliated groups. Nelson, one of the most moderate Senate Democrats in his voting record, supported the Bush tax cuts in 2001, yet also backed President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus package in 2009 and health reform.

NRSC wishes Ben Nelson a happy 2nd anniversary of the Cornhusker Kickback

We have a cultural tendency to commemorate important anniversaries, and the NRSC has a new video out today “honoring” Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE). The 60-second spot notes the two-year anniversary of the Cornhusker Kickback, an amendment to the proposed ObamaCare bill that meant an extra $100 million for Nebraska â€" a change that inexplicably addressed Nelson’s pro-life concerns over the funding of abortions in the bill. Nelson’s change of position allowed the Democrats to push ObamaCare through Congress and eventually onto the docket of the Supreme Court in this term:

Nebraska isn't California, Dorothy

God I hate that- "retiring." A facade of dignity hiding the gross failure of the democratic process- namely that politicians can screw over their voters and then leave with a comfortable pension.

If we really wanted representational democracy, it would be "FIRED" and no retirement benefits. That way, maybe our dear leaders would be less willing to vote for bills they know we don't want and won't forget about.

Good. Yet another endorsee of ZeroCare has decided to live in an economy of his creation, for a change.

Damn! I thought this said "Bill Nelson" and I was happy he felt the shame of voting for NDAA and was going to save me the trouble of voting against him.

Ben Nelson is the best Democrat in the Republican Party. Good riddance.

Ben Nelson retiring from Senate

Good. It does double damage for a democrat to support republican policies. First in weakening the democratic brand and second in tying the party to the failure of such policies.

Biggest flaw with Obama.

"Biggest flaw with Obama."

Nah, his biggest flaw is that he doesn't have a magic wand like some of his former supporters thought he had. He also compromises and sometimes can't deliver 100% of what they want but he delivers what he can.

Agreed.

Stopped reading Danni's "response" after Magic Wand. Talking points are bullshit responses.

state legislatures ought to be electing senators to protect the states' interests. that's the real story...

There is something to be said for that as the people already have the House, but given the people also elect the state legislatures, it kind of makes sense to just cut to the chase and have them elect Senators too.

"Talking points are bullshit responses."

Not if they are completely true. Then they are just an easy way to express a thought.

Thankfully we passed an amendment so that is not the way we select Senators. We give Legislators plenty of power, they don't need to be deciding who sits in the US Senate with a virtual veto power over any law or appointment. Florida's Republican majority Legislature would send only extreme right wing lunatics to Washington.

Sometimes, when I'm sad or bored, I just need to read a Danni post and then I smile with an odd fascination. It's kind of like staring at your hand when you are on acid.

If we really wanted representational democracy

We dont. We have a Representive Republic. There is a difference. Please get "democracy" out of your mouth when talking about the United States. We are only a democracy at the local level. State and below..Liberals like dictatorships where they have to look on high for their help..

That worked well in the 1850s and 60s, didn't it?

Votes for the Party that supported more dictatorships than democracies.

Lives off taxpayer's money.

Liberals like dictatorships where they have to look on high for their help..

Generalize much? The problem with fucktards like Boaz is that they like having a black and white view of the world where their opinions are right and anything that differs from said opinion is on the side of the enemy. The problem with your world view is there are as many or more people that disagree with your opinion.

Most dictatorships start with the military in a coup and are reinforced with right wing mindsets so fuck you and your opinion.

I don't like how Obama organized Occupier Crackdowns and is so hard on marijuana-something he completely lied about before being elected.

Bye Ben.

This is the way they all should do it, two and gone.

Our Republic would be better off for it.

"Ditto" works too and saves even more time.

By posting a simple "ditto", danni-ditto?, most of us can easily imagine what you would have wrote, had you written more.

Just like rats jumping off a sinking ship. What happened Ben? Kick-back-blow-back?

To the fine citizens of Nebraska...and just like Pelosi said...ELECTIONS MATTER FOLKS! Sadly enough though, the good people of Nebraska will likely throw another lefty into the Senate. And the gridlock will continue and then the Odummer/Occupier crowd will be that much more motivated to blame the future Republican White House and House of Reps for all the "do nothingness" of Washington. Ain't Representative Republics awesome?!?!?!?Americas 2008 brain fart lives on. NOBAMA 2012.

Biggest flaw with Obama.

"Obama has made this bridging of partisan divisions the touchstone of his campaign. "My goal is to get us out of this polarizing debate, where we're always trying to score cheap political points, and actually get things done," he has said."

Why the fuck did you partisan hacks vote for him?

gee, the Nelson seat should be a great way to gauge the validity of YOUR wherewithal ..

~ any generic Dem ought to breeze to an easy win riding Obama's coat-tails ..
Dem lib-policies, terrorist double-taps, goosing grandma at the airports, and smuggling arms to Mexi-drug dealers to kill La-Razas ..

.. we'll keep an eye on it 4 ya

With Democrats like that, who needs Republicans?

The rats are leaving the ship!

What no dancing Banana's?

So another 70 year old multi millionaire retires..Sounds like he won...
Good for him!

Yea, god forbid we get someone who votes the way the state people want them to, to keep overbearing policies conceived in California from infecting another state..

"Obama has made this bridging of partisan divisions the touchstone of his campaign.

As long as you go along with HIS plan. God forbid someone thinks for themselves and disagree's with his liberal viewpoints.

I agree, it was a huge mistake letting voters elect their senators.

Ben Nelson is the best Democrat in the Republican Party. Good riddance.

Exactly, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out Ben.

After Dead Drunk Kennedy died Nelson almost single-handedly saved Obamacare by stepping forward to accept the $100 million exemption bribe on behalf of the people of Nebraska and this is the thanks he gets from you libtards?

I suppose you're not too happy with the folks in Connecticut, Louisiana or all those unions that got bribes, er, exemptions either?

Sucks to be exposed as hacks on the national level.

And there's this beauty from Danni's book 'Spouting Talking Points: From Both Sides of My Mouth.' Biggest hypocrite on the DR.

"We give Legislators plenty of power, they don't need to be deciding who sits in the US Senate with a virtual veto power over any law or appointment."" Danni

Like it's not that way now by letting the people elect the senators?? lol

Another scumbag democrat bites the dust.

Blue Dog Senator Nelson's retirement will be no loss for the Democrats. This man did a lot of damage to the President's programs by siding with Republicans on critical votes on war, banking, and healthcare. Good riddance!

Dems should chase all the blue dogs out of their stupid party just like they did with the yellow dogs and eventually they will be down to their socialist base, Bewnie Swandews.

The beauty of all this is that Mau-Mau's health care bill has exterminated far more democrat shit than it has the elderly it was designed to kill.

It gave the good guys the house in 2010.

Its probably gonna give us the Senate.

We'll run agin it in 2012 and win the Executive Branch.

I love it.

JAK's crystal ball is very clear tonight.

Perhaps she should have put it into a limerick? DUDE, the Righties dubbed him "messiah" - understand? Democrats have never been able to operate independently of Republicans - even with majorities in both houses and a Democrat President. Now, why is that?

the Cornhusker Kickback

Yeah, about that.

Nelson, DINO that he is, only voted for the original ACA due to the obvious bribe of the kickback. The final version stripped that kickback out and Nelson voted against it.

This asshole kept whoring his 59th Senate out so blatantly he doesn't have a political friend in the world at this point but why the fuck should he care? Dude's like 70 and loaded. Hopefully the door does hit him in the ass on the way out.

Be Well.
